This is definitely the weakest episode for me so far but the ending does look promising for things to come. Majin Kuu being a Fusion of Majin Buu, a Saibamen, and Demon World Monster is extremely fascinating to me and I do genuinely hope we get to see it's fight against Tamagami #1. Outside of the ending the rest of the episode felt more like padding.
Vegeta walking around with his Happy Meal was a cute touch though..

Daima don't miss, baby!
Loved the first half of this episode because the conflict with the thieves and how they resolved it adds an evolving pathos to our main group. All the hotel scenes were great. Not only is Panzy now showing that she's a useful asset, Glorio is slowly growing a bond with everyone and doesn't even seem to realize it yet. This all definitely looks to be setting up some internal conflict later, which wouldn't be remotely as impactful without episodes like this one. Very meticulous character growth and buildup throughout the whole show, despite the episodic format or how quickly the group moves from one area to the next.
Also got a real kick out of Goku reuniting with Vegeta only to leave Vegeta's group behind again anyway. And Majin Kuu is going straight after Tamagami #1, further displaying Arinsu's cunning while deviating from wherever we expect the protagonists to end up next. And Hybis apparently has the third demon eye. And hopefully nobody stole the Dragon Ball again while Goku fell asleep. This is anything but "telegraphed"; we generally have no idea where things are going. The next episode's preview literally showed us nothing, and as much as I like longer previews, I lowkey love that shit.
Vegeta making quick work of the thieves nicely contrasts with Goku's handling of the thieves in the first half. The latter's first resort isn't violence, while the former doesn't think twice. Longtime fans might already be familiar with their dynamic, but the intended demographic and first-time DB viewers are not, which works for me.
Lastly, I just want to reiterate once again that animated serialized Dragon Ball hasn't been this consistently funny since... um, ever, actually. The constant intermingling of gags and character flaws every week is top notch. So glad that Goku is just Goku and nothing like his GT counterpart. Probably the only running gag that isn't landing perfectly with me are the ship problems, but all things considered, that's fine.
P.S. Who the fuck invited Bojack Horseman???
Very fun stuff.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 9 - Official Discussion Thread
This was the first episode of Daima to actively bore me, which is something Dragon Ball should never do. There was practically no plot progression outside of the last two minutes, none of the fights were aesthetically interesting or unique and none of the gags were funny.
To cap it all off, the design of Majin Koo is HIDEOUS. Which is so jarring considering that most of the character designs for Daima up until that reveal have been excellent for the most part.
Bad episode.

My god this episode was bad, as bad as super and gt! I'm starting to think Akira wasn't that much involved in this.
- Goku taking off the hat was blatant stupidity, something Toei normally does with goku even in the db and dbz anime fillers or movies.
-Goku struggling to get the dragon ball from fodder again seemed more like something Toei would do for entertainment disregarding power scaling/consistency
- Gokus group turning back just to tell vegetas group they can't help them is also something toei would do, I dont know where they get these writers at toei animation and I dont know their work conditions but this is just bad. Though this is as I said is expected of toei, after watching db, dbz and one piece fillers+super and gt I've come to accept that Toei animation are only good at animating fights and nothing else. So I guess I'll be turning my brain off from here on out.

One of the most boring episodes in daima good lord
The gangs ship gets stolen for what the 3rd time now how many times are they going to redo the same plot point?
Just serves to drag on the show when it isn’t necessary and Vegeta beating up the demons may look nice it just seems flat because they aren’t a threat to him whatsoever
The first half of the episode could’ve been removed entirely from the show just was a chore to get through.Majin kuu design is horrible as well and Saibamen come from the demon realm now as well I just hope that the saiyans aren’t from this realm as well

I really want to agree.
But I'm really starting to think the severity of Goku's stupidity + consequences doesn't actually matter...

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 9 - Official Discussion Thread
Good episode, but as I expected: not as good as the last one, though this had some interesting revelations.
• Goku saying he doesn’t like wearing panties when Panzy offered to lend him some clothes is funny, but also curious: has he ever tried to wear one?
• I’m sure Goku’s move of just meeting Vegeta and the others to say “hi” and then immediately saying they’re leaving because they’re in a hurry to fight the other Tamagamis came straight from Toriyama lol
• Even though it’s cool to see Vegeta (mini) in action, it wasn’t all that impressive, and Piccolo still seems to be the only one who just shrank and didn’t turn into a kid like the rest
• Now Gomah knows his enemies are in the Demon World, I wonder what’s gonna happen with that info
• So, we found out that Saibamen seeds come from the Demon World? How did the Saiyans even get their hands on them?
• "Majin Kuu" is a name that’s gonna be awkward for us Brazilian DB fans lol
• I thought the design of this new Majin was pretty weak, especially with the color choices, but he does look pretty threatening, and seeing him in action against a Tamagami seems exciting
• NEP doesn’t show much other than exploring some maritime areas (?), I just hope it’s not another slow episode

