Well, it almost did for Super Saiyan 3 as we see early designs. At some point there was an intention to do something like that, at the very least.Caulifor wrote: Tue Sep 26, 2023 9:12 amToriyama dropped the Oozaru concept early on and then created the Super Saiyan, which had no connection to the Oozaru or the tail of the Saiyans at all. I forgot to mention in general, in that previous conversation I wasn't speaking in either a sense of this being somehow "unique" to Dragon Ball (this is far from the case), because it's a similar deal in other long-running series like Saint Seiya, Naruto/Shippuden, One Piece, etc, nor in a manner that implied that a certain other section of official works are somehow less important or anything like that.Grimlock wrote: Fri Sep 08, 2023 1:58 pm Either four Dragon Ball movies and fifteen Dragon Ball Z movies, or you count them all up in sequence. Though I'd particularly have a hard time figuring out what you're talking about if you say, like, "Movie 18". My mindset separate them, so I have no idea what that is supposed to mean.
In fact, most things I may mention aren't even as they relate to the DB franchise in particular.
In other words, I'm not really a participant in most of these intra-fanbase discussions.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
A video game related point, but I really don’t like how both Android #18 and Videl are so prominently supported by #17 and Gohan respectively in DB FighterZ. On top of it not being a good look for two of the most significant female warriors in the series having to be propped up by stronger male allies, I don’t like how their movesets completely hinge on tag attacks from their partners, and they don’t get any intro/win screens to themselves as a result. If they made brief cameos in super moves, it wouldn’t be so bad. I give Ginyu a pass because you naturally expect the rest of the Tokusentai to get involved and he doesn’t have the biggest pool of moves to draw from, individually.

The fact that Vegeta appears without bangs for the first time can only lead me to think he was indeed designed by Toriyama. Why would Toei not put bangs in the movie, but would do so in the retelling?Luso Saiyan wrote: Fri Oct 13, 2023 1:51 pmYou mean 'Battle of Gods'? Toriyama didn't design King Vegeta for that movie though (or young Vegeta for that matter)
(On a related note: why would Toei mention Tarble in the movie, but not in the retelling? I think both of these elements are from Toriyama).

Really? Bangs? You automatically exclude oversights or stylistic choices in such minutae and go right to "designed by Toriyama" because of that?Grimlock wrote: Fri Oct 13, 2023 3:21 pmThe fact that Vegeta appears without bangs for the first time can only lead me to think he was indeed designed by Toriyama.
Well, fortunately we do have all of his designs for Battle of Gods (and Resurrection 'F' too), and both King and Prince Vegeta aren't part of those.

I'm not excluding anything, I'm just saying what I think.
Yep, we have designs for all the main characters of the movie. Not for every character that appears in the movie. There certainly have additional material and/or information we don't know about.

So I learned that there are two words for "Multiverse": "多元宇宙" (Tagen'uchū) and "マルチバース" (maruchibāsu).
Has anyone seen this in Dragon Ball? I will start looking in Xenoverse, but I don't think that's there.

I tried to check Dragon Super episode on Crunchyroll, but I noticed that only episode 1-25 are free, while episode 26-131 requires a premium account. When did this change? I remember I could watch any episode, after every episode was released.
When DBS Anime was new the previous episode was available for free, while the latest episode that came out new required a premium account.

Well, I've discovered something that's pretty infuriating.
A few years ago, digitized my entire physical media collection, including the 30th anniversary Blu-ray set. However, the way I digitized that 30th anniversary set doubt preserve some things that I just recently noticed. So, I decided to redo the process using MakeMKV.
And there are some episodes that just refuse to copy. They don't even transfer using my old method. I thought it was my laptop or my disc drive. Decided to test the disc--put it into my PS5 and that episode froze up!
So, angrily, I skipped it and the next disc did the same thing.
I don't know what happened. I got the set, digitized it--mind you, everything worked back then--and then just put it away untouched for years. How could the discs get damaged just sitting there? And now what do I do? Only thing I can think of is sailing the seas for the missing video and hope that the quality wasn't compromised. And no, I'm not rebuying this thing just for that--that would be idiotic.

I have a lot of physical media and a handful have similar issues. I'm scared bc through no fault of my own, my discs can develop problems and quite a few of them aren't in circulation anymore. If my copy of the Dragon Boxes, the DB saga sets, or Kevin Smith's Dogma have any issues, I'm SOL.TheGreatness25 wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 7:32 am Well, I've discovered something that's pretty infuriating.

That's crazy. You spend a bunch of money on something that just craps out for no reason? I've honestly never had this happen to me, where a previously-working disc just stops working without being used.ABED wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 7:45 pmI have a lot of physical media and a handful have similar issues. I wonder could it be possible some files on the disc are protect? Maybe it requires bypassing some protection on it, that is preventing it from copying.TheGreatness25 wrote: Thu Oct 19, 2023 7:32 am Well, I've discovered something that's pretty infuriating.

If the disc is scratched, isn't it possible to take the disc to a shop to remove the scratch? Assuming that is the problem.
If it is disc rot then I have no idea. I doubt there is anything to fix it.

