R2 DBZ Movies Covers

Post by SatoSky » Mon Jun 30, 2008 6:11 am

Image Image

Couldn't think of a better title for the topic, meh... Anyway, as posted on the Daizex main page and Kanzentai those are the two covers for the R2 individual releases of the DBZ movies. Pretty sexay, no? My favorite is the cover for movie 2, movie 1's just seems kinda generic.

Anyone planning to grab these? I want scans to go along with my custom subbed DVD's from the original Dragon Box release.

I agree with you on the first one.

I like the second image, but its kinda misleading, it makes it look like Piccolo is the villain of movie 2.

I'll only get DB movie 1 really, It's the only DVD movie I'm missing uncut.

Maybe to someone who hasn't seen the movie before, you're right. However, coming from the angle of "Oh! Cool! That was one of my favorite Dragonball movies!" it just looks like a recreation of a cool fight from the movie.

EDIT: Oh, and the first cover just immediately reminded me of when Son Goku finished off Garlic Jr.'s henchmen with the Kamehameha in that movie. So, not generic on my part.

Compared to the original covers of the films, these aren't anything special to be honest. The artwork is superb however.

I couldn't agree more. I wish they'd make these covers look like new poster art, instead of a pin-up of a character or two.

I agree with this, too.

Woulda liked to see the movie villains on the covers, but these covers are fine, I guess (really, how many times have we seen Goku fire a kamehameha?).
Also pretty interesting that the first movie simply goes by "Dragon Ball Z."

Was something mentioned as to what kind of "Bonus Prize" people would get for buying the movie singles? The DBZ singles had those Karin Tower figures, so I'm hoping these releases get something nice, too (even though I won't be picking them up).

I absolutely love the covers.

The first one is kinda perfect for Goku in the movie, because he's still pretty young in it, like end-of Dragonball young.

The second one is really good. Even though it makes Piccolo the bad guy, but if you've seen the movie, you'd know that he's only like that for a short time, then gets back to his senses.
Next quest: Start collecting Dragon Ball Super Blu-Rays whenever season sets get released. Also the Super Manga!

Fan of Dragon Ball Z and various other Anime since '98! ^^

I love Movie 2´s cover. But the first one is just... Haven´t we seen that before a million times? Why not throw in some Garlic Jr, or raging Gohan?

I'm glad they changed them from those generic placeholders.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Only, you know, the Goku in movie 1 is basically that without super saiyan.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Goku's hair in the DBZ movie 1 cover is the only thing that bugs me. :?

Why doesn't the first one have a title?

The original theatrical title for DBZ Movie 1 was just Dragon Ball Z. It was later changed to Return My Gohan for the VHS/Laser Disc release. Same thing with DB Movie 1; which was later renamed to Legend of Shenlong.

That's a pretty sexy cover. Thankfully they didn't make some boring cover with Dr. Uiro or something.

Uiro's brain in the glass case would have been pretty awesome, maybe as an inside picture. They should have the baddies drawn on there somewhere, on the inside is good enough.

I think displaying the bad guys as well would give the covers a better appearance, I hope they all don't focus on Goku, even though it is his show. :?

You and me both. VERY sexy! :D

I'm definitely planning to get Toei's release of DB movie 1, here's hoping its cover-art is on par to these.

Of course, I'm absolutely in love with the second cover. I wanna buy this just to have that gorgeous thing on my shelf.

I want to get the singles of my three favorite movies- Dead Zone, World's Strongest and Sluggu. It'll be great to see more of these covers.
