It's beat for beat very similar, and taking in consideration this would be the third derailing of the tournament it's a joke that it's even going on still.

And the worse is that it relies not on hubris from the protagonists, pride, thirst for vengeance but just plain stupidity or obliviousness from the good guys and everyone with an ounce of power to be able to stop this madness from even happening in the first place.

How can XXI who's clearly dishonorable and a fucking villain and everyone saw that against ghast be allowed to just keep getting away with being a weirdo without alarms sounding from everywhere on the good side??? In the original run Piccolo and Goku would be literally all over him and spooked by his presence to say the least because he's fucking evil lol, but they are all completely blasé considering they have a lot of dragon balls and everything can go wrong and already did almost go wrong TWICE due to sheer incompetence from everyone.

This is complete ass, it ends like a whimper, what the hell.

All Budokai tournaments we had on the original manga were bangers, hell, the ToP from super is a banger in itself, tournaments is what Dragon Ball and Toriyama did best, to have so much shit, detours, revolutions and for it to end like this? Goku vs Roshi, Goku vs Tenshihan, Goku vs Ma Junior, all amazing fights full of drama and with an story to tell, and for this bullshit we get this.

Now it's time for Bra to come and save the day, my god, the best characters done completely dirty, bullshit power scaling used to "make sense" in universe, for no reason at all because the end is this.

Making Goku look bad in order to prop up a new character has been going on for well over a decade now, so this isn't anything new. One thing Daima got perfectly right was its portrayal of Goku as the martial arts Genius he was known for in the original manga.

Well its official now. Salagir is a bad closer that had a great artist during a time where we were in a Dragonball drought.

The stroy started off strong because it gave us all the what ifs battles we wanted to see as fans but once that was over the stroy dragged on and Salagir I guess didn't uave enough steam in the tank to stick the landing.

I've seen people in the comments saying "What could Goku even do to XXI anyways, if Gast couldn't do anything?", and to that, I say: Why didn't XXI just use his true form to overwhelm Goku and everyone prior instead of making wishes to easily defeat all of his opponents? Why all the time, effort, and subterfuge if XXI could just win by consuming challengers before they could give up, as killing is not against the rules? Does he think that the U1 Kaioshin won't grant him his wish if they know that he's an eater of worlds? The Kaioshin invited a series of fighters that are all planet, solar system, and even galaxy destroyers(as seen with U20 Broly), would inviting a guy who likes to eat all life in a universe suddenly make them reconsider giving him a wish when they have only gotten rid of people who have broken the tournament rules thus far?
I think XXI has a limit or limits that he has been strategically hiding, and the reason he makes wishes is that he couldn't last long enough through a tournament to actually beat everyone with his true form. He might be living on borrowed time or is in danger of something being past his control, and so his true form isn't the answer to everything, just a potential way to finish off an opponent after making them lose enough power.
I think an actual fight between Goku & XXI could've been interesting if it had played out, but it seems the story is just moving forward to the post-matches arc because it needs to be wrapped up.