I've got hundreds of DVDs and Blu-Rays too, and rarely have issues. My copy of Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz doesn't play for some reason, despite never being used, I'm still waiting for Anime Limited to issue me a replacement. I've never experienced disc rot, and from what I've heard it is exceptionally rare and unlikely to affect the vast majority of discs within our lifetime.
I can't see myself digitizing my entire collection, it would end up costing far too much for all those extra hard drives or cloud storage to save them all (both of which are less reliable than discs).
Streaming services are a great backup for mainstream titles that are unlikely to be edited by studios, but it would suck for rarities like the Z Pioneer movie trilogy, Kai with Yamamoto, the unaltered versions of Star Wars and all the special features my various discs have.

That's the thing: originally, I digitized the disc by breaking the encryption and just copying and pasting onto an external. No problem. But, while this worked amazingly for DVDs, the Blu-rays lost chapter data, etc. And now that I tried to use MakeMKV, it just doesn't allow me to digitize some episodes. I even tried to redo the original process (and would use MKVToolNix from the 16:9 sets to add in the chapters, alternate language, whatever), but it didn't work. And then, the ultimate test, these episodes didn't play on my PS5.super michael wrote: Fri Oct 20, 2023 8:37 amI wonder could it be possible some files on the disc are protect? There is no physical damage to the discs at all. They literally got unpackaged, put into Blu-ray drive one time to digitize, put in storage up until a month or so ago, when I tried to do it again. Basically, for all intents and purposes, the disc was taken out of its holder for the second time ever when it didn't work.
Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
Does anyone else think it would have been cooler if Gogeta transformed into SSG in DBS Broly, instead of going Blue? SSG Fusion should be enough to defeat Broly all the same without overkilling it. Not to mention, it would allow both forms to shine as we'd still have SSB Vegetto, while Gogeta would have the red form to himself.
I feel that having both Fusions at SSB is too repetitive.

This concept is pretty cool and I also think it could serve as a final form, but that could be its predecessor:ZeroNeonix wrote: Sun Sep 24, 2023 9:34 pm The body hair would be fine if it wasn't so much darker.

Re: Non-thread-worthy discussions
So, while doing some more digging through this forum by certain key words (this time being looking in how many places "Captain Harlock" was mentioned), I came upon a topic regarding the lack of main female antagonists in the series, and on the 2nd page of the thread a post mentioning that certain other series in either the 70's or 80's (Captain Harlock, Gundam ZZ, Saint Seiya, etc) didn't have that problem to any similar degree.
Combined with a certain other discussion in the Daima thread, it got me thinking even more about how it's just another baked in problem of the series itself as opposed to different IP's depending on where you look.
And how it's not only Toriyama, but Toei as well that had (and probably still has) this problem. I mean, the Z series had 13 movies in the original run, and the one and only time it featured a female antagonist (Movie 9), it wasn't a main role and she was a complete non-character anyway (she's got less dialogue than Android 13, Hatchihyack and Movie 10 Broli, which is to say nothing at all).
Certain games try to correct this by introducing new, fairly developed (if at all) female antagonist characters, but... they're games.

And it's not even exclusive to Toriyama or Toei but Torishima was never a fan of women being in combat roles either. He was against the very idea of Android 18, thinking Toriyama having women being fought was a sign he should've ended the series earlier. You claim it's not an issue in other series; I can't speak for Captain Harlock or Saint Seiya since I have no experience with those, but in Gundam's case, it's because those female characters are in mechs, so they're not being fought directly. It's kindof a "loophole".GhostEmperorX wrote: Sat Oct 28, 2023 1:20 pm So, while doing some more digging through this forum by certain key words (this time being looking in how many places "Captain Harlock" was mentioned), I came upon a topic regarding the lack of main female antagonists in the series, and on the 2nd page of the thread a post mentioning that certain other series in either the 70's or 80's (Captain Harlock, Gundam ZZ, Saint Seiya, etc) didn't have that problem to any similar degree.

I think with Dragon Ball since so much of the series involves hand-to-hand combat, the image of someone like Goku beating up a woman (or at least an attractive woman) is just not something Japan likes to see, especially from a series aimed at children, and regardless of how evil a female antagonist could be. That's why in the rare instances where there is combat with women, they're treated very differently. They're written into scenarios where the males either can't or won't land hits on them. In the fight between Goku and Chichi, he dodged everything without wanting to hit her and simply blew her out of the ring with a gust of air (granted, he's just respecting Roshi's teachings, but she still didn't need to be so weak). In the fight between 18 and Vegeta, the latter couldn't even land a scratch. And in the fight between Videl and Spopovich, probably the only "real" male vs female fight in the original run, it turned into a horrifying Women In Refrigerators situation that only served to motivate Gohan. 18 didn't even go with the group to fight against Babidi, even though she's way stronger than Krillin is.
This is kind of a core issue with social politics in Japan that have only very, very recently started to shift. It's an issue that stretches far beyond anime.

Toriyama-san pottentially made unintended wordplay when having Kame Sen'nin asked Goku to find him a pichi-pichi gal. This is because pichi-pichi is the name of a Filipino delicacy that is sprinkled withshredded cheese or shredded coconut. I have had the cheese version many times & each time they taste delicious. Anyways here's a video on how to make your own pichi-pichi: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e0SRtoir2vk
