How would you organize a manga, anime and movie view list to capture the 80s/90s?
How would you organize a manga, anime and movie view list to capture the 80s/90s?
I'm talking about going through Dragon Ball, Z and GT, the manga, anime and movies concurrently with each other based on the chapters, episodes and film events so that, for example, when you finish reading Goku and Piccolo versus Raditz, you watch the same part of the story until the end, and then the Garlic Jr. movie for a similar tone and feel, not only because it may have been released around the same time, but also due to the background story for his arc after Freeza's. The idea is to capture the 80s/90s in different media by an order that is not necessarily chronological (good luck fitting the movies), but allows you to take a break from just reading the manga or watching the anime, and interperse them with each other until you can move on to the next part. Perhaps I should choose the original Japanese release dates by checking them on this website

I'd mostly just go by the original airdates
(no manga for me)
Dragon Ball (1986–1989)
Dragon Ball (1986–1989)
- Episodes 1–43 – Pilaf to early Red Ribbon
- Curse of the Blood Rubies (Dec 20, 1986) – parallels the first arc with a film twist
- Episodes 44–70 – Emperor Pilaf / Turtle Hermit arc
- Sleeping Princess in Devil’s Castle (Jul 18, 1987) – fits middle DB feel
- Episodes 71–118 – Red Ribbon & Tournament arcs
- Mystical Adventure (Jul 9, 1988) – bridges end of Red Ribbon to early Piccolo
- Episodes 119–153 – Piccolo Jr. to DB finale
- The Path to Power (Mar 4, 1996) — a beautiful recap of the entire original series with the GT score
- Episodes 1–11 – Saiyan arrival / Raditz part
- Dead Zone (Jul 15, 1989) – feels like an expanded Raditz storyline
- Episodes 12–39 – Vegeta & Nappa, Namek prep
- The World’s Strongest (Mar 10, 1990) – comedic filler after Saiyan crisis
- Episodes 40–54 – Namek build‑up
- The Tree of Might (Jul 7, 1990) – parallels training/pre-Frieza escalation
- Episodes 55–63 – Continue Namek
- Bardock – The Father of Goku (Oct 17, 1990) – back‑story before Frieza
- Episodes 64–81 – Frieza arc
- Lord Slug (Mar 19, 1991) – tone close to early Frieza arc
- Episodes 82–99 – Frieza arc conclusion
- Cooler’s Revenge (Jul 21, 1991) – post‑Frieza
- Episodes 100–130 – Android/Cell build‑up
- The Return of Cooler (Mar 7, 1992) – sci‑fi filler during Android downtime
- Episodes 131–147 – Cell arc
- Super Android 13! (Jul 11, 1992) – blends Android themes
- Episodes 148–151 – Build before Cell Games
- Special: History of Trunks (Feb 24, 1993) – post-Cell future arc
- Episodes 152–175 – Cell Games completion
- Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan (Mar 6, 1993)
- Episodes 176–193 – Buu build arc
- Bojack Unbound (Jul 10, 1993) – high‑school tournament filler
- Episodes 194–208 – Continue Buu build
- Broly – Second Coming (Mar 12, 1994) – post‑Buu filler
- Episodes 209–226 – Continue Buu
- Bio‑Broly (Jul 9, 1994) – more silly Buu-era filler
- Episodes 227–248 – Buu arc continues
- Fusion Reborn (Mar 4, 1995) – Buu-era movie
- Episodes 249–291 – Buu arc conclusion
- Wrath of the Dragon (Jul 15, 1995) – final theatrical Z film of the era
- GT Episodes 1–64 – follow full GT run after Z
- Special: A Hero’s Legacy (Mar 26, 1997) – even though this aired after episode 41, it's a fitting TV special closure

That is exactly what I needed, PrinceVegetto. Great effort! However, I think that I'm going to include The Path to Power at the end, because it uses GT animation and it may feel more nostalgic to go back to the beginning after a while. Now I'm going to try to find the missing movies and episodes to prepare a runthrough and teach the value of waiting for the next chapter or episode and movie.
