Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 14 - Official Discussion Thread
Good episode.
I like the Gendarmerie Force. Their obsession with snacks and idiotic interactions with the Majin duo and convenience store guy are amusing by themselves, but also, I think those traits distinguish them enough from the Ginyu Force that the shared tokusentai theme is totally fine by me. That, and I'm just a sucker for super sentai shit in general.
Still love that we're seeing the party continue to bond and interact. Hybis's deadpan ass of all people telling Glorio that he's a good but gloomy guy got a chuckle out of me, and Piccolo's dynamic with Neva is more intriguing than ever. Panzy's reaction to Goku's, uhh... comically long fall was somehow endearing and a bit goofy at the same time.
We're also still getting a lot of social commentary about the history of suppression in the demon realm 14 episodes in, so I'm fully expecting to see that paid off in some way. Panzy's dialogue about her father not being all that wealthy or influential here felt like foreshadowing, and we know he's a fairly good natured dude. My bet is that King Kadan will succeed Gomah in the end.
Lastly, this reaffirms what I said about last week's episode being a one-off filler that you'll sometimes see popping up in shorter anime – particularly two cour shows. Even all the details about Warp-sama's deactivation were repeated as I thought they'd be, and Degesu turning off the switch didn't actually need to be shown on screen, so yeah, totally skippable. We're basically picking up right where episode 12 left off after they retrieved the second dragon ball.
Definitely setup for what's to come, but a fun one nonetheless. Now that we're in the final act, looks like we're kicking into high gear just next week.

"Oh I just finished today's episode I wonder what everyone else thinks."
*peers into thread*

I thought this was a stronger episode than the last one. Some good visuals, and some fun character interactions had me smiling. Yes, we're basically getting more Ginyu Force, but them marking out to their own entrance theme, followed by shooting up the entire place had me giggling. They're idiots, but they're my kind of idiots. I will say that them actually being chill towards THE BOYS Kuu and Duu was a nice touch.
A fun episode. Looking forward to next week's.

6/10 episode. I liked the interaction between Kuu and Duu and the Demon Force guys (I just wish they had more dynamic designs, assuming they’re actually meant to be relevant). I also liked the visuals from the portal being taken down.

Another boring ass episode.
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 14 - Official Discussion Thread
Last 5 episodes better be incredibly good, because the last 2 sure haven’t, and the rest of the show has been good, but not great.
120 minutes is more than a movie’s runtime so it should be enough, but I’m growing concerned. Hopefully they crammed all the spectacle, twists, and best moments there.

The episode went by pretty fast on a re-watch. Definitely stronger than 12 and 13.

Great episode!!
Good comedy between the new Gendermarie squad and Kuu & Duu, gonna make their eventual fight even more gut wrenching now.
But NEVA oh my I AM ALL IN ON NEVA STOCKS. This character, the depth, the mysteriousness all masked behind the gentle fun demeanor that only Toriyama could cook up. This character is so much of what I have been wanting from dragon ball in recent years, very much enjoyed his presence here.
And finally we are in the first world now and the fighting's already started, endgame time!!! Exciting:)

I don't know why the Daima staff thought it was a good idea to pay a half-baked homage to the Ginyu force, with Gomah having the same reaction Freeza did to them. You can't catch lightning in a bottle twice, fellas. I also don't like how problems get solved so easily. "Aww, Warp-Sama's down and there is an impenetrable light shield covering this hole. It's a good thing we have the guy who created it on our ship." They might as well leave warp operational. There is also zero tension at the end. We know our heroes will wipe the floor with those goons and their little pew-pew weapons. The only thing that excited me was the possibility of Dabura coming back because I really liked that character and felt he was wasted. Arinsu, please do something, your novelty is quickly wearing thin, same with the two majin children. Gomah is also not a threat. He's obviously not strong enough to take on a tamagami. Like, I get that this is an interquel, so the tension is very low, but this is beyond low stakes atp. With only 6 episodes to go, it isn't looking too good for Daima. 4/10

