Why does Kanzenshuu have a bad rep within the fanbase?
How come Kanzenshuu has a bed rep within the English-speaking DB fanbase? I've been on this site for nearly a year and it has since become my favorite Dragon Ball website. Its emphasis on the Japanese side of Dragon Ball is one of the reasons why I like this site so much. I don't understand why people would think this website sucks.

That's probably part of it. Lotta people seem to think of this place as some sinister cabal of subbie elitists, which is comically untrue.TechExpert2021 wrote: Tue Jan 28, 2025 3:35 pmIts emphasis on the Japanese side of Dragon Ball is one of the reasons why I like this site so much.
Beyond that, I don't know. It would probably depend on which person you asked. I'm sure everyone's got their own grievances with this place, some valid, others not so much.

The emphasis on the Japanese side of Dragon Ball is why I still post on this forum than any other DB place. I think some people think that Daizenshuu/Kanzenshuu EX is filled with snobs that look down on the dub which is probably why.

I look down on the Italian dub, and for good reason. I'm happy to share this safe haven with other people who know what they're talking about, I don't know many hardcore Dragon Ball fans in real life.

As has been said, its the misconception that Kanzenshuu is a sub purist's paradise, which isn't helped by the fact the mods have routinely gone out of their way to say they will never watch the dub on principle because it's not the original version.
Conversely, I'm happy that over the years this site has become more dub-friendly, as I love the Japanese version but also get a lot of joy from discussing different versions of the series.

Is all this supposed bother just about the open Japanese version emphasis? I would hope these folks are on the younger side, then, because we're long past Mike spot-checking a Funimation dub track and asking "What happened to acting?" on the podcast. I could understand, say, being suspicious of any one group of people have gathered and translated so much franchise information that then spreads across the internet. But when those people are buying publicly-available stuff, making their translations coherently presented and available for free, and wait a decade after the site fusion to open a Patreon, well that's pretty damn swell for a franchise his huge.
