Do you think there will be a Season 2 or a new Movie for Dragon Ball Daima?
So do you think there will be more animated projects for Dragon Ball Daima in the future like a Season 2 or a new Movie or they are just done with Daima?

I think Daima will be left as a standalone project out of respect for Toriyama. This was the most involved he got in a project in the past decade; he practically designed everything we saw on screen, and went as far as to check the script of each episode. I think making a generic follow up to it would be disrespectful to his memory. The Dragon Ball franchise is massive, with endless possibilities, they can afford to leave this part alone.

Who knows. If for whatever reason the Daima brand hits it big, Bandai might ask for more episodes to promote Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta merchandise. It really depends on whether or not all of the production committee members come together and agree.TheRed259 wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 8:52 pm So do you think there will be more animated projects for Dragon Ball Daima in the future like a Season 2 or a new Movie or they are just done with Daima?

Back in 2008 when Toriyama refused to take part in a pitched animated project, they dropped the whole thing in favor of Kai out of respect for him. I really hope they still have that same level of respect and realize that Daima is best left alone.JulieYBM wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 8:59 pmIt really depends on whether or not all of the production committee members come together and agree.

The original creator usually has the power to veto how his work is handled, so it's less "respecting Toriyama" and more "We will literally lose our partnership if we piss him off, so let's kowtow for a bit."Vegeta th3 4th wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 9:02 pmBack in 2008 when Toriyama refused to take part in a pitched animated project, they dropped the whole thing in favor of Kai out of respect for him. Now, they don't have to do that. They'll just ask whoever had that power to work with them for a new project.

Based on my understanding, people in Japan view manga authors very highly, so it may not be the smartest business move to continue something Toriyama was so involved with. There are other ways they can continue the franchise, I just don't think Daima is the right thing to continue.JulieYBM wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 9:07 pmThe original creator usually has the power to veto how his work is handled, so it's less "respecting Toriyama" and more "We will literally lose our partnership if we piss him off, so let's kowtow for a bit."

They will do whatever they feel like doing and agree to do, so I don't really see how it matters one way or the other. Dragon Ball Super is inevitably going to continue, so if they want to do more with Dragon Ball Daima, they will.Vegeta th3 4th wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 9:13 pmBased on my understanding, people in Japan view manga authors very highly, so it may not be the smartest business move to continue something Toriyama was so involved with. The franchise seemed like it was winding down after Super ended. It's been seven years and we've only had two movies, Heroes anime which also ended, and Daima. I imagine without Toriyama's involvement and how it was a major selling point that the franchise will release even less frequently now. Maybe another anniversary miniseries or movie every several years but that might be it.

Iyoko already confirmed that the series will continue with new projects for years to come.Skar wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 10:33 pmI imagine without Toriyama's involvement that the franchise will release even less frequently now.

It's unclear how many animated projects he's planning. I'm pretty sure they're aware that without Toriyama's name attached those projects won't be as successful.Vegeta th3 4th wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 4:10 amIyoko already confirmed that the series will continue with new projects for years to come.Skar wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 10:33 pmI imagine without Toriyama's involvement that the franchise will release even less frequently now.

Super proved that fans are willing to overlook and even defend many flaws as long as the original author's name is attached; that won't be the case moving forward. They're going to have to start putting out actually good products if they want to make $$$. Battle of Gods and Daima would be good blueprints to follow in how to make good DB in the modern era.Skar wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 8:53 amI'm pretty sure they're aware that without Toriyama's name attached those projects won't be as successful.

No more Daima.TheRed259 wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 8:52 pm So do you think there will be more animated projects for Dragon Ball Daima in the future like a Season 2 or a new Movie or they are just done with Daima?

That's why they'll have to market them better than "herp derp, Toriyama was involved" which is what any other animated project has to do.Skar wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 8:53 amIt's unclear how many animated projects he's planning. I don't think there will be a Daima season 2 or a new Dragon Ball Daima film unless either one of them is officially announced after production is finished (maybe after a few months or so) and ready for broadcast/release, but only if the Daima sub-brand is successful like Super.

Yeah they have to be good to at least have a chance and fans will be less forgiving without Toriyama's name attached. I'm curious to see how well they do and if the next movie grosses anywhere close to the Toriyama's scripted movies. I know some people mention more marketing but that's never a guarantee. Marketing helps more people know about the movie but they still need something to interest them enough to pay to see it. A few recent Hollywood flops have had marketing costs equal to or more than their budgets. I guess all that marketing helped them flop less badly but they still lost money.Vegeta th3 4th wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 9:01 amSuper proved that fans are willing to overlook and even defend many flaws as long as the original author's name is attached; that won't be the case moving forward. Iyoko said back in 2022 that he was talking to Toriyama about their next movie, which was a full two years before he passed. The next movie may indeed be a Toriyama written movie, at least in terms of an outline.Skar wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 5:22 pmI'm curious to see how well they do and if the next movie grosses anywhere close to the Toriyama's scripted movies.

Re: Do you think there will be a Season 2 or a new Movie for Dragon Ball Daima?
I would love it if they continued the Daima timeline with more ideas loosely inspired by GT. They did say Daima was for GT fans after all.
Like let's say they introduce a type of dragon ball with one ball in each of the twelve universes. They could make a story about exploring the twelve universes to find each dragon ball. Along the way they meet some sort of multiversal villain organization that is also looking for the dragon balls. Eventually they find out about earth and bring the conflict back there.
Then at some point the earth dragon balls are used. This causes them to crack open, paying off Old Kai's warning and setting up a grand finale with a reimagined version of the Shadow Dragons.
Also Vegeta totally needs to go SS4 at some point.
And hell, while we're at it, they could totally have Goku, Vegeta, and Broly (who would be introduced in this timeline a different way) do a three way fusion with the fusion bugs. Get ready for...Bogeku? Vebroku? Brogekarot? Volkarot? Eh they'll think of something.

Daima worked as well as it did because Toriyama was heavily involved with it, more so than he was with Super. I honestly don't know if I can trust them to keep the same level of quality in a hypothetical second season without him guiding them.Muffin Man wrote: Tue Mar 04, 2025 1:29 amI would love it if they continued the Daima timeline with more ideas loosely inspired by GT. Reboot/Re-imagining with a new voice cast. Gives them creative freedom.
