Oh shit, I was born in the same year as Trunks. That's neat to know, I suppose.Koitsukai wrote: Thu Apr 22, 2021 2:23 pm Trunks (2001) would be 20 years old, Goten (2002) and Pan (2014)

Re: Let's Use The Real World Calendar.
If you place his birth year as AGE 737, yes. That's correct. But since it was said Goku was twelve, then we must assume the tournament takes place before Goku's birthday.WittyUsername wrote: Thu Apr 22, 2021 8:41 pmMinor point, but since the 21st Budokai should logically take place around a year after the Pilaf saga, shouldn’t that make Goku 13 at that point, and not 12?
If you place his birth year as AGE 736 (going by Dragon Ball Minus), he would be fourteen (or thirteen-going-fourteen).
Re: Let's Use The Real World Calendar.
it's very curious indeed.PurestEvil wrote: Sun Mar 13, 2022 12:47 pm So Battle of Gods and the beginning of Super were actually released in their respective years? That's pretty interesting...
I don't see the objective of trying to put DB into our years, it does not even happen in our Earth.

And I don't think everything has to have an "objective". As the opening post states, it's supposed to be something fun.
Also, there's no "trying", I did it and it worked (and it revealed that we would be living at some point when the Dragon Ball events would still be happening. Little fun trivia to know about without an objective).

Re: Let's Use The Real World Calendar.
This is really interesting and it also kinda helps me with a story i'm working on right now that has real world dates in the Dragon World for it to work.
I want to ask what is the basis for the 1984 date to begin with, Dr. Slump? I want to know what the "anchor date" is and how much time passes between Dr. Slump and Dragon Ball (my bet is that it's less than a year but still), i appreciate any answers on this subject because it is really important for me.

Re: Let's Use The Real World Calendar.
In the manga, Dr. Slump is stated to be set in 1980, while the Daizenshuu timeline has it set in age 745, 4 years before Goku meets Bulma. So you just translate the years from there.Ashur wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 8:57 pm This is really interesting and it also kinda helps me with a story i'm working on right now that has real world dates in the Dragon World for it to work.

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Thank you very much! That works perfectly, i'll be using this timeline of the events for my story, then, this was a big winjjgp1112 wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 9:23 pmIn the manga, Dr. Slump is stated to be set in 1980, while the Daizenshuu timeline has it set in age 745, 4 years before Goku meets Bulma. Re: Let's Use The Real World Calendar.
The basis I use is the fact that 1984 is the year Dragon Ball was released. It stands to reason that 1984 translates to AGE 749, as that's the year you'll get for Pilaf saga by doing math correctly based on "AGE 788" mentioned in the manga.Ashur wrote: Fri Mar 25, 2022 8:57 pmI want to ask what is the basis for the 1984 date to begin with, Dr. Slump?
Whatever Doctor Slump states is purely coincidental. It's good to have some official thing that may corroborate with this "correlation" between the fictional years of Dragon Ball and the real world years, but even if we didn't have that Doctor Slump tidbit, I would still say "1984 = AGE 749". It's an arbitrary decision, but one that makes the most sense.
Re: Let's Use The Real World Calendar.
Well I imagine Shueisha chose to place it 4 years before the Pilaf arc on the DB timeline precisely so that DB would start in its first year of publication.Grimlock wrote: Sat Mar 26, 2022 12:03 amThe basis I use is the fact that 1984 is the year Dragon Ball was released. Re: Let's Use The Real World Calendar.
Yes i was aware it coincided with the beginning of publication of the manga, but i was looking for something in-universe, thankfully they made it so the dates of release fit with the in-universe dates as well, i just didin't want to fully base a timeline on something out of universe because there could be a detail somewhere that completely contradicted it.Grimlock wrote: Sat Mar 26, 2022 12:03 amThe basis I use is the fact that 1984 is the year Dragon Ball was released. According to this calender I was born in 756 (1991)

Re: Let's Use The Real World Calendar.
Such a cool thread to revive.
I still can make edits, so I made a few adjustments (for some reason I didn't mention Jaco, the Galactic Patrolman), and if you want to know the dates of other things, just let me know. Took the opportunity to double check the dates and everything else, all is still right.
We are experiencing the Dragon Ball GT events. Which means we are all going to die soon, unless some Goku decides to evacuate us to another planet. We are going to lose Piccolo, though.

Re: Let's Use The Real World Calendar.
I kinda wish they hadn't equated Dragon Ball years to real world years. Since I was born in 1991, that is later than the destruction of Planet Vegeta and my favorite species in the Dragon Ball world is the Saiyans, aside from dragons and dinosaurs. That would mean in the Dragon Ball world I'd have no chance to be born a Saiyan in canon. That and since I was fully introduced to Dragon Ball as an adult. I identify more with the older Z fighters. I realize that these are silly reasons. But they are still reasons.

It's just a fandom thing for fun and not something the actual series applied.Hulk10 wrote: Sat Aug 31, 2024 4:20 pm I kinda wish they hadn't equated Dragon Ball years to real world years. I mean it would put the Cell and Boo saga in the 2000s and they're so 90s it hurts (for the obvious reason that Toriyama isn't psychic and wouldn't be able to predict 2000s fashion, technology, and trends)

Re: Let's Use The Real World Calendar.
(Updated the opening post to include Dragon Ball Daima. I don't believe it has an official name yet, so I will be calling it "Demon Realm saga" for now.
Trunks is celebrating his ninth birthday, this undoubtedly puts the series in AGE 775 (2010 in real life). That means one year after Majin Buu saga and one year before the Tarble OVA.)
The commentary in parenthesis and italic above is from a deleted post, ignore it if you have seen it before.
---------------------------------------
As they are making kind of a big deal that Toriyama is involved with Xenoverse 3, figured I should update the opening post once again to include those games, seeing as how Xenoverse is now a canonical game too. It turns out some of us might still be alive by the time the first two games occur.
