Was there a place to fit another arc between Granolah and Super Hero?

Post by Benjamin-Simons-91 » Sat Mar 08, 2025 4:25 pm

I think that the timeline has issues, since it's unclear whether Granolah happened on Age 780 or Age 781; and the Super Hero story from the Prequel (including the One Shot of Chapter 104) to finish isn't clear on its exact timing either (Age 782-783 or just Age 783 start to end).

Ages aside, it teally should have happened. I pity how Toyotaro clearly needed lots of mental gymnastics to even connect Super Hero to the previous two manga arcs, and that's why a shonen should never write arcs out of order (not without the very careful consideration on continuity Toroyama didn't give a crap about, or Toei as well going by Daima).
English is not my first language. Please excuse my gramatical mistakes.

They can do whatever they want in that regard, so I don't see why they can't write an arc that better sets up Gokuu, Broli and Vegeta training together as they do during Super Hero. I want to see a Broli POV arc where he tries to find Bah and repair his bond with him.

Judging by Pan's age it could be like this:
779 Born (with Videl pregnant in August (?) 778 at Bulma's birthday party, likely born late May/June?)
She starts kindergarden from age of 3, meaning possible middle Age 782
3 months later Hedo gets free, another 6 month SH main plot
So SH is likely in early 783
784 May: 4 years old (but likely soon to be 5)

Assuming Moro still starts in late 780 and goes into 781, Granolah could be from 781 to 782.
The timeskips within the Granolah arc were quite vague:
Few days, few months, 2x2 days, few weeks, "some time passed", 18 days.

The "few months" could be like 3-4 months and "some time passed" even more.

Overall, of course there was time arcs can happen within a day if needed.
Ages aside, it teally should have happened. A very good point. But given the uncertainty about timeframes he had from Broly to Super Hero he probably purposely kept in vague.
If possible, Toyotaro would have certainly liked to add "Age" numbers, as he did so for past events before.

Movie 15 contains a six-month timeskip. If you factor that in following what you said, the battle against Freeza takes place in December, which is unlikely because you still have to cram Universe 6 saga and Future Trunks saga in AGE 779 as well.

I think you probably refer to the time Frieza trained, that was actually only 4 months.
So let's say there Frieza was revived in June, the main plot of the movie then could be in October.
And U6 and Goku Black can still work for Nov/Dec.
(not saying that this has been planned out  )

Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' indeed has the "6 months ago" line by Piccolo when he's talking about the wish that revived Frieza upon his invasion on Earth.

Following this, we can deduce that Pan's birth date is around May, the fact her parents left her with Piccolo means she's about 1 month old in June of Age 779, and the final showdown in this movie will indeed be in December of that year.

DBS have no such saying, and it seems that the whole bout with Frieza in this arc took part 4 months after he was revived, in October of Age 779, letting the Universe 6 Tournament Arc to take place in November of Age 779 and the Zamasu Arc to be in December of Age 779.

As already mentioned, there is a gap of six months between summoning Shenlong and Freeza's arrival on Earth. We can only assume that the extra two months is the time Freeza took to go from Earth to his training location and then back again.

A simple solution is to change some things, like Bulma's birthday, which does not need to take place in August, move it to be a little earlier in AGE 778 in order to better accommodate Movie 15, its six-month timeskip, Universe 6 saga and Future Trunks saga in the following year without having to cram anything.

Ok, indeed Piccolo said that. But it was "about half year" which can also work as a little bit shorter of course.
Like if you say such a phrase like that in real life, it also works for 4-5 months.

But also not too early in 778 as Pans birthday cannot be before May.
(Age 4 on May 7th 784, but born in 779)

There's like a Year Time skip between Gas death and Gamma 2 attacking piccolo

Could they fit an arc / movie plot between them? Yes

In Toriyama's original manga, the daily lives of the protagonists were interrupted by exceptional situations every few years: the worst thing about DBS was to make villains appear all the time one after the other.
I'm glad they haven't shoehorned in more trash in between this last stage.

We have nearly a year time skip between Black freeza introduction and the Cell Max battle

It could work for a major arc or a mini arc

The Super manga timeline is already a bit of a conundrum when you factor in Trunks and Goten's ages and school years. To explain: Goten is a first year high schooler -- meaning he started school in April at age 15 (going off of the Japanese school system which is what Toriyama and Toyotaro would be used to + Gohan starting school in April himself.). Since we know Goten was born in Age 767, but after April (specifically after May 26th), he would only be 15 by April in Age 783, so that's when the high school arc of the manga would begin -- in April of 783. But, as mentioned in the thread already, there is a nine-month timeskip before the events of Super Hero (three months for Hedo's prison sentence and then a half-a-year timeskip -- this isn't a translation error, the JP text is "半年後"). If the Super Hero school prequel is in April of 783, and then there's a nine-month timeskip, we would be in January of 784 -- but Piccolo specifically says Pan is 3 after this timeskip, which she couldn't be in Age 784, so... yeah, it's confusing. You could headcanon that Trunks and Goten go to a western-style school which started in, I don't know, September of 782, but it's a bit of a hard-sell.

Frankly, this condensing of events into the ten-year timeskip is getting annoying and confusing -- at least in my eyes. Just do End of Z and then have Black Freeza or whatever new villain show up and continue from there, with Goku needing to postpone Oob's training or give him training through actual experience. That sounds like a nice way to continue things to me, but who knows if that's what will happen, especially when factoring in that supposed new movie Iyoku teased a few months back.

(Was this post mostly made so that I could info-dump that timeline inconsistency which has been bugging me? ...Maybe.)

It doesn't help that fans also get things mixed up, sometimes. For example, contrary to popular belief, Dragon Ball Super Super Hero takes place in AGE 782. There is absolutely nothing suggesting the movie takes place in AGE 783 (or in any other year, for that matter). This is sure to be the case due to Pan's age, which is stated to be three (AGE 782 - 3 = AGE 779, her birthyear).

The movie could take place in AGE 783, but we would need to have some sort of hint, like a "Pan's fourth birthday is coming soon" statement, or something to that effect. We don't have any of that, so for now the year prior to that is the only one available. Most of the things that happen prior to the main events of the movie can occur in AGE 781, at some point after Granolah saga. With the six-month timeskip and the rest of the movie being in AGE 782.

Pan cannot be or turn three in AGE 783 if she is supposed to turn five at some point after the 28th tournament, unless she passes very quickly through her fourth year of life. Remember, she was born in AGE 779 (Bra is the one supposed to be three years old in this year, as she is a year younger than Pan).
