Anyone listen to the audio commentary on episode 1? Good stuff, just Mike McFarland (ADR Director and Buggy the Clown), Colleen Clinkenbeard (Luffy) and Chris Sabat (Zoro) talking about how great One Piece is and they talk about Dragon Ball Z quite a bit, like Chris Sabat says people were afraid he'll play Zoro like Piccolo or Vegeta, and then McFarland just says as Vegeta "I am the prince of all swordsmen!".
There is ONE thing that this release doesn't have that Dragonball Z has, Alternating Angels to show Japanese credits and titles. I understand the discs had almost no space, but they could have used three disks for 13 episodes and then had alternating angels for the Japanese titles and credits.
And they're not really coming out that fast, they should concentrate on the DVDs.

I doubt it will ever come out in England, so I had to get the US ones, I would have waited and gotten the Australian PAL ones if I knew that was coming out.Captain Awesome wrote:I'm hoping to pick up my copy of the Alabasta movie tomorrow, as it has only just come out here, we're still waiting on the episodes.

Oh well, earlier is better, I could always get an NTSC Television in the future and watch my R1, Japanese R2 and R3 stuff on there.

I get a PAL version if I can get one, half my DBZ collection is NTSC singles, because the PAL singles don't have a Japanese language track. The Time Traveller wrote: I doubt it will ever come out in England, so I had to get the US ones, I would have waited and gotten the Australian PAL ones if I knew that was coming out.![]()
Can't your tv do NTSC?, I've got just a regular TV, and my dvd player lets me select PAL, PAL 60 or NTSC, if I'm watching a NTSC dvd, I choose PAL 60, because it runs everything at the correct framerate and resolution of an NTSC dvd, but stops the saturated colours from bleeding too much.

No it cannot, It's an old piece of shit. Plus one of the corners of the screen messes up the colours. I'll look out for one that changes between PAL and NTSC though, I didn't know any of them do that.Captain Awesome wrote:I get a PAL version if I can get one, half my DBZ collection is NTSC singles, because the PAL singles don't have a Japanese language track. The Time Traveller wrote: I doubt it will ever come out in England, so I had to get the US ones, I would have waited and gotten the Australian PAL ones if I knew that was coming out.![]()

Most modern Tv's can switch between 50/60hz, my tv itself doesn't have an option to do so, it just displays whatever signal gets thrown at it.The Time Traveller wrote: No it cannot, It's an old piece of shit. I use my region free dvd player to choose what I want to output at.

To tell you the truth I really couldn't care less about the no alternating angle option or the Japanese text in the intros and endings in this boxset, usually since I only watch them once and skip stright to the episode. The Time Traveller wrote:There is ONE thing that this release doesn't have that Dragonball Z has, Alternating Angels to show Japanese credits and titles. All I'm glad for is that we actually didn't get the short end of the stick from Toei and actually GOT their One Piece masters this time which is a great step from how peeved off I was finding out Toei didn't give us their actual masters for the Dragonball series.
I had a few One Piece fansubs and compared the quality and the difference is amazing, if you've seen some OP Uncut clips posted on youtube and compare them with the fansub version you'll know what I mean. The colours and everything is just gorgeous ^W^

Well, some people like having the japanese credits. I know, being that I'm one of them. Though, as I've said many times before, it's not the credits that bother me; it's the edited logo. Even 4Kids kept the original intact, or at least almost. (They removed the "wanpisu"-kana on top of it.) Now, I don't think FUNi's logo looks BAD or anything, it's just a completely redundant edit, and looking at the 4th opening in the TV-broadcast, I really hope they'll fix that for the DVDs. (The japanese version had the logo floating in midair while they show a 3D-shot of the Going Merry from behind, sailing into the distance, whereas the dub just replaced this with random stock-footage of the ship. It sort of ruined the look of that opening.)PrincessVegeta wrote:To tell you the truth I really couldn't care less about the no alternating angle option or the Japanese text in the intros and endings in this boxset, usually since I only watch them once and skip stright to the episode. The Time Traveller wrote:There is ONE thing that this release doesn't have that Dragonball Z has, Alternating Angels to show Japanese credits and titles. Proof that this is not the case: There is a small black "border" on the edge of the screen, which is only noticable if you watch it on a PC or a TV without any overscan... The FUNi-logo actually goes slightly outside this border when it comes into the frame. And anyway, I don't see ANY reason why Toei would do that. It's just pointless.JulieYBM wrote:The gold logo may be something TOEI gives them and edits it into the footage.
And as for doing it to distingush themselves from 4Kids... Well, they didn't have to use it IN the actual episodes... The japanese never had a problem using a different logo on the case instead of what was actually in the show. (See the new Dragonball-DVDs, or heck, FUNi's Dragonball-DVDs for that matter.)
Well, to get back on the main post, I'm watching my One Piece set I just bought yesterday. Anybody can tell you that Funimation put more effort into the One Piece set. DBZ kinda sells itself, so no need to do anything extra.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

DBZ prints money, but FUNi can't seem to afford to do something that makes more people happy with it.Raki wrote:Well, to get back on the main post, I'm watching my One Piece set I just bought yesterday.
