Did you miss Mr. Satan as comic relief in DBS?

Post by GatoF » Tue Jul 16, 2024 8:26 pm

Mr. Satan had a good screen time for humor purposes from the Cell Games to the end of Boo arc and being key in the Kid Boo's defeat, but like his daughter he was forgotten in DBS, basically only appearing from a brief moment in the exhibition match to cheer up Majin Boo a character he built a great relationship of friendship and maybe could have been explored more.

Now that Pan was born i wish to see more interaction between them as Satan is probably a much better grandpa than Goku.

They created a similar character in Monaka as the strongest character that is actually one the weakest, but sorry he doesn't have near the same charisma.

Would you also like to have seen Mr. Satan more in Dragon Ball Super?

Personally, not really. Super was chock full of comic relief in general, so I don't think we were really hurting from a relative lack of it from Mr. Satan.

Don't forget, he had a whole episode for himself:

No, because Lord Beerus is more funny than Mr. Satan ever was.
At his core Zamasu is good like Shin, though I guess you could say he was so fastidious that it backfired. But you know, for this "Future Trunks Arc" you had to depict Zamasu and Trunks' inner conflict, right? If this was back when I was drawing the manga myself then I doubt if I could have done it. I mean, I'm not very good at depicting the characters' psychology on the page. So this all came together because now I only have to think up the story. [...] On my own, I doubt I would have been able to express Zamasu's fall to the dark side.

I like that he didn't overstay his welcome.

How could he follow up his character moment when he helped charge the Spirit Bomb anyway?

To me, Satan lost a lot of charisma after his original VA (Japanese) died. His successors miss a certain kind of flair that Mr. Gori had, which made the character.

Do you think Dragon Ball Super missed an opportunity by not giving Mr. Satan more screen time, especially as Pan's grandfather?

Nope. Not really.

To be fair I was never a big fan of his. He always seemed more annoying than amusing to me ;)
Having him be a comic relief again nowadays would make it very boring and stale.

I do however enjoy his appearances when he does something more than "I am te strongest man on earth" schtick. Example, his interaction with Goku in the first episode.

If they could give him a role as a caring grandfather, this actually I would like to watch. Sort of what GT was trying to do in the beginning.

I do miss when he interact with the villains. He has meet every villain in DBZ except for Freeza. He should have try to fight against him already.

I think they missed the opportunity to have gag with Mr Satan. Instead they went overboard with DBS Goku, making him as dumb as possible, any chance that they got. Even when Goku isn't the focus, he still has to be dumb.

Even if the things DBS Goku does contradict Toriyama manga, Goku still has to do dumb things, which doesn't even make sense at all.

I've just rewatched Super and I definitely missed his presence, when watching I had wished he got to go and watch the TOP in the stands and add his commentary like he did for the expo matches - though I understand why he didn't or more likely couldn't.

I even missed Videl tbh especially watching Super straight off the back of Z, but yeah it does seem like they went overboard trying to make Goku really dumb and thinking that that could replace the majority of other humorous moments instead.

side note: they really tried to make Goku act like when he was a kid but even he had more of a grown up & serious side to him in the appropriate moments.
Frieza?! .. You fool!!!!!

I don't really like Mr.Satan as a character, as he stole the credits from the other DB people.
He pretend to be the one who defeated Cell.
After he became related to Goku, he is still the same proud person.
