Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 6 - Official Discussion Thread
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 6 - Official Discussion Thread
No meaningful progression... What were all those new forms in super about with God ki if not surpassing the gods lol
I really enjoyed the episode but did feel we were getting a bit too much back to the lore dumps that seem to happen whenever we are just walking or flying. I guess we aren't used to experiencing all this travel in Dragon Ball, there would normally be more cuts.

That doesn’t mean much to me when the show starts with Goku being significantly outclassed by Beerus and ends with Goku being significantly outclassed by Beerus. That would be the equivalent of Goku never surpassing muten roshi in the non-z portion of DB. I can only speak for myself but i prefer the status quo in Daima.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 6 - Official Discussion Thread
This episode was...weird.
The Minotaur gags were hilarious and I knew he would be a gag character the moment I heard his voice. Love his seiyuu. The Goku ones were not funny at all tho, and they have already ruined Panzy by making her the generic "annoyed at Goku's antics" character.
The fight was cool animation-wise, but would have been way better if 1) Super Saiyan had not been pointlessly shown already in the previous episode, and 2) we didn't already know the end results by trailers, including Goku nullying the blast. Hard to get hyped about it when you can predict everything on it. It's also weird Glorio was impressed by Goku's showing off last episode, but now he claims he is "just a child" and that he doesn't seem very strong. Dude, you literally saw him both transforming and defeating Majin Buu in Gomah's castle. That was incredibly forced and already manages to feel out of character.
I'm surpised we learned about who hired Glorio this early (trough it's very weird he was shown in episode 1 then, surely he has his own motives to work for Arinsu) but that and the Glind bit were probably the most interesting things.
It was also painfully obvious the end scene would result in a failure, simply because Bulma wasn't going with them.
It's probably the least interesting episode so far, which is somehow ironic when it's more action-based. If this is the worst Daima can offer it's still leagues above Super and it isn't infuriating or anything, but it's just...kind of there.

- Weakest episode so far. Exposition-heavy filled with pointless scenes.
- Am I supposed to be impressed by the Goku vs. Glorio fight? Super Saiyan isn't that high of a bar anymore, you know?
- That minotaur character was seriously wasted. The opening and preview made me think he'd amount to anything.
- Bulma and the others are joining already, that's... Oh, they're repeating the "Chi-Chi goes to Namek" bullshit.
- Is there any reason they can't just beat the shit out of the police?
What you point out as bad, I actually enjoyed it.
The pacing feels great to me, it has happened every single time (except for episode 2) that the show feels too short, and I am the type of person who mostly watches 10 min long videos on youtube because of time concerns, not feeling it as a waste of my time I would say is an achievement on its own. It is enjoyable, it is interesting, it is something you want to keep on watching and the quality of the animation and music is a great part of it as well, in my humble opinion, of course...
I am impressed by that fight indeed! I make connections to the Makankosapo (sorry for misspelling guys I am mexican with no studies in Japanese language) from Piccolo, hence I was truly concerned about our little fellow Goku, I mean, last time he faced that he died (Radditz saga) but this Goku is post Majin Buu saga, so we know that he has a power equivalent to the SSJ3.
The minotaur will be back, I am sure.
Bulma and the others, OH SWEET! My two all time favorite characters:Bulma and Vegeta, finally! In a scene that totally makes sense, I hope Bulma IS GOING because otherwise I will call the ending a BIG LIE!
I recommend watching the show with subtitles in your own language, because Glorio mentions it is better not to call the police attention, that was the reason.
Having addressed the "bad" from my POV, I would like to add:
They went full starwars with the dark force sith-like powers ... it is not a complain, the only reason why I left star wars was episode VII.
Lance, you are right, the poop jokes were unnecessary...once... ok... but twice!?

I've held off a lot on saying this just to avoid weird dramatic responses, but I think at this point it shouldn't be that bit an issue to state that I really don't think this series is going to have a ton of re-watch value. Things happen, but the plot itself isn't really progressing. There's too little a sense of movement, even if locations change. The lack of any real B-plot has definitely helped highlight this as an issue with the series. We're six episodes in—probably a fourth of the way through the series—usually there would be a nice dramatic shift here, but instead it still feels like the series is trying to get off the ground.

Minotaur coming to fight but inadvertently instigating a pissing contest between Goku and Glorio was great.