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 14 - Official Discussion Thread
Neva definitely is a plot device. Being able to make the dragonballs work when they are stone and summoning the dragon is crazy enough, but being able to do all of this on top of that would make him up there as one of the more powerful beings in the series; makes Babidi's magic seem like child's play.Noah wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 3:03 pm An episode that was a bit less slow than the previous one, but at least this one had some plot progression.
• So, not just because of Piccolo compliment, but can we confirm that Neva can almost do anything? I think it's too early to call him a "plot device" (even though today’s episode kinda showed that), but he's a Namekian who can not only create Dragon Balls but also super powerful guardians to protect them, boost their powers if needed, and even create shields to stop beings from moving between the different worlds in the Demon World? I’d say Freeza would've been toasted if Planet Namek had someone like Neva during his invasion
• Well, it wouldn’t be a new Dragon Ball series without a Ginyu Force reference, lol
• The scene with that squad with Kuu and Duu was cool, I was expecting something like them mocking the duo and that turning into a fight
• The ending of this episode and the NEP suggest that the next one will be pretty action-packed, so let’s hope so!
I wonder if Neva will fuse with Piccolo, but that will give Piccolo too much mystical abilities that we never see during Super since this is a prequel.

Am I the only one who likes Character Interactions? Or do people just want fighting all the time?
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 14 - Official Discussion Thread
I want less fighting and more character interactions that establish and flesh out characters in meaningful ways.Bardock God of Time wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 9:00 pm Am I the only one who likes Character Interactions? Or do people just want fighting all the time?

Character interaction is being quite sparse despite these 2 episodes being the calm, low key, break after the Tamagami fights.
The disappointing thing is that things feel too safe including interactions.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 14 - Official Discussion Thread
This was my favourite episode since Ocean. I've generally been enjoying Daima way less since the 2 groups met up together (and wish Vegeta was never a part of this story). When Daima focuses on comedy based on character interactions it really shines though imo. I loooved Kuu and Duu meeting the new Ginyu force guys in the store.
I'm also super the glad the ship is destroyed and BURNING in a pit of fire. HELL YES.
I really hope there's some cool revelatory stuff about Neva down the horizon that will recontextualize some of his scenes. Also hoping next episode isn't focussed too much on beating random mooks again.

Well, the two aren't mutually exclusive. And there's only been two major battles so far, so yes, I want more ASAP.Bardock God of Time wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 9:00 pm Am I the only one who likes Character Interactions? Or do people just want fighting all the time?
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 14 - Official Discussion Thread
People saying this episode is a filler and/or a set up episode... I think you have been watching too many netflix series and documentaries maybe. Daima is anime. It is slowed paced. It comes once a week. It moves towards a plot, but it is not going to get there as fast as a live action TV show would do it. There is no Daima manga, so there can't be filler episodes. Having said that, this was a slowed paced episode, with not much action but until the end.
I liked the Ginyu reboot hehe and their interaction with the kid majins. I had not considered them as children until now, I mean I was thinking they were teens, but I see they are way younger and it makes sense by the behavior they have been displaying so far.
Totally inlove with the opening and endings. I watch this show during my lunch time at work if I have the evening shift. It is a very great time.
Daima continues to be 7 + PG Rated and classy, very lovely: Thank you Toei Animation.
I will keep on watching it.

Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 14 - Official Discussion Thread
Count me in as also missing the character interactions. What's the point in expanding the cast of it's at this cost?
Re: Dragon Ball Daima: Episode 14 - Official Discussion Thread
Id say I prefer character interactions, but what's been so good in regards to them the last 2 episodes? One or two highlights per episode and mostly when Vegeta is involved despite how I also prefer the smaller group.fadeddreams5 wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 10:06 pmWell, the two aren't mutually exclusive. But from my observation, there have been plenty of delicate throughlines and seeds planted throughout this series for things I expect to capstone in the climax. How it's all going to culminate is anyone's guess, and I hope it does, but because we're watching a show that was originally exclusively a web/streaming series possibly intended for binge viewing in the first place, I'd caution against making any definitive declarations about twists and complete character arcs until the end.
We'll see. I will say that for as much as I've been enjoying Daima and its sense of adventure, personality and interactions, the payoff absolutely needs to be worth all this setup.

Not every episode needs to have action. Some episodes need to be slow, set the story, introduce the characters, and have some gags. I think a lot of haters are adrenaline junkies that need something to excite them. Instead, go to the gym.
