Why didn't Roshi have senzu beans?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Why didn't Roshi have senzu beans?

Post by Yasai9001 » Sun Jul 27, 2025 10:31 am

Considering that Roshi had known Korin years before Goku ever did, how come Roshi didn't have his own senzu beans? Or never brought it up? What IN-UNIVERSE explanation could any of you have for Muten Roshi not having any Senzu Beans? Did he eat it all? Maybe Korin wasn't growing them at the time? Or maybe Korin didn't feel like he needed it.

I assume the Sacred Land of Korin has a specific type of soil that can facilitate the growth of the beans which Roshi would not have access to in abundance. Of course he could have maybe borrowed a whole jar of those beans, but he would have no reason to carry that around when Korin already had them for anyone who would be in a position to really need them in a dire situation like King Piccolo or the Saiyans.

Great point; one would think that Roshi would have some left on standby (in-universe), but considering how long he's lived and how lazy he can be at times, I'm sure he's spent time popping senzus to satisfy his hunger and other "urges" to keep him going. Thank you for helping put that into perspective. And it's likely the case with the soil, and could be that Korin was struggling back then to grow them more than he does currently; agriculture isn't an easy, one two three thing to do

As far as we know, he wasn't partaking in any battles before the start of Dragon Ball. He also had his own methods of staying healthy (alive, in his case). So, I don't think he needed them.
Roshi was the strongest on the entire planet. Who could even hurt him back then?
Just sit here and waste your precious time. When you want to do something, don't do it right away. Don't do it when you can. Read my posts instead. It's the only way to live a life without regrets.

I always assumed that Roshi did not know they existed.

Even if he knew Karim, etc. it was a matter of just not knowing about the beans itself.
