YTV to have one-day return of Dragonball

Post by Dayspring » Fri Jul 04, 2008 5:29 pm

As part of the 20th Anniversary of YTV, the week of August 11-17 will air retro shows such as like Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, Hitlist and Antigravity Room.

On Friday, August 15 at 8pm (EST), YTV will be re-airing an episode of Dragonball. Most likely the 1st episode. Just a heads up to my fellow YTVers.

Blue Water dub? PLEASE be the Blue Water dub.
Can someone capture it? I think that, due to its occasional edits and different audio, it would be legal to post.

Holy shit; Hit List! (lol) Rocko's Modern Life...I remember the intro song so distinctly, but I have no recollection on what went on in the cartoon XD. I'm totally gonna catch a few of these airings. *Cue nostalgia overload..

Don't they show DragonBall Z once a week or something?

Hmm, the old 1995 dub playing again, sounds interesting, too bad I don't live in Canada. But on Cartoon Network in Australia and New Zealand, they're playing Dragonball Z from 001 till 276 every weekday at 1:30pm. Also they play the old Ocean dub episodes too, I still don't get why they haven't aired the first 67 uncut episodes yet here. They play the first 53 ocean episodes and then they go to FUNimations dub.

Wait, are you sure it's the old '95 dub? D: so much for my hopes of seeing a high quality cap of the Blue Water dub.

Here is the Corus Press Release which only mentions a single episode being aired, nothing more.

In my opinion, an episode of the original 1994-1995 BLT Production/FUNimation Dub of Dragon Ball would make a lot more sense than airing a Blue Water episode which was last aired in 2005.
YTV Bloomed in the 90's, and Dragon Ball first showed up on YTV in 1995 so that is what I would expect.

1995 Dub I would prefer over the horribly voiced Blue Water garbage.

I still have my capture of the original Blue Water Episode 1 Broadcast from it's September 2003 Broadcast premiere, waste of a CD-R if you ask me.

I totally forgot about that dub when I first read this topic. That would definitely be interesting to see again, though I wonder what the chances of that happening really are.

If you want a SUPER nostalgic feeling from Cartoon Network, then you should order Boomerang. There's nothing more nostalgic than that channel. They should put DBZ on there... Since apparently they have The Batman and it's relatively new. They have shows like Flinstones, Jetsons, Looney Toons, things like that. And not just for one week.

Anyway, showing one episode isn't cool. They should run a marathon on those shows.

Hey all,
Sounds great, I used to love the Antigravity Room. Phil, he was the best host on YTV next to Sugar.

YTV should also put Daria on that list of shows...oh well.

I'm sort of Necro-Posting, don't set the ban hammer on me!

The schedule changed, the shows aired on Saturday instead of Friday, and it actually was episode 1 of DragonBall Z. It was the old Saban-Era Ocean Dub, it even aired with the whole "Make Way For DragonBall Z Coming Up Next" bit.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

I caught it right before I had to leave for work. The little tidbit with the kids hoppin around shouting " stay tuned for Dragonball Z coming up next! " looks so damn retro now; I feel old.

I would love it if Toonami in the U.S. did this for a day.
(A weekday too, not Saturday).

I want people to see what Toonami looked like in its heyday and I want to recall the nostalgia.

Though I'm betting they no longer have a hold on some of those old shows (contracts run out), even if they wanted to, huh? :(

If that happened I might have an orgasm  Well maybe not, but it would make me really happy to relive a huge part of my childhood like that.
