New Texas law and a preemptive/reactionary Dragon Ball manga removal

Give that a read. Interesting stuff. Will the blue bricks and VIZ manga volumes be the last ever fully uncut release of Dragon Ball in the states?

Akira Toriyama the first sentient AI.
Re: New Texas law appears to make DB illegal
A single store took books off of the shelves preemptively. I think bills like this really do forced people into censorship through just the threat of the idea, which I think is a major issue.

There is a big difference between nudity and porn. People will see a scene of nudity and scream "PORN"!!

Well, at least the nudity ban is understandable. There were calls to ban Osamu Tezuka's Unico because a character was violent to another character. in the 2020s!

That’s always the idea. Calling those panels "porn" is a disservice to people's intelligence. Ridiculous.
Just sit here and waste your precious time. When you want to do something, don't do it right away. Don't do it when you can. Read my posts instead. It's the only way to live a life without regrets.
Re: New Texas law appears to make DB illegal
We live in a world where if you lie really loudly for long enough you can convince the entire country to harm minority groups, so I'm really not surprised that they're going after sex workers and art even harder than before now. This is how they get what they want.
Re: New Texas law appears to make DB illegal
Also probably should address. The Viz manga had been getting more censored as it went along LONG before this. First with them adding more soap to Buruma’s shower scene then painting a black bra on her for the infamous Operation: bloody nose to expose Invisible Man gag. Then later stuff like using Hercule for Mr.Satan ala Funimation and removing 17’s gun he had pointed at the old man. But at least in those cases it was censorship decided on by the company to keep Dragon Ball stocked in shelves and not government imposed censorship.PacificOceanDub wrote: Tue Sep 30, 2025 11:50 am https://icv2.com/articles/news/view/606 ... n-1-stolen

The Blue Bricks have been out of print for a while now and it doesn’t seem like Funimation has any interest in any sort of new release of the 86 anime. Even with the 40th anniversary coming up in 5 months.

Is it bad that this is tragic to me? Like, seriously ungrateful and petty behaviour by a Nepo Baby company. An entire series that defined more than one generation is out of print because it didnt have kewl seiyens pew pew pew.

The Blue Bricks are still in print and dirt cheap now. Probably worth buying now for any North American fans that haven't done so before Crunchyroll re-releases them with their branding and an extortionate price tag like they did with GT.Yellow Flower King wrote: Thu Oct 02, 2025 7:06 pm The Blue Bricks have been out of print for a while now and it doesn’t seem like Funimation has any interest in any sort of new release of the 86 anime. Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

I don't blame him. Better safe than sorry.
I guess this will lead to more stores doing it but the law's the law. People vote for a reason.

A number of the reviews on that link complained about scratches and the disc freezing and some of them just straight up not working. So uh probably pre-owned dvds or bootlegs.Dragon Ball Ireland wrote: Fri Oct 03, 2025 4:34 amThe Blue Bricks are still in print and dirt cheap now. Crunchyroll’s own store is selling season three and only season three and claiming there’s only a few left

Jeez, these sets are weird.
Re: New Texas law appears to make DB illegal
Yeah, I’m not sure why Funimation decided on those 30/31 episode splits for the 86 anime’s boxset release instead of doing a split by sagas like they did for Z. “Season Three” picks up in the middle of Son Goku’s training with Karin and ends after the quarter finals of the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai.JulieYBM wrote: Fri Oct 03, 2025 9:21 am"You only get the DVD with the sexpest on the cover!! Re: New Texas law appears to make DB illegal
It's really weird. I imagine they wanted each set to feel 'even' for the price they would be charging, but...this is just really bad? Kind of like their packaging and basically anything else about the presentation of this DVD and their DVDs in general once we entered the season set era of their releases.MasenkoHA wrote: Fri Oct 03, 2025 10:12 amYeah, I’m not sure why Funimation decided on those 30/31 episode splits for the 86 anime’s boxset release instead of doing a split by sagas like they did for Z.
The weird split on episodes and respective arcs goes all the way back to the original syndication broadcast: Volume 8 ("Showdown") of what was later classified as "The Saiyan Conflict" had (dubbed/edited) episodes 23-25... despite 26 being the clear end of that arc (and the actual final episode of that actual broadcast season).
I suppose at the time you could make the argument for them not really caring about the broadcast seasons, just running tapes through, and everything (other than the specially-edited "Arrival" debut VHS) aaaallllll having only three episodes (until they got to the end again and had to cram four on)...
But yeah, that's just part of the weird legacy here.
Anyway, going to adjust the title on this thread, since that's simply untrue.
