Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

About the commercial song used for the OG DB Junior TV commercial in Italy (circa 1995)

So, while I was scrolling about the Italian dub promos, I came across a VHS rip of a commercial related to OG DB from Junior TV's broadcast (a commercial promoting the action figures), which kinda explained that the Play World Film Italian dub existed since forever. While I was watching it, accompanied by the logo used in the Funimation/BLT dub (for unknown reasons, iirc the commercial was made and broadcasted in 1995 in Italy, around the time when the series picked up a little steam in North America), the song used in the commercial kinda slaps. After that, I was looking up the song, and sadly, there's no evidence that it had a full version. But I did come across an old forum, related to the song used in the commercial but the links are already dead (one of them being deleted because of account termination and one of them being unavailable). But in the comments section of the commercial on YT, someone confirms who made the song, but it's not in their bio on Discogs (which I can say it might be unconfirmed for now).

If the full version of the song exists, it would be great to hear the entirity of the song (even though it was only used for the commercial)

Here's the commercial: https://youtube.com/watch?v=0yFRBozAfDw

Native Italian here, the premise is that I never watched Dragon Ball on Junior TV (in fact, I only recently found out that it even aired on that channel), so I likewise never heard that commercial, either.

I tried to look into it, with the weapon of being a native speaker in my hands, but I couldn't find anything. Even the "stai con noi" (literally: "stay with us") title isn't official, and it appears to have been given by fans. I wouldn't bet my money on that song being written by Massimo Dorati's "Odeon Boys", either, because there is little to contradictory evidence in that direction.

In short, we don't have an official title, and we don't know the actual composer for sure, which isn't surprising given the nature of the song, most single-use jingles here in Italy are meant to be just that, disposable, especially on niche channel like Junior TV, it's extremely rare for a full (or even official) version to exist at all. In an unrelated interview I just found while digging, Dorati said that he rarely worked on full-fledged versions of his songs (as above, I'm not saying that he actually is the author here, it's just to corroborate that it was common practice here, especially at that time).

It's possible, though highly unlikely, that someone involved still has some kind of recording, but we can't exactly ask Dorati, because he apparently passed away a few years ago, and I wouldn't even know how to start looking for Junior TV's old organization charts, we weren't exactly good at keeping records 30 years ago (we really aren't now, either). I mean, I am, but most Italians just are not.

Let me bring you an even worse, non-DB example: Urusei Yatsura first aired in Italy in 1983 (or 1984, even this isn't certain), and no one even knew who sang the first Italian opening song, until 2020, but it took decades after decades of painstaking investigation work by dozens if not hundreds of fans to reach that conclusion. Furthermore, we might know who sang that now, but a complete recording doesn't exist anyway. And let me stress again that I'm talking about an opening used for several episodes of a somehow big anime, not a one-off promotional jingle (even if said jingle was for a much bigger anime).

We're just bad like that.

I'm also sorry if I made multiple edits, but that's part of not being a native English speaker, too, I had to fix some sentences.

Nice find, and yes I believe Doro TV Merchandising licensed original Dragon Ball in 1989 and the first Italian dub of episodes 1-54 aired on some channels, probably hoping the toy deals would help sales.

Mediaset picked up the show again in 1996 after Star Comics released the manga a year prior and seemingly the series had a lot more success from that point, as all of Dragon Ball (except for Kai) was later dubbed in Italy.

Hope you find the full song, it may be out there, you never know.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula
