Re: New Sand Land project announced
I did not know it until this post.
I think it is nice that toriyama gets recognized by something other than DB (it is what he would have wanted).
Not a video game player, but it sounds cool and I wish it success.

Re: New Sand Land project announced
After reading it for the first time, I hope the anime gets the opportunity to expand from the original work. Nothing crazy, just some backstory, character interactions, etc., just things that would hopefully flesh out Sand Land better.
As for the animation, knowing that the Jojo/Batman Ninja studio will be involved in some way is getting me excited, since I really liked their work from those alone. Although I'm not so sure on what Sunrise will bring into the table beyond distribution or initial concepts, though. But anyways, hoping this will turn out good.
At least I now have 3 anime to look forward for this year, so that's cool.

At least in Japan he was already famous for Dr. Slump.Saiya6Cit wrote: Tue Dec 20, 2022 1:08 pm

Confirmed to be a movie. Sunrise, Kamikaze Douga, and Anima are producing the animation.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

I like the latest Sand Land interview with Toriyama. It’s nice to hear him act less damnably modest about the quality of his own work for a change and actually say “yeah, I’m really proud of making this, it’s incredible work”.
Re: New Sand Land project announced
Do you think that somehow they will connect this movie to the DB franchise in order to attract more people to the movie theaters?
Re: New Sand Land project announced
Without Toei Animation being involved I kind of have to doubt that a full-on genuine connection will be made. I'm kind of curious as to whether or not the Darbra-esque design will be retained or changed.TheRed259 wrote: Thu Mar 30, 2023 8:11 pm Do you think that somehow they will connect this movie to the DB franchise in order to attract more people to the movie theaters?

They will probably will use Toriyama's name for marketing and that's about it.TheRed259 wrote: Thu Mar 30, 2023 8:11 pm Do you think that somehow they will connect this movie to the DB franchise in order to attract more people to the movie theaters?

What are you saying? Resources could've gone to super? Eh, no.YMK_8000 wrote: Sat Dec 17, 2022 2:06 ambatistabus wrote: Fri Dec 16, 2022 8:31 pm Sand Land "will be animated in 2023"

Looks pretty good! Maybe not as polished as Super Hero, but still good.
I don’t understand only devout Toriyama fans read this series why waste resources on this which could’ve going to Super. I heard the story was typical early 2000s Toriyama crap post Dragonball.

Doubt it, but I would like it. Didn't even need to be Universe 7.TheRed259 wrote: Thu Mar 30, 2023 8:11 pm Do you think that somehow they will connect this movie to the DB franchise in order to attract more people to the movie theaters?
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Re: New Sand Land project announced
Love it! I also like that they are true to the source material and it looks exactly, how Toriyama drew it back then!
In contrast to recent Dragon Ball, which is a mish mash of Toriyama's art style at the end of Z, mixed with Yamamuro with new Toriyama designs somehow adapted back in and it's weird at times.
And also, Sunrise! That is a top notch anime studio... Some of TOEI works from the 90s looked dated already in comparison to Z Gundam from mid 80s.

Damn I just learned about this now. I guess Toriyama is gonna have a third manga of his getting an anime adaptation now! Although I haven't read Sand Land, the trailer makes it look okay so far...

Re: New Sand Land project announced
Not sure about DB connections, but based on Sunrise's track record, it will be one of the best adapted works from Toriyama visual and animation wise

The absence of Toei Animation is a good sign.
