Goten has an awesome design, even though it's a copy of Goku, the fact that he wears long sleeves makes him look stylish (and it's even more cool-looking in the manga, where the long sleeves are black instead). Trunks also sports a nice visual, it's simple but effective. And he also has purple/lilac hair, which is what all Trunkses should have, it's just too bad that when he finally grew up to a teenager, he "dyed" his hair blue, but there's still "end of Z", where his hair is still purple/lilac, so there's still hope! Speaking of teenager, both Goten and Trunks designs at that period from the movie Dragon Ball Super Super Hero is marvelous. Goten finally changed his hairdo so that he becomes more unique. Trunks clothes is also very pleasing to see. Toriyama was really on board on creating something different, yet cool for Goten and Trunks, which is telling considering how questionable Toriyama is when it comes to designs of the characters for the series.
Their interaction with one another is also a very strong point of their relationship. It is not a copy of Goku and Vegeta's relationship, you can easily tell Goten and Trunks are very, very good friends, a friendship that transcends even time and space, as we see Xeno Goten and Xeno Trunks doing pretty well together! It's always a pleasure to see them together and doing things together and fighting together. Their chemistry on-screen is only rivaled by their great charisma they have together (or even separately, to be honest). Trunks' strong willed and Goten's naivety clash really well too, moreso when they were kids.
I do believe that, besides Uub and Pan, Goten and Trunks are the best candidates to take on the main role going forward. Despite the severe lack of screentime they got in recent years, I think there's still time to develop them more. It is kind of sad that the only place they manage to get something worthwhile is in video games, especially Dragon Ball Heroes. In fact, Dragon Ball Heroes Ultimate Mission X for Nintendo 3DS, a Japanese game that unfortunately didn't receive a localization, is still the best place for those wanting to see Goten in action without being overshadowed by Trunks. Hopefully all that changes in a near future. I want them to shine in the games, yes, but I also want them to shine in the series as well. Movie 11, despite being one of the works that represent the worst of this franchise, is also a good movie for Goten and Trunks and their fans. A truly testament that they can work in front lead. Also, Dimps please give Xeno Goten the Super Saiyan 2 and Super Saiyan 3 transformations already. Ultimate is not enough.
