Super Saiyan 2 Appreciation Thread

It would've been great if Super Saiyan 2 could have made an appearance in Dragon Ball Super Broly and Dragon Ball Super Super Hero. The artstyles of those movies would definitely deliver us some great visuals of that form. I'm not really expecting it but there's Dragon Ball Daima to look forward to in that regard.

Gotenks also has Super Saiyan 2 but I still haven't found anyone playing as him so that we see if there's any difference.

Since that post, I played Dragon Ball Heroes World Mission. One of the first things I rushed to check was if there's any difference between Gotenks' Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2, unfortunately there is none.

But hey, we did get a "new" Super Saiyan 2 Gohan!



Although I prefer the hairstyle in the cards, where it isn't a straight-up copy of present Gohan's hairstyle. Still, better this than no difference at all like in Shin Budokai 2.

Man, I'm so happy with the love SSJ2 has been getting from recent DB media. For a transformation that didn't even have a name until Goku showed it to Boo and Babidi back in 1994, which after Movie 9 (1993) was ignored in other movies that could've totally featured it (10, 12, 13), and in GT (1997), aside from a small cameo, it was completely ignored too.

But luckily, years later (2015), not only did we get to see Goku test himself as SSJ2 against Beerus, but also SSJ2 Vegeta going all out after Bulma was hit. And the following year (2016), Future Trunks showed he could use SSJ2 as well, and SSJ2 Goku tested himself again against another opponent. Not to mention, Caulifla being more known for her SSJ2 form and Cabba managing to transform during the Tournament of Power and SSJ2 Kefla in the same arc (2017).
Now, in the current year (2024), we not only get the joy of seeing Goku in this form again with the classic lightining aura sound effects, but also him defeating an enemy using it!

Oh boy, those are good times to be a Super Saiyan 2 enthusiast

I wish Nagamine could come in again and give those first three Super Saiyan forms their own little 'pros and cons' again like he did for Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Super: Broli. If we're going to be stuck with these forms just appearing to sell merchandise or whatever then at least make them more unique.

I wouldn't call myself an enthusiast, but I am happy to see Super Saiyan 2 being relevant again. Everything used to be 1, or 3 sometimes, before they decided to switch to the recolors, dropping the need to use the other forms at all. I always thought it was a waste that Super Saiyan 2 had only been usefully used by Gohan against Cell, so seeing Goku actually use it against the Tamagami was a really nice touch, it still is a powerful transformation as of now after all, maybe less than 3, but without its flaws. I can see it being used again in other Daima episodes, possibly by Vegeta as well.

I mean, Gohan fights Broly as a Super Saiyan 2. Goku uses Super Saiyan 2 in Movies 12 and 13, the former in a brief appearance and in the latter until he transforms into Super Saiyan 3. Pretty sure Vegeta is in Super Saiyan 2 to fight Janemba, I don't think there would be a reason to think otherwise, given the context.

I wonder if we will see Vegeta using Super Saiyan 2 in Dragon Ball Daima, seeing as how accurate they have been portraying it, it would be cool to see, under the right animation, the difference between his Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2 forms.

I didn't know where else to ask this. But I thought it would be good to ask here. Did Gotenks ever go super saiyan 2? It seemed to me that he went straight to stage 3 from the first super saiyan form. When he went super saiyan 3 and fought Super Buu.

Nope, Gotenks never used Super Saiyan 2 at all.

The fight between Goku and Vegeta in Super Saiyajin 2 is amazing and shows them at the peak of what a mortal can do without special training. Goku is fighting in his dead body, and Vegeta uses Babidi’s magic to level the playing field. Both are using this clean, sleek, and badass evolution of the Super Saiyajin form. It doesn’t really get much better than that.
