I think this is the ugliest cover so far. The usual anatomical issues will be analyzed by those who understand them better. Toyotaro has been working on the Dragon Ball manga for longer than Toriyama did in total, yet I don't see any significant improvement in his work. I’ve always found the Dragon Ball Super manga entertaining, but this franchise deserves a professional artist because this is just mediocre.

Cool idea for a cover, but this is easily one of the ugliest pieces Toyble has ever drawn. Their faces look so weird. Not good.
At least he gave Broly the correct hair color.

Yeah...that cover signifies everything I hated about what happened to the designs of the transformations with Super Hero/Granolah. All the forms introduced in that period are all big and over the top and monstrous.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
You can tell that Toyo-tarou has the same issue with drawing overly detailed drawings but ignoring how bodies work that a lot of American comic book artists have.
Get off the Marvel and DC, Toyo-tarou!

The Anti Black Frieza Squad
Mixed feelings on this, it's boring that they're just standing on a blank background like that, there's the usual toyotaro anatomy and muscles problems, the character look a little greasy thanks to the shine on their skin... But I do like the idea of this cover, all of the Super characters with their new forms. The forms look really menacing, ik some people might not like that, but as someone who has always loved more monstrous transformations since ssj3 (or since oozaru really to be more precise lol) I appreciate these new forms. It would be sick to see them all fighting together

That cover looks rough, however having all the main characters front and center like that makes me wonder if this is indeed the end of Super's manga.

Goku's face looks... different. But I like the idea. All the main warriors ready to fight with their strongest forms. Also, crazy to see Broly's green haired form in the manga.
I stand by this: Orange Piccolo looks amazing.Jack Bz wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 9:30 amYeah...that cover signifies everything I hated about what happened to the designs of the transformations with Super Hero/Granolah.

It could also be a tease for what's to come if we're optimistic, depends how you look at it. We know this is most likely going to be the squad that fights black frieza if we get there.Vegeta th3 4th wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 11:07 am That cover looks rough, however having all the main characters front and center like that makes me wonder if this is indeed the end of Super's manga.
His hairline also looks a little off to me. Idk why exactly but something's not rightBernardoCairo wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 11:15 am Goku's face looks... different. But I like the idea. He looks more like a regular person than Goku in this piece, at least to me.PhantomSaiyan wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 11:22 amHis hairline also looks a little off to me. Idk why exactly but something's not right

I hope so, as it would be very unfortunate for Super to last this long only to get cancelled on what may have been planned as its final arc.PhantomSaiyan wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 11:22 amIt could also be a tease for what's to come if we're optimistic, depends how you look at it. Counterpoint: This cover fucks.
And yes, you can see US superhero book influence for sure.
Also...is this the last volume? It kind of matches the contents of the volume, but it also seems like a very holistic kind of image to go out on.

I think the joke in all of this is that nobody knows yet.Cipher wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 1:29 pm Also...is this the last volume? It kind of matches the contents of the volume, but it also seems like a very holistic kind of image to go out on.
In the latest V Jump, they still listed it as a hiatus...
Re: "Dragon Ball Super (Manga)" Official Discussion Thread
There's no indication that it's the last volume. We keep being told that there will be more Dragon Ball Super manga coming at some point. I imagine that they're just waiting for an appropriate amount of time to pass before they start it up again.Cipher wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 1:29 pm Counterpoint: This cover fucks.

The question I think we should be asking ourselves is what we're gonna be seeing on the undersleeve cover. If it's all of Super's past villains in a group, then yeah, it's more homage to all that came before than a sign of the next story arc.Vegeta th3 4th wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 11:07 am That cover looks rough, however having all the main characters front and center like that makes me wonder if this is indeed the end of Super's manga.
If it's Black Frieza, well, that would certainly be some shit. I'd have no idea what to make of it.

This is a very good point. If either of these happen, then we should have an idea about the series' future so hopefully they don't take too long to reveal it.Mr Baggins wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 1:46 pm The question I think we should be asking ourselves is what we're gonna be seeing on the undersleeve cover. Hopefully that cover is a sign of things to come.
I want all 5 of them to be major characters.

Is that actually confirmed to be the cover art and not just a random promotional piece? The style feels... at odds with basically every other cover, composition.wise.
Agreed with the previous post about hoping all five of them are major players in the next arc though. I really want both Broly, Gohan and Piccolo (and also the surviving Gamma, for that matter) to play a big role in the Black Freeza arc or whatever is next. Super has generally had a bit of a problem of introducing characters and concepts only to kinda abandon them, and especially with Broly I would hate for that to happen again seeing how both his own movie and Super Hero heavily hinted that his story was not done.

Except for Goku's face (which might just be the result of Toyotaro choosing to have the bang of Goku's hair standing so we can see his face) and something about Vegeta that I still can't put my finger on it (not his whole drawing, just something), I think the art is perfectly fine. Piccolo, Broly and Gohan look good.
I guess Toyo saw how popular fanarts with all of them together are and decided to make an official version of it. I like the idea

This is my biggest hope is the Fab 5 (old ncaa basketball reference) all play a major role in this black frieza arc. I really need to arc to start soon lol.

I have no doubt these 5 will all play crucial roles in the story; I just hope Toyotaro manages to stick the landing with it. This will not only likely be Super's final story arc, it will be the final story that Toriyama had any involvement with. Toyotaro has been hit or miss for the most part, so hopefully this will be a hit.DBFanGuy wrote: Thu Mar 06, 2025 9:34 pmThis is my biggest hope is the Fab 5 (old ncaa basketball reference) all play a major role in this black frieza arc.
