Chapter: 265 (DBZ 71), P2.5-7
Context: Kuririn explained to the Great Elder how the child of Katatz came to be on Earth.
Great Elder: “You speak as though the child died… Was it old age…? Or was he killed…?”
Kuririn: “Killed. By a Saiyan called Vegeta…who’s here right now…”
Great Elder: “By a Saiyan…? It is true that Saiyans are terrible, but…but to have killed that prodigy of the Dragon Clan… …Is it possible that he was…a Super Saiyan…?”
So, The Grand Elder knew of The Saiyans and the legend of The Super Saiyan - question is, how did they know about it? The Legend of The Super Saiyan took place before The Sadala Civil War, which had to have happened some time after Yamoshi awakened. The tale of The Legendary Super Saiyan is known by The Namekians and even has been written down in their book of legend. The Namekians are known as a race that travels and settles on various different worlds - is it likely that The Namekians visited or perhaps even coexisted with The Saiyans of Sadala? Whether The Saiyans they came across were good or evil makes no difference - The Saiyans wouldn't have a reason to kill them or harm them - a warrior race, albeit not absolutely barbaric like them people on Planet Barbari.
Or could it be as simple as The Saiyans having some primordial connection to the demon realm? It can't be a mere coincidence.

At the very least they seem to have a connection to the Namekians. There are also other things that you hadn't mentioned. What you both say leads me to think that it would make sense if there is some series bible that (at least vaguely) establishes some deeply ancient connections between these two peoples. Not having the Saiyans be from the Demon Realm in Daima felt like a missed opportunity in that regard. Sure, it might shrink the world, but it's already kind of small now in that way given the many connections that already exist. I doubt we'll get anything explicit in this regard going forward, though, especially with Toriyama having passed. But it could be a ripe avenue to explore for fanfiction.Makaioshin wrote: Fri Feb 14, 2025 2:54 pmAs for the new SSJ4, I have no real issue with how it looks. Neva just being able to awaken it easily in Goku is just how things happen in this show. Characters reveal they always could have done these things and it just never came up. It is so strange that I do wonder if it tied to old Namekian and Saiyan connections that kind of existed in the original but barely. The legend of Slug and the Super Saiyan, the Elder knowing of SSJ, the DBS Namekian Book of Legends and SSJ God, and even that background from Evolution all paint a picture of some ancient links between these races. Or maybe Neva can just do that.
Re: Namekian and Saiyan Connection
I agree. Giving everything that's established, do you think Toyotaro is currently keeping up with all information in Dragon Ball and missed opportunities to make for better story arcs down the line? He loves Dragon Ball just as much as any of us do and with Toriyama's passing, I don't think he would want to disappoint him in any way, shape or form - his best work is yet to be seen, I feel like. As long as he keeps honing his own skills as a Mangaka and figuring out ways to tie things together could make for a promising future in Dragon Ball Super given all of this free time he currently has.Zephyr wrote: Fri Mar 21, 2025 12:06 pmAt the very least they seem to have a connection to the Namekians.
