In order to continue DB's story in an authentic manner, Jump should create a Toriyama AI bot

In order to continue DB's story in an authentic manner, Jump should create a Toriyama AI bot

Post by Jord » Wed Nov 05, 2025 3:41 pm

This technology has advanced a lot. I'm not just talking about a simple ChatGPT, I'm talking about developing a specific AI bot. They can feed it all of the DB stories and designs he worked on. Not to mention interviews he did and interviews with colleagues and other people that knew him. That way they can create a solid bot that can continue the story. Of course, there will still be editors to redirect the story if needed but it would be a great way to continue the DB story for as long as Jump wants.

fuck that shit. there's nothing authentic about an artificial intelligence, because art is about one human communicating to another human.

This is a terrible idea. First for all the obvious "generative AI is fundamentally nothing but a theft machine that can't truly create anything" reasons.

But also because even the real Toriyama couldn't manage to churn out anything genuinely good for the franchise anymore, so why would a stupid plagiarism-bot drawing from his works be able to do any better? Modern DB is already bad enough with actual people recycling stuff from classic DB.

Now that I think of it, they could also train it to generate the accompanying panels, with Toyotaro correcting them where needed. That way you have the combination of the sci-fi and technology that Toriyama loved so much, without losing the human element.

That is why I'm talking about making a specific bot, just fed with Toriyama stuff.
As far as the real Toriyama losing quality, I feel he lost the feeling for what worked in his previous works. Toriyama had a notorious bad memory (which I wouldn't blame him for, since he had those crazy deadlines and needed to churn out more story), a bot wouldn't have that problem.

If all this "Toriyama AI bot" can come up with are retellings, tournaments as well as accepting suggestions from people to bring back the most unnecessary and boring characters from the past, then no, thank you.

You can really tell that people who want to rely on AI to create stories are soulless and lack any degree of curiousity about the world because they hate the very creative process itself.

Hell no.

Toriyama chose Toyotaro personally. Lots of people have an unjustified rage boner against the guy, but I'm willing to bet even most of them would choose a real human being over some stupid AI that can't even offer reliable information without hallucinating.

That's a terrible idea.

This kind of ragebait just doesn't suit the forum format

I'd argue that Toriyama was able to come up with some good ideas for new stories, such as BoG, Future Trunks arc, Moro and Granolah arcs. Of course, at the peak of Toriyama's writing, he was on a whole different level, but modern Toriyama was just as fun and engaging, barring a few exceptions. Unfortunately, some people just won't let go of the past and have created their own headcanon of what Dragon Ball should be instead. I've seen you complaining on Twitter, even going as far as to dismiss it entirely without any good explanation.

I'd argue that there was little difference between the Toriyama of the 1980s and 1990s and the Toriyama of afterward. The main difference is that being on a weekly schedule and having an editor to keep him disciplined and not just do whatever he said was what kept the original comic as sharp as it was. Around the time that Takeda took over as editor is when the edge really started to get dull on Toriyama. The fact that Toriyama didn't have to built a story brick-by-brick with each weekly chapter and just wrote general outlines or amateur-level scripts for the films goes to show that Toriyama—like any writerneeds someone to push back and offer different perspectives. When you have someone like Iyoku pushing the Dragon Ball Daima animated series crew to create the series "just like Toriyama!!!" and have everyone on staff kowtow to Toriyama, you are going to wind up with a worse product.

Something-something, nobody hates the people who make anime based on comics more than anime fans.

Let assume that this isn't ragebait and TC believes that it might be a good idea.

Even by some miracle someone is able to give every data that they know about Toriyama and what Toriyama wrote, that still wouldn't be enough. The one giving the data would need to know everything about Toriyama, how he thinks, how he gets imspiration, ideas, etc, which I believe it is not possible. AI isn't perfect, it can make mistakes.

There are things AI isn't able to replicate.

BoG the idea was new and fresh, it was good how they introduced SSG and the new deity. It is too bad the SSG Ritual was never used again, even when there was more than enough Saiyans to do it again on other Saiyans. Future Trunks arc was good, although there was no need to retcon Future Trunks appearance to never having purple hair and turning Goku into a huge clown. Goku being dumb got Future Trunks time line erased and made them do multiple time travel. DBS Super Hero was just way out of character for Goku.

DBS Manga luckily doesn't have the same flaws as the anime and they toned it down, which is good. Moro and Granolah arc was good.

I did enjoy Dragon Ball Daima, could it have been better? Yes, however I am fine with how Daima turned out. The only flaw I can mention is that they repeated way too much the ship getting destroyed and stolen.

How do you expect it to be authentic when there's no a real creative mind behind it? An amalgam of random ideas taken from internet and interviews wouldn't make an authentic story but low quality bullshit.

I try my best to avoid being completely dismissive of AI on a fundamental level. After all, technology is always evolving and there was a time when people scoffed at things like computer animation. With that said, this is a terrible idea.

It’s one thing for artists to use AI to help make their jobs less stressful and daunting, but using it to replace human artists altogether sounds pretty indefensible. There’s nothing “authentic” about having an algorithm pretend to be Akira Toriyama just so Shueisha and Toei or whoever can keep churning out stories with his name on it.

Computer animation actually requires skill and manual labor. It's not a proper comparison.

"Feed an AI bot a bunch of DB stories and have it output something!"
Some would say that's how the Super Manga was made.

Anyway, even if this wasn't a stupid idea, if you wanted this bot to be "authentic" you'd be feeding it the kind of art and media Toriyama consumed (ie: fuckton of kung fu movies, for instance), not the kind that DB fans consume (ie: DB).

But more to the point, if you wanted more actually-authentic DB, you'd have to bring Toriyama back to life and make him draw comics again. Good luck.

Kojima of Metal Gear Solid fame left his ideas in a pen drive so that inspiration can be drawn from them when he passes away.
Toriyama did not seem that concerned with his own property though. He was highly contributive in life and that's how I want to remember him.