That took me longer to realize than it should. I blame it on being Friday.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 9 - Official Discussion Thread
Gokuu took the hat off because somebody—probably Toriyama—thought it was funny. There's a dozen cooks in the kitchen and at the end of the day, they're subject to the whims of the original creator.
Anyway, this was just more of the same plodding plotting for Daima. I'm wondering what Kuu will be like as a character, though.

Well it seems most people here so far did not like it.
I did. I enjoyed this episode nearly as much as the others. It felt entertaining. I like the animation and the music and the pacing feels fine too. They have not done anything disappointing or unforgivable (I am a huge GT fan so I have high resistance).
Not a fan of how Vegeta looks as a child, I mean, Goku looks cute with the pink bear hat (I can see the merchandising already coming and the cosplays) but Vegeta just looks like a skinny dwarf Vegeta. Goku ditching Vegeta, Bulma and Piccolo like that was odd unexpected, as some pointed it out, it was bad writing. But the fight was decent and they were in character.
(German)
Shame they did not go for a Girl Majin Buu, as I imagined (and did the fanart of it).
Having said all of that I am still hyped, I still think it is better than Super, and I will keep on watching it.

I agree. A saibaiman? REALLY? A SAIBAIMAN????? Those are not even powerful. I can´t find a good reason to bring them back, besides probably just trying to connect with DBZ fans...? Or upset us...? Plus I can't help but laughing at the name each time, because I hear it as "Majin Kuh" so.. With all the GT comparisons, at least GT villains and had way better designs.

In Toei's defense, they were the ones responsible for Superman Goku in the original DBZ films. "Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 9 - Official Discussion Thread
I like how Daima's weakest episode still mogs anything we've got from this franchise since the '08 Jump anime special. I get a few laughs, a well choreographed fight and good animation to boot. Hell we squeezed a Goku Fight and two Vegeta fights into one episode - This is even taking the huge blow-out fight from last episode into consideration.
People saying this is worse than GT seriously need to go back and re-watch that show.
It's probably is the worst episode so far, but as long as Daima at least provides its bare minimum, I'm still entertained. Great to see Goku wearing a new outfit too, always into that.

Damn somehow I really thought it was going to be a cool femme Majin, but it's... Really bland. So bland I feel like I've seen him before. Maybe it's just a first form thing.

I also thought Arinsu's...DNA adding to it would've made for a female Majin, but that was apparently too hopeful for Dragon Ball.
If it does have more forms, that won't get rid of the stank...of this first design. It'll just be made worse if the other designs are just as bland.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 9 - Official Discussion Thread
I think the biggest elephant in the room for me so far is the necessity for all these covert operations. There has been no reason why they have to hide and travel in secrecy at all. Why can't Goku just blow shit up and solve the problem by punching people? That's what he's already doing with extra steps.
And decisively count me out on this interpretation of Goku. This is chapter 1 Goku, not chapter 519 turned into a child.

Man I dont want to be negative, if you love/like Daima more power to you, but I'm starting to hate it...
we had 7 episodes with almost nothing interesting happening, we had 1 good episode, and then this?
we are on episode 9 of 20, we are half way into the series and it feels barely anything happen, we had 1 good episode and then right back to pointless, not just that, but the most boring one too!
and for the love of God, I DONT WANT TO HEAR THE WORD "SHIP" ON THIS FRANCHAISE EVER AGAIN, I'm SICK OF IT, STOOOP!

Oh yeah, I forgot to talk about Majin Kuu's design.
Right, he's ugly. Y'know, if I didn't know any better, I'd say he almost looks like he was meant to be some unholy magical scientific abomination created from Buu's and Saibaman's DNA, or something!
Anyway, Daima just don't miss.
100% agreed otherwise, though.

I prefer it over episode 7, myself. Better character interactions IMO, but also I find the Gargoyle and Werewolf chumps more amusing than the Gendarmerie.Rory wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 7:14 pm It's probably is the worst episode so far, but as long as Daima at least provides its bare minimum, I'm still entertained.
