Conspiracy
The idea of a "conspiracy" has been brought up in early promotional material for this series. The word for "conspiracy" in Japanese is 陰謀 (inbou) which is written here in the episode title in katakana (rather than kanji or hiragana) as: インボウ

THREAD/DISCUSSION INFORMATION
Q: What is this thread?
A: This is the singular/dedicated discussion thread for Dragon Ball Daima episode 1. All content regarding this specific episode would be great to include here in this thread, rather than a dedicated / larger / all-encompassing ongoing thread. Posts that are specific to this individual episode in another thread with no relevance to the larger series or discussion taking place there will be reported and/or removed.
Q: When will this thread open?
A: This thread will be opened by a Kanzenshuu moderator when the episode is available to watch, through official channels, in its entirety.
Q: What is the history behind a [blank]-specific discussion thread?
A: We established episode-specific discussion threads beginning with Dragon Ball Kai in 2009, followed by the Dragon Ball Super television series in 2015. These episode-specific threads allowed people to discuss just that: those specific episodes, without being interrupted by other discussions regarding general production, promotion, etc. This is in contrast to, for example, other things on our website like our podcast reviews, which generally tackle story arcs as complete wholes.
Q: OK, but... so what's the point?
A: At Kanzenshuu we believe in history and preservation. It is worthwhile to future versions of ourselves and entirely new future fans to be able to dig back and find real-time reactions to specific productions (such as a specific episode or chapter). It's much easier to do this when the discussions are separated into these unique threads.
Q: When will new threads be created?
A: Threads for new/upcoming episodes will be created by a Kanzenshuu administrator at an appropriate point in time. Please do not attempt to create episode discussion threads of your own.
Q: What kinds of "sources" can we discuss?
A: You can discuss whatever you want, so long as it lives up to the community guidelines. It is recommended that you link to / discuss actual sources of information, rather than second-hand accounts. Random Twitter users are not "sources" of information. Shueisha has its own official Dragon Ball website and weekly news broadcast on YouTube, and then there is of course Dragon Ball Daima's own official website, which will in all likelihood be your actual primary sources of information leading up to an episode’s release.
Q: What if I have something to say about another episode that's not this episode?
A: Is what you have to say/ask/post even tangentially related to this episode? That's fine. Does it have absolutely nothing to do with this episode? Post it elsewhere. These episode-specific threads do not automatically close after a new episode comes out; you are free to keep discussing a specific episode for as long as you all feel like talking about it.
Q: How does this relate to [insert example here]? Why isn't [insert example here] lining up with [insert example here] from [insert example here]?
A: We don't know! We're all learning along the way! Maybe everything counts! Maybe nothing counts! Maybe only certain things count!

They made a complete fucking mess of the Potara.
Shin and Kibito use Majin Boo to defuse but that contradicts DBS in more than 1 way.

I'm 7 minutes in, so far it's been a summary of the Buu saga, I like the music and the animation

Mr. Popo is back, when was the last time he appeared?
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
The animation was absolutely fantastic. But that was to be expected. Unfortunately, I find everything else so far rather... modest. Either Toriyama decided to completely ignore and undo Super and start a new continuity here, or they just shit on it and let logic holes and contradictions rule. It could be a nice story on its own, but it just doesn't fit into the established timeline front and centre. They could have made it an End of Z sequel, there's no reason to slap it between S and Super. It annoys me.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
This episode looked stunning, I hate chibi style so I'm so sad about the wish!
Loved all the new lore implications. Nameks always being from the demon realm and the new namekians powers. Shin having a brother and a sister! (Unless all kais talk about themselves like this) I'm sure trunks being 9 is a problem as well.
But of course we have to talk about the potara retcon of a retcon. How many times do we have to explain about kibito and supreme Kai unfusing. Are potaras back to permanent (not that it matters with the buu thing)
Interesting they are going back to children, I thought it was stated previously they were just getting minitiateused not actually deaged. Now piccolos look is also an issue.
Maybe I'm just over hyped but that was a really strong episode 1 apart from a few small issues.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
Not much happened, a lot of recap and set up.
Love the lore tidbits so far, I hope they go ham on them. I always wanted to know more about the Demon Realm.
New characters are fun.
In regards to possible contradictions with Super. I don't care and I hope the writing doesn't care as well. ´
It's more fun to explore new avenues than to be stuck on "canon" or arbitrary rules.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
6 years; 6 months; 2 weeks; 2 days have passed, and here we are again, weekly chatting about another episode of a Dragon Ball animated series, which I can already say left a great impression on me.
- I’m kinda jealous of Gomah and Degesu for being able to watch the Majin Boo arc in such good quality, lol.
- Ignoring Heroes and other stuff, can we say this is the first time in decades that the Demon Realm is being officially tackled?
- As has been figured out before: no new Dragon Ball series without a new set of Dragonballs. Really curious to see how these Demon Realm ones work.
- Arinsu and Glorio remind me a lot of Towa and Mira; I wonder if they ended up being an inspiration.
- So, about that “bad air” that unfused Vegetto—does that hold up? If I remember right, in DBS, Kibitoshin wished to Shenron to unfuse; can someone confirm if that’s a plot hole?
- Goku vs. Vegeta is super overdone, but I’ll let it slide since it shows off how amazing the animation is. But seriously, could they explain why Goku suddenly decided to change his gi?
- I know Mr. Popo is supposed to be calm and centered, but with enemies threatening the God of Earth, he should show a different side since he’s the only one there to protect The Lookout.
- I thought we’d get a NEP, but looks like we won’t. Either way, can’t wait for the next one!

