I just hope the dispute that is going on over Dragon Ball rights doesn't affect Daima production.

If anything, I want this anime to be a visual spectacle. DBS anime quality was pathetic until ToP and this also Toriyama's last project, where he was even contributing a lot. Extra care must be given to it.

We know that they're already quite far into production, so it's not likely that the series' production has been harmed by the on-going rights issues.

Because there's always new forms to boost toy sales. Super Saiyan Blue and Golden Freeza were last minute additions before Resurrection F was released, and Gohan's Beast transformation came out of nowhere. I'd be surprised if we don't get a new transformation in Daima. Granted there was no new transformation in Broly other than a brief glimpse of a green haired God form, but Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta was the selling point of thar movie.

Super Saiyan Blue and Golden Freeza were last minute additions before Resurrection F was released, and Gohan's Beast transformation came out of nowhere. I'd be surprised if we don't get a new transformation in Daima. Granted there was no new transformation in Broly other than a brief glimpse of a green haired God form, but Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta was the selling point of thar movie.

At the very least, there will certainly be some sort of new designs for them to sell toys of. But given that Daima is redesigning every character anyway, it's possible that indeed there won't be any new transformations, just a massive influx of Kid Goku and Kid Vegeta toys.

Toei and Bandai will probably sink stacks of cash into Daima merch, but I have a bad feeling it won't be hugely successful, at least with Dragon Ball's key audiences. Pretty sure there are already tonnes of chibified Dragon Ball figurines for people who like that niche, so Daima may not have much to offer beyond that. Ireland is right, transformations sell insanely well. I really can't blame them for shoehorning new ones in at every opportunity because people eat that shit up. I'm not a merch collector by any means, but you go on any figurine store, it'll be flooded with variations of Gogeta, Broly, Trunks, etc in their various Super Saiyan forms... or the various female characters with, erm, larger proportions. In terms of merch, that's what the majority of DB fans seem to be looking for.

In terms of traditionally cool character designs, there's the blue elvish guy with the gun (who nobody seems to be discussing, strangely), he may have a smidgen of potential.

If Gokuu gets a new transformation it'll be curious to see if they do this form as Gokuu (Mini) or if it makes Gokuu return to his usual size. Furthermore, it'll be interesting to see if they simply decide to do both, just to sell more merchandise.

It'll also be interesting to see how long this series lasts. It's Toriyama, so it's not like I expected him to write a plot for a two year-long anime, which is typically what we'll see in the 9AM Fuji TV slot. I wonder how many scripts they manage to get done before he passed? If I remember correctly, Digimon Ghost Game was finished with it's scripts about six months before the final episode aired, if I remember correctly. If Daima is going to be upwards of a year, I'm curious to see if they have not only the completely 5-6 months worth of episodes finished by the time Episode #1 airs, but if they'll have upwards of Episode #50-52 scripted, should the series run that long?

Super Saiyan Blue was announced in the 20th issue of Shueshia's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, which was published the Monday before the movie came out.



I also think the fact it had a name as ridiculous as "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan" initially only for the writers to then backtrack and give it a name that's nonsensical in a different way says it all about how much thought was put in.

The initial promo art also used Goku's regular Super Saiyan form, but he never used it in the movie:



So we can speculate the plan originally was for Goku to use it only for plans to be changed down the road.

Freeza's "new evolution" was teased for a while before the movie, but it was revealed to be a new transformation over a month before the movie was released.

I think fans expect Goku to gain new transformations due to the series' tradition of introducing power-ups in each arc, elevating toy and merchandise sales, and fueling fan hype. New forms fit the narrative of constant escalation and self-improvement. This cycle of transformations has become a core part of Dragon Ball lore.

Dragon Ball Daima news information is not controlled by Toei Animation. Furthermore, the character of Yamcha may simply not be in any upcoming Dragon Ball projects, and therefore not require voice lines to be recorded. Additionally, it is possible that if Yamcha does appear in Dragon Ball Daima the series has yet to begin voice recording. Dragon Ball Kai was recorded a month before it aired, after all.
