It wasn’t exactly perfect, but it was something. Gokuu and Jiren had an ideological clash. Jiren's ideology was rooted in his trauma and Gokuu's was rooted in his experiences. Gokuu kept trying to get stronger during the tournament and showed step-by-step improvement. Jiren kept shutting down anyone he saw as weaker in spirit than him. They clash and ultimately what defeats Jiren isn't Gokuu's individuality, but his ability to work with others to defeat Jiren, while Jiren is losing to the one thing he feared being vulnerable to—bonds with others. I think Super should have given all of the focus characters flashbacks to bolster their character arcs and save on the number of necessary action cuts, though. That was a major flaw there.perucho1990 wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 5:15 pmJulieYBM wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 5:10 pmI'm not going to write a dozen paragraphs explaining why tensionless fights combined with lore dumped that doesn't really reflect on the characters' arcs does not make for a good television series, but given that Daima has consistently been that across the series—gags intermixed along the way—it is hardly surprising that the last handful of episodes have been instep with those early episodes.Mr Baggins wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 4:57 pm ^ Except the fourth episode was great. The entire first half of the show was consistently great.
Daima still has enough time to provide some satisfactory payoff. We'll see if it succeeds.
I'm not doing a bit here, I just think that Daima sucks.
Did people forget about Goku vs Jiren in Super that was mostly carried by Goku unlocking both UI and MUI and the Ultimate Battle OST, this one in Daima seemingly will rely on next weeks episode whatever the "awakening" means (either new form or a fusion)
Also, that Kushida Akira song really is fuckin' awesome.
