Australian Madman VHSs - Commercials/ Ads
Hi all!
Long-time reader, a first-time poster.
For years now, I've been trying to recall some of the commercials that were played before the three DBZ episodes on the Aussie Madman VHSs from the early 2000s. One I vaguely recall was a montage (with highpaced music) beginning with lightning strikes hitting an island and someone's face melting down to a skeleton. Beyond that, it's some fast-paced editing. I've always been curious as to what anime this might be.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Alternatively, is there a list of these commercials that were played on those Madman VHSs that exists somewhere? I think it might have been during the Name/ Frieza Sagas.
Greatly appreciate any help/ leads on what I might be referring to.

Re: Australian Madman VHSs - Commercials/ Ads
I wish I knew, unless I'm mistaken Madman released Funimation's catalogue in Oceania, probably other series from different distributors in America as they kind of had a monopoly on the Australian and New Zealand animated home video market.
So maybe some other battle shounen that was dubbed in North America around that time would be an indication. Could have been Yu Yu Hakusho.
I'm not an expert on Madman releases but hopefully someone who is can chime in.

Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

I used to have all of the Madman Z VHS volumes for Ginyu till Kid Buu till I sold them to a friend. They typically shared the same set of trailers every few volumes, so that may make it a bit easier to track down. When I was capturing them, I made chapter marks noting each trailer on there, though it's been a long time since I did them, so I don't remember which trailer that was. Assuming it was in those ones and not anything earlier, never seen the Ocean Dub VHS version.
Looked at the chapters for Ginyu up till Garlic Jr and most actually shared the same trailers/ads, so the list is pretty short. If any of these sound familiar.
Other shows/anime:
Pokemon Volumes 1-10
Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040
Slayers the Motion Picture
Macross Plus
Monkey (live action)
Sakura Wars
Street Fighter Alpha: The Movie
DBZ home media related:
Volumes 2.1 - 2.4 (Ginyu and start of Freeza)
Garlic Jr. Saga
Trunks Saga
Android Saga
Other DBZ ads:
DBZ Irwin Action Figures
DBZ Irwin Nimbus Cloud
DBZ Irwin Capsule Corp Diecast
DBZ History of Trunks
DBZ Crazy Bones

Embarrassingly, I recently bought some DBZ VHS' just to solve this question, meanwhile, you've answered it!
Thank you again!
Re: Australian Madman VHSs - Commercials/ Ads
I remember Madman DVDs having the cringiest ad for Budokai where someone overdubbed a Raditz cutsvene with a thick Asian accent saying "Dragonball Z is NOT for wimps!"
