Is the plan still to wait for AB Groupe box 2 before swapping out the source footage? This project is actually the main reason I'm eager for them to announce it 😂

I have begun editing a recut of the original Dragon Ball Z. I'll call it the Dragon Ball Z Jartcut because of my username. I'm doing this because to me there is uncertainty if MilkMan ever wants to touch this series again after the hellscape editing Boo Kai was. However if MilkMan is still planning a Z recut or wants me to help with doing it, do get in touch. I managed to cut 5min30sec from episode 4 of DBZ for example and I've done a recut of Fist of the North Star in the past so this isn't anything new for me. That recut got positive feedback but it was like 3 years ago so I think I can do an even better job now with Dragon Ball Z.

Not sure if I can link to a project discord here but it would be nice to gauge interest in this and perhaps I should just make my own thread for this but I just wanted to let you all know that a Z recut is coming even if it's not from milkman. Though again, I am happy to cancel or do teamwork with MilkMan if he declares the Z recut is coming after all.

I have the utmost respect for the original Dragon Ball Recut and Kai Recuts and I will be following the same philosophies as those projects. But don't expect this recut to be as fast as the Kai Recut MilkMan has made. I will try to cut out all the scenes that aren't in the manga just like the Kai recut however by it's nature the original Z is just slower and due to the music not all of it can be unpadded as efficiently.

This is going to be a long journey, isn't it? The stuff we do just to hear the original Kikuchi score.

If I will indeed be the only person at the helm of this this will be sub only, because frankly the original Z dub is unusable.

Don't worry, just like the FOTNS recut I made approx 3 years ago, it will be soft sub. I'll use the SoM merge footage.

If only someone recut the French dub.

@Jarttis, while you are it, can you make your own Dragon Ball Recut with the color corrected footage of SoM ?

Unfortunately I can't realistically do that seeing as I don't have the project files for MilkMan's DB Recut. I will solely focus on the original Z seeing as it hasn't been recut well yet.

I made my own thread for the Jartcut so I'll only answer questions there from now on as to not bloat this thread.

Was just watching some scenes of the Frieza saga on youtube and noticed that there were some parts of the Goku vs full power frieza fight that were cut out. Most notably the part where they crash into the Namekian buildings and Frieza calls Goku a monkey. That would've been cool to see in the recut, was it left out intentionally? Are there any other notable fight scenes that had parts cut out?

Freeza*

And if you read the project description, the goal is to remove as much material that isn't adapted from the manga as possible. There are scenes and shots that may be cool but the project isn't about picking and choosing what parts are "cool".

Been out of the loop for a while now any updates on whether or not milkman will still be working on a recut of the original Dragon Ball Z? His Kai recut is phenomenal but i'd love to see the original anime with all the OP, ED, intertitels, and broadcast audio with all the awful filler cut out. There is another edit of z floating on the net which isn't bad, it has all episodes with the broadcast audio but it's missing all the ED and the episodes are haphazardly edited, like some episodes are 30 mins long and some are like 2 minutes. Thanks ;-)

Yeah, I still plan on doing Z, and also syncing Recut to SoM CC and AB video. I know I sound like a broken record, but the biggest hurdle for me at the moment is my PC. My current setup just doesn't have what it takes anymore and I'm in desperate need of an upgrade. I thought I was in a position to do so just a couple months ago, but life happens and now I'm back to square one. But it's a priority, so I'll make it happen within the coming months, and then work should go quickly. Sorry for making y'all wait.

How about asking for donations for a PC?

Is there specific hardware you need? I'd pitch in if need be.

Speaking of new footage coming out, did you see folks now finally color corrected and improved upon Kai Final Chapters' footage/audio?
Not that I have any need to see it on your fanedit, but I was wondering if you heard about it.

Oh wow, I appreciate the offers, but I still don't feel comfortable asking for donations. Thanks though, I promise I'll make this happen as soon as I'm able.

I just want to say thank you for this! I finished watching Dragon Ball Recut, and it is now the only way I'll watch the original. I'm almost done with the Freeza saga on your recut of Kai and am enjoying it immensely! Your work has inspired me to work on my own edit of Kai, attempting to replace all of the redrawn scenes. Great work on everything!

Well... I should really check out these projects. Skimming the thread, apparently people took issue with continuity of character placement inside Buu? For me it's a non issue, the Buu arc of Kai already fucks up by having Goku grab a fat Buu who is flying from a kick they cut out, and after Vegeta's "number one" speech, Goku's shirt gets torn, then is untorn at the very end due to them not caring or paying attention.

Oh.. the bit of Buu vs. Base Vegetto was kept in Goku's flashbacks to Buu before he finished him off was kept, despite that being removed: Image

Due to this project being so inspiring, as soon as the people who've been doing the color correcting of the DBox masters of the first 3 shows, I'm thinking of starting back up my project of recutting the DBox masters to the Kai English dub. I started doing that 8 years ago because I hated how Kai TFC was cropped to 16:9, but pretty quickly stopped because I wasn't in a place where I wanted to continue it. Plus, I hated how the colors in the DBox footage were so badly warped & I think having color corrected DBox footage would be so much better to have for a recut than the FUNi 4:3 Blu-Rays, which still have bad color correction, horrible DVNR smearing away fine details, & fake grain to replace the real grain from the raw film footage they have that they scrubbed away as best they could despite the people they were trying to market the 30th anniversary set to not minding if there was grain in the footage because we understand that old shit on film will have it & it retains as much details as possible. I'll have to see, though.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.
