I think that Kanzenshuu has managed to avoid bigots because the administrative team did an excellent job weeding those things out from the site. However, I've seen some horrendous things from Dragon Ball fans in other forums. While most of the time, the culprits seem to be trolling and trying to get a laugh, it really is disgusting. I expect such things from children/teens, but I've seen those kinds of people around for so many years that I wonder if they aren't adults yet.

Of course there's racism in the fandom because racism is a human trait. We just don't see it in places like Kanzenshuu, which are governed by good people.

Wow, this has gone off the rails.

Just a reminder to everyone posting in this thread: you are not your mental illness(es). Your social shortcomings aren't your autism/ADHD/BPD/etc, they're you. The sooner folks realise they have some actual control over their actions, the better.

While there is racism everywhere dbz is one of probably the two most racially diverse fandoms(Naruto being the other). So by and large thankfully ours isn't too bad. That said when certain people go out of their way to gate keep what language a children's cartoons should be watched in. What gender or gender presenting voices a children's cartoon should have. Trying to start harassment campaigns against voice actors or composers... Its blatantly clear they are no where near mentally sound so other abhorrent takes from them isn't surprising.

FYI, Autism isn't a mental illness. Also nobody used it as an excuse in this thread moreso it's a justification. People on the spectrum and/or have ADHD do control they actions. However due to development issues or mental issues it can make it extra challenging which causes the social shortcomings. This isn't directed to you. There is a lot of misinformation, sterotypes, and stigma towards people on the spectrum or mental disorder. To tie it back to the main topic, when you add the intersectionality of race, gender, and so much more it becomes a different experience for everyone who has a neurological disorder.

I agree with the OP but I don't think this is exclusive to the Dragon Ball community but the wider online English-speaking anime community.

Back in 2020 I did a social experiment on Funimation's discord server's "meme channel" where all I did for one day was post things an African American friend of mine told me were typical "hood memes". All it took was posting three of these memes to get me banned... Then we decided to go to a Latin American DB discord server and posted the same memes and they all enjoyed the memes.

It kinda proved our hypothesis that the English-speaking anime community is largely made up of people who are out of touch with what ethnic minorities enjoy. The Latin American DB community was more accepting of black meme culture than the North American anime community. I won't post the memes here since I don't know where Kanzenshuu lies in the spectrum of hood meme acceptance--between Latin American on one end and North American on the other--but yeah did get a little "racism" vibes from Funimation discord mods.

It is what it is, I'm not tryna get Funi's discord mods cancelled or anything. Me and my black friends just spend most of our time now with the Latin American Dragon Ball fans and been quite an enjoyable 3 years.

Butthurt latinos? For liking the original score  :lolno:

Racism? In the fandom? It is not cause it is the fandom, it is just people being people. You wanna talk about racism with me? I have brown skin and look hispanic-latino. Some white people are racist, some others have relatives married to hispanic latinos or they have cool neighbors and that is how they realize we are not bad people. Racism is ignorance. I can't get angry or bothered with an ignorant, I feel pity for those.

Disliking someone's race is ilogical as a person can't chose their DNA. However each person can chose about their behavior. It's a voluntary decision.
Racism will continue to happen. Sometimes it is cultural or even unconscious.

I never thought to myself that there is racism in the fandom cause I have never been attacked by anyone in the DB fandom only cause I am mexican.
we all should (if we can) be more compassionate, we all should try to understand others, have empathy, educate ourselves, learn from others, from our mistakes, from our experiences, we all should be against evil, in short "we all should do our best to become a better person". We don't have to love everyone, but we all should respect each other and be kind to each other (in general) I know that in some cases this is not how it works. Anyone who defends good should at least share it with the others to spread this positivity all around the world, I guess that's the easiest thing people can offer with internet. We can't obtain anything by force sooo patience is the key to spread positivity (imho).
Amen.

I take it that interview is fake, right? Because someone posted it, but I just couldn't find it anywhere. Does it carry legitimacy or is it plain fake?

Weirdo alt-right dipshits made up a fake screnshot to justify keeping their head in the sand. They thrive off misinformation

The latter, it reeks of "Source: Made it up" (but that's a lot of things in a fandom and franchise like this one).
A good rule of thumb is if you can't find it in its original language by an accurate source, it's not to be trusted.

The fact that this has an article on Snopes really is... something.

I've not personally witnessed racism happening in places of Dragon Ball discourse, but that's only my personal experience and also has to do with the places I choose to engage. There's not racism on Kanzenshuu (to my knowledge) but a Dragon Ball fan who talks about DB on 4chan may have an entirely different experience.

To be fair, this article IS pointing out its fucking made up bullshit. Finally there's Sanity. True, in Kanzenshuu this wouldnt even be entertained but still.
