Looking for a theme song...

Post by jjgp1112 » Sat Jul 05, 2008 1:44 pm

I was recently watching DBZ episode 120 and was captivated by the awesomeness that is the japanese Trunks SSJ transformation theme song. Does anyone know if there's a full version, and where could I find it?

The theme that's playing here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=4_uPWdqVtxE
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

As far as I know I don't think the song was released on any CD's but I could be (and probably am) wrong.

On a semi-related note I really liked how they handled this scene in the anime. I haven't seen it up until now and I think they added a very confident feeling behind Trunks's transformation.
Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

The song is called "Battle Point Unlimited" (romanized from the written kana as "BP∞ Batoru Pointo Anrimiteddo"), as performed/composed/whatever by "Monolith". It is played at two points during DBZ episode 120 (once when Trunks first transforms into an SSJ, and then again at the end and into the closing of the episode).

It's one of those unfortunate pieces that has only ever appeared once on CD in Japan. The only place you'll find it is on DBZ Hit Song Collection 6, aptly titled Battle Point Unlimited. The CD starts out with an overture version of the song (pretty much just a short/intro version of it), and then the full-length version appears later on the disc as track seven.

It has not been re-packaged with any single- or multi-disc music collections in Japan. None of us really know what the reason is. The same thing happened with some of the other instrumental pieces by Monolith (such as those on Hit 7).

HOWEVER...

All of the Hit Song Collection CDs were re-released at budget prices back in 2006. You can pick it up on places like CDJapan and Play-Asia for around $12-13. They were re-released under the "ANIMEX" label, with this one having the catalogue number of COCX-33913 (as opposed to the original's COCX-7319). Regardless, easy to pick up if you want it.

Ah, so this is why I've seen the song called "Battle Point Infinity."

You'll also typically see "Battle Power Infinity", which was the most common non-reading-of-the-Japanese-text-right-next-to-it for many years.
