Crunchyroll releasing new Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Z Blu-Ray boxsets in the UK

Post by Dragon Ball Ireland » Fri Sep 20, 2024 8:58 am

I was told this was coming, but now its official.

Both Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Z will be getting Crunchyroll-branded box sets for the UK and Ireland.

The former will be available for £97.49 and the latter goes for £127.49, which are not bad prices for what your getting.

The boxes are also rather nice:

Now would probably be the time for anyone that wants to support Z in 4:3 to buy the 2020/2021 Manga UK Blu-Rays in case they go out-of-print as this probably means the 2013/14 cropped discs are finally making their way to the UK and may become the standard.

Both will be released on December 2nd.

Those are very good prices for the amount of content. I imagine the previous 4:3 sets will eventually go out of print in favour if this. I'm honestly tempted to get these just for the cool boxes.

I'm pretty sure this is the 4th complete set we've had for Super. I currently only own the parts.

I noticed a HMV facebook post earlier that claimed this was "Z on blu-ray for the first time", which is absurd as it's the 4th set we've had in the last 5 years. We had the 30th anniversary set in 2019, the Steelbooks and Slipcover sets in 2021, and now this.

Correct, there was the deluxe box set Manga UK released in 2020, the standard variant and the 2022 steelbook collection.

I own the parts myself, but I really wanted that beautiful box for Super, then I sold the digipacks that contained the discs and repurchased it through the standard version (which contains the same digipacks). I made as much from selling the digipacks as I paid for the standard complete series, which was crazy because I repurchased it new.

I didn't get the steelbook set because I couldn't justify paying hundreds again for Super when I only watched the parts once or twice each, although it was tempting.

I've already pre-ordered these on Amazon so I can always cancel. Going to be selling some stuff like the 2013/14 16:9 Blu-Rays (this will obviously be the same thing but I want the box).

I'm kinda crazy though. I like supporting UK releases of Dragon Ball, and owning the series, often several times over. Worst part is, knowing Funimation/Crunchyroll you just know this won't be the last time they release all of Dragon Ball Z and Super.

Still wish original Dragon Ball and GT could get this kind of milking, it's weird at least the former hasn't been released on Blu-Ray in English-speaking territories when it was in Germany by Crunchyroll no less.

To no ones surprise it is the 16:9 discs not the 30th anniversary 4:3 discs Manga UK released for their standard Blu-Rays.

For anyone looking to buy this boxset be warned the back seems to indicate it is missing these special features, which were included in the 2014 US release of Season 9:
  • Inside Dragon Ball Z : Interview with Josh Martin
  • Inside Dragon Ball Z : Interview with Chris Rager
  • From East to West : Dragon Ball Z's Epic Journey
  • A Completely Serious Discussion About the Comedy of Dragon Ball Z
