No stronger than he actually was in the main story. The game might initially make it seem like Bardock could've done better if he had simply tried harder and/or had more time, but even it makes the situation clear that Freeza was just toying around and would still end things not long after. Unfortunately for Bardock, not even video game logic was going to allow him to live that day.