What a weird episode.
We finally learn what Glorio's deal is, but the scene of the ship breaking down in the last episode was entirely unnecessary...if the purpose was to just get Goku out of sight when the police showed up, they could've simply landed in this episode.
But then...a better way to expand on that whole thing is just to have them trying to avoid the police filled skies for a while until landing was deemed necessary by Goku needing to do whatever. They didn't even show Panzy fixing the ship (or taking out the stuff they apparently left behind) during that downtime, so it was just pointless.
More exposition...just confirming for fans that Supreme Kai is still born from a tree because being from the Demon Realm and called a Glind somehow had people thinking otherwise. This was fine, though again it didn't seem to serve a real point...maybe that's for later. I'm all for our characters getting to know each other, but that wasn't much honestly.
Goku turning Super Saiyan here feels like it was supposed to be the actual first time it happens. I'm glad this fight wasn't the first time it showed up because...Goku & Glorio's fight was shockingly slow and unimpressive. I liked Goku's transformation...but this wasn't a great showcase of Super Saiyan nor of Glorio's power which is what Shin wanted to see. Glorio had a neat Ki whip attack...but they didn't make use of it at all, so we'll see it in action later I hope.
I'm also surprised at the reason they start fighting...to decide which one gets to fight the Minotaur? From last episode previews I thought they'd be training or something. I'd also thought that when the Minotaur showed up since it's in the intro...it'd be the first serious fight that characters would get into, something to justify Super Saiyan, but I guess not. This was honestly the most pointless fight of the series so far despite being one that would've otherwise had justification to be that.
Also we finally cut back to the characters on Earth...can't believe it. Didn't make reference to the information Shin passed onto Kibito...not much happened and we get another ship "crash". This is obviously to set up for when guy shows up to help transport them to the Demon Realm...but it doesn't feel like this was needed either. This was probably my least favorite episode after episode 1.
---
It's honestly so funny how people can call the mere mention of "poop" a...poop joke. There's not even a joke there...Goku just has to use the bathroom. It's no rationale, people are really offended by bodily functions.

-I feel like they are struggling to differentiate magic from any technique we've already seen before in the anime. Like how is glorios magic attack any different from a ki blast aside from appearance? And they want us to be impressed with gokus feat but how can we if they dont explain what the attack can actually do and how goku is able to nullify it.

I still can’t wrap my head around a demon being allowed to be a guardian. Really hoping daima isn’t canon and just an alternate story like GT. Ruins the kaios for me personally.

Incredibly fun episode. I am convinced I must be watching a different show than half the people in these threads.
Laughed my ass off at the minotaur guy ultimately just being an excuse for Goku and Glorio's pissing contest. What I'd worried I'd get was something predictable like him being the filler monster of the week, what I actually got was Goku calling him a cow and participating in a sparring match that instead furthered the dynamic between two of the main cast. Neat little subversion that was funny and contributed to the story, and it shows that Glorio is certainly less stoic than he lets on.
We also now know that Glorio is working for Arinsu. We know why Degesu stayed behind in the demon realm while his brethren left. Gomah is clearly just a disposable cog in the machinations of all these shady characters, so it's good to finally have some proper buildup for the actual bad guys. This is infinitely more fascinating to me than Panzy just being Bulma 2.0 or the gang hanging out in a castle for half an episode, so hopefully we'll learn more about these characters in the coming weeks.
There's plenty of progression and pacing happening for a longform adventure like this. It's just not always going to be surface level plot progression per se, which is totally fine at this stage of the narrative.
____________
Addendum: Bulma repairing the ship only for it to crash again anyway was maybe the one thing I wasn't crazy about, if I have to pick a nit. I'm sure there's a point to this, which I guess is Hybis doing his thing, but ending the whole episode on that note isn't very satisfying.
Also, it's nice to just have it relayed properly this time.

Arinsu and Glorio are Towa and Mira. I'm almost positive Mira will be revealed to be an artificial being by the end, and will be the final villain after acquiring some kind of power, not Gomah or the guardians. Only difference is they may not be siblings to Dabura.
Speaking of which, I really want more Dabura information. What kind of king was he (previous episode implied he was evil, but not as much as Gomah)? What was his personality pre-Majin? Did he fight those dragon ball guardians and lose?

I'm kinda lukewarm on Daima, but this is probably my favorite episode just because of the Lore dump on Kai birth. We already knew that Kai's came from trees, but having a visual of it was nice. Also, the line about Kais not having genders confused me. There are male-like Glinds and female-like Glinds so they clearly have genders even if they lack a sex. Like, I understand that they don't reproduce sexually like humans do, but why do they have different sex bodies instead of just being androgynous? It will probably never be explained, unless Kais choose what they look like.

I mean to me, it's no different from Yu Yu Hakusho, where demons are stigmatized as uniformly evil but it's more complex than that. It's merely a classification, not a moral determinant.DBFanGuy wrote: Fri Nov 15, 2024 8:01 pm I still can’t wrap my head around a demon being allowed to be a guardian. I assume that Shin just meant that Glinds aren't assigned some arbitrary gender at birth and they simply do whatever works for them.Extreme_kai wrote: Fri Nov 15, 2024 11:27 pm I'm kinda lukewarm on Daima, but this is probably my favorite episode just because of the Lore dump on Kai birth. The Glinds being sexless and presumably identifying with their preferred gender later on is interesting and cool.
I'm guessing this means Arinsu's breasts was some kind of cosmetic addition, maybe? My wife pointed that out while we were watching the episode.

It's not cosmetic if it's gender-affirming.
