God is this thread tailor made for ME! And yes it should. Not just on Toonami which is on its last gasp but some sort of Broadcast Diginet aimed at a nostalgic crowd. Those are actually growing and their viewers increase by the year, and there is plenty of viewers who want to watch fun stuff with their kids but have no choice but to watch Police Procedurals with them. DBZ is such a huge show that the one channel to get it will own all the others and that would be awesome to see agai.
I agree that a TV airing is nice and all, but at the same time, companies need to adapt. If they can do both, great. But if they find that airing a new Dragon Ball series on a streaming service is what's best for it, then I would understand. I think I read an article a while back that confirmed that most people don't even use cable anymore. It's pretty much a thing of the past for people with streaming as an option.
The only thing is and I think you mentioned this, is that new Dragon Ball episodes airing exclusively on a Crunchyroll streaming service might not do too well with the average viewer. The only way it would work is if Crunchyroll made a deal with Netflix or something to air the new series. But I wouldn't really want that because that would mean Netflix wouldn't allow home releases of the new series and I'm always an advocate of physical media being an option.
Also, Adult Swim recently gained an hour on Cartoon Network, now starting on 7pm in the U.S. I feel like that'd be perfect whenever a new Dragon Ball series comes because now they have the option to air it earlier before their original Rick and Morty-type programming starts. In the past, I wanted Dragon Ball to air on Disney XD, but I haven't watched that channel in years and I feel like most kids just watch streaming or YouTube nowadays.
Because of this, Dragon Ball should stick with Adult Swim, whose viewership is older audiences who grew up watching Dragon Ball on television and are more likely to continue doing so. Also, it would air uncut, which would entice even more viewers to check it out. So yeah, as of now, I don't think Dragon Ball should air on a kids channel, but if they somehow announced it's airing on Nick or Disney, I wouldn't be opposed to it and would actually check it out and hope a new generation of fans discover it. Once again, I genuinely feel that Super should've aired on Disney XD in addition to Adult Swim back in 2017. It would've increased its appeal beyond just the older fans, especially because Super is a little softer on violence than Z was. So, who knows what will happen with a new series?