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
I'm the opposite to be honest, the building lore that's been ongoing is what makes this series so great and the world impactful. If we just start retconning everything it's going to lose a lot of meaning to me and really trigger my specific ocd on this! Super power scaling has already done a lot of damage.LightBing wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 2:01 pm Not much happened, a lot of recap and set up.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
I don't think Shin and Kibito unfusing is going to be a problem. They are propably going to run into a situation where fusing is advantageous and then stay like that for the rest of the series.
Following up on Namekians being mentioned as beings from another dimension was a nice surprise. It seems to me that the universes might all share a single demon realm? I don't know if that's new info if so.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
I'm torn about this other new Potara fusion ret-con.
On the one hand it makes the separation that happened during the Buu saga make a little more sense since it doesn't seem like an hour had passed during their fight against Buu and the limitations that happened in Super hadn't been explained.
But it also makes Vegetto's fusion still not permanent so they can easily fuse without limits and then use Buu to reverse the fusion.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
Huh, perhaps this exists completely separately of Super?
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
Pretty good. Wish we got this sort of production and lore-porn on a story that was nostalgia-baiting for something besides Kid Goku, but I'll live. I'm not sure why people think this is somehow a new continuity that is ignoring Super. They mention multiple universes, which is a Super thing.
The potara thing isn't some smoking gun for this, and I don't even think it's a plothole or contradiction. We simply know now that mortal potara fusions have a time limit, and all potara fusions can be split by Boo's gas. Doesn't seem hard to grasp. The bigger oddity is frankly that Goku and Vegeta are training together, something that didn't start becoming a thing until after Battle of Gods. But, like, Dragon Ball usually has weird continuity flubs when it comes to details like that. It is not indicative of a broadly new continuity.

The animation is so GORGEOUS, i love it
Daima has the potencial to be my favorite DB media after the original manga

It's the same with GT. Super didn't bother to mesh with it and as such they're completely isolated.nato25 wrote: Fri Oct 11, 2024 2:06 pmI'm the opposite to be honest, the building lore that's been ongoing is what makes this series so great and the world impactful. Daima might be isolated as well.
I don't think this was referenced as a prequel to Super, so I think the intent is there from the start.
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
Now this is more like it. Gomah, Degesu and Arinsu are all nicely set-up. I feel like I understand their motivations a lot just by letting them converse for a while. Gomah has a bit of a Pilaf edge to him, but I think it works. I'm curious what Degesu's exact motivations are, because as much as he's being a sycophant to the cynical and sneaky Gomah, he also seems to be keeping his head down to get what he wants. Then there is Dr. Arinsu, who is also playing at her own game. The fact that she needs to go to the Supreme Demon King for funding gives the Demon Realm a quaint feel that matches the annoying aspects of our society. I'm really curious how these three will intersect as the plot progresses and I'm really hoping that we continue to get scenes like the first sixteen minutes of Episode #1.
The storyboard by Director Yashima Yoshitaka was really good at keeping the blocking very fun and energetic. Dialogue-heavy scenes definitely need that kind of creativity and I really loved that there was so much of that.
In fact, I really loved how Gokuu and friends were basically not involved with the majority of the episode. I'm more invested in whatever arcs these new characters have going on, and what the full nature of whatever threats Gomah might face to his rule are.
Kakihara Yuuko receiving credit as シリーズ構成・脚本 (series composition & script) is interesting. I thought that other writers might be involved with scripting the series, but I'm curious if Kakihara will actually be writing every script herself. If so, that means stronger control of the plot and characterization.
I'm not really sure how people think Dragon Ball Daima is separate from Dragon Ball Super. Dragon Ball Super explained that for non-Kaiou the Potara merger was not permanent. Kibito and Shin asking Majin Buu to help them separate would still have needed to happen if they decided to merge again.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 1 - Official Discussion Thread
I have returned from my grave just to post my opinions about this thing:
Pros:
- The animation is beautiful.
- The soundtrack actually sounds good and unique, and not "Generic new anime/hollywood movie"
- I didn't hear Chichi throw a million complaints about studying, Vegeta throwing a million tantrums about surpassing Kakarot, or Goku doing things that make me question his maturity and make me want to strangle him. That's progress.
Bad:
- The pacing is abysmal. The entire half-episode recap was a chore to get through, nearly made me drop or skip the episode entirely. Could have been easily summed up with the one line they give: "We watched a video of yours."
Misc:
- Given that Kibito and Shin defuse before Super... I'm treating this as a separate continuity until proven wrong.
- White magic... First, it was "You can't wish things to change beings more powerful than the DB's creator." Then, it was, "You need to ask their consent before you change them." Now there's white magic rules. Sure.
- "No, no, no. Piccolo being retconned into an alien is not a retcon or an inconsistency or means he's suddenly an entire difference race, because you see, there's this entire cultural difference and meaning of the word "Demon" in Japan and surely Toriyama was thinking about that deeper meaning when conceptualizing Piccolo's new race and-" - "Uh, by the way guys, did you know Namekians are actually ancestors from the Demon Realm?
"
