Goku as SEGA mascot?

Post by coola » Fri Nov 01, 2024 10:23 am

https://youtu.be/tTN6sHWKlKI?t=261 Apparently, SEGA planned to make Dragon Ball part of Sega Master System brand and Goku it's mascot, game later become Alex Kidd, it would be interesting if SEGA did managed to get DB license.

Interestingly enough, DBZ Buyuu Retsuden, DBZ Shin Butouden, and DBZ Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu are the only Dragon Ball games released on Sega consoles. Buyuu Retsuden is the only Dragon Ball game for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. Shin Butouden and Idainaru Dragon Ball Densetsu are the only Dragon Ball games for the Sega Saturn (the former is a Sega Saturn exclusive and the latter has also been released on the PlayStation).

Back to the topic of this thread, how would the Dragon Ball franchise be financially successful outside Japan if Sega had the DB license? I think video game companies don't license anime that isn't based on the original video games of a franchise.

And then came Sonic

It really is interesting given how Sonic often calls back to DB

Yeah, it would. Could you create an alternate time line where Sega did get the license?

Also, Goku Jr. had a Sega Saturn in the GT special:
