The commercial in question. The statement from

Obviously, I'm going off of a machine translation here, but lol, this statement does not provide much in the way of confidence.
The production staff from Toei Animation are not credited.

I hate how the word AI has been adopted, it obfuscates the fact that not all AI tech is generative AI.
Dragon Ball was always a kid series and fans should stop being in denial.

As long as it's licensed, I don't see any problem with it.

Many studios have been saying for the past year or so that they're looking forward to using AI in their series, so short commercials seems to be the logical place to start with. As time goes on, more and more projects will start relying on it more to cut costs down. I obviously don't know this for sure, but I have a bad feeling that Daima will be the last Dragon Ball project to be fully handled by an actual staff of people.

I’m not necessarily opposed to AI being used as a tool by artists to help make their jobs a bit easier, but the prospect of replacing actual working humans with this crap is just depressing. Sadly, garbage like Veo 3 has made this more likely than ever.

Same here. I think as a tool, it can make the job performance of workers more efficient, but that's not what's been happening. Microsoft fired around 9000 workers yesterday, on top of the 6000 or so they fired back in May. The reason ? a good number of those jobs and functions are being allocated to AI instead. The US' budget bill makes it illegal for individual states to regulate AI, which should give you an idea about where things are headed moving forward. I remember "state rights" being a big dead during the Row V. Wade case last year, so much for that.

The quality of animation in that commercial was honestly really really nice. Looks both modern and 90s at the same time. If a new Dragon Ball series looked like that I would be stoked.
But now I'm actually confused. Was it made with AI? Is it some sort of upscale of the original anime?

No, it’s made by actual people.

Only something as beautiful as this could make me post again. Love it. Truly looks like a modern version of DBZ!
It was done by Daima staff and the animator is confirmed to be Shun Sawai. One of the best recent additions we got to DB family.
Seems like they have been testing the waters for a Dragon Ball remake.
Kubota will to do it, Super Hero 2D recap scenes, Buu arc flashbacks in Daima, new voice actors for the main cast...
Hopefully the higher ups put their shit together and good stuff is happening behind the scenes.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.
Favourite old DB Animators: Masaki Sato and Tadayoshi Yamamuro
Favourite new DB Animators: Yuya Takahashi and Chikashi Kubota

This level of remake would require it to be seasonal, which is thankfully the direction most anime are going in nowadays.

Cygames did the subs for that anime, not Crunchyroll. Certain anime on Crunchyroll have subtitles done by the original Japanese anime rights holder, like Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Daima.
Crunchyroll's in-house subtitles use Trebuchet MS for the subtitle font, and if I remember correctly, they are still human-made. The only thing Crunchyroll uses AI for is their in-house closed captions for their dubs.

It's a shame that this is just an A.I. shilling ad because that looks incredible.
We need a Steve Simmons' re-translation of the manga.

It looks like to be animated by AI as well
