While I don't prefer a remake as the best case scenario, I'd still prefer it over Daima that only ran for 20 episodes and didn't have much of a plot. I'm guessing they're going to have a new voice cast too, since they already tried that with the Mini characters Daima, and maybe they're doing this as kind of a test-run (where they only have to worry about the animation/voice work and not the story) before moving on to new content where things would be much more difficult.
Also, I wonder if the reasoning behind making a remake is just another rights issue where continuing Toei's Dragon Ball Super is a big no-no but making something technically new is fine?
Given how old the cast is, I really don't see a point in doing a second adaption of the Super arcs with them, though.

No, manga stuff has been referenced before in Dragon Ball Heroes and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2: The Beerus and Champa fight; that Vegeta's technique (Gamma Burst, or something like that); that bit of dialogue where Goku and Vegeta keeps repeating "Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan"; Champa's ultimate move in XV2 comes from the manga, if I'm not mistaken, and probably there are more examples that I don't recall at the moment.Xeogran wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 3:42 pm Soo... That is the first direct reference to stuff from Moro saga, though. But I guess it will amount to just that, a reference, with a chance of the technique itself appearing in that game, who knows.
Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
I keep wondering if they would remake everything from scratch or if they would work from the 2015 material, only correcting some scenes, removing others and adding new ones. This makes me think about how the series' files are stored. Do they still have access to the episodes before the final video processing? If so, this would allow not only for minor adjustments, but also for the improvement of the sets and the overall visual compositing of the series.

I personally think Super would get a remake from the ground up (if they are indeed remaking a part of the franchise), but what you described is something they seemingly did with One Piece's Fishmen arc.taikufuru wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 10:57 pm I keep wondering if they would remake everything from scratch or if they would work from the 2015 material, only correcting some scenes, removing others and adding new ones. They don't typically keeps the genga and douga, since much of the series is still hand drawn.taikufuru wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 10:57 pm I keep wondering if they would remake everything from scratch or if they would work from the 2015 material, only correcting some scenes, removing others and adding new ones. If they went the Gundam compilation film route, they would just reuse as much animation as possible, save for ordering brand new shots where the director felt were absolutely necessary. The first two Gundam compilation films barely had any new cuts, but the third film had a ton more new shots because of the success of the first two films.
Anyhoo, I actually doubt the production committee would go that route, given the negative fan reaction to how the television series looked and because there's been so much positive buzz around 2020s anime series going all-out with their animation. I suspect that they would just order new animation from scratch.

They've announced this was going to be livestreamed in both JPN and EN on the Toei YT channel...

Which makes me wonder about the pre-production timeframe they would have to do this. I don't think they worked on it immediately after DAIMA. And there's still a second project to be announced, which would probably be a CG film?JulieYBM wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 11:08 pmThey don't typically keeps the genga and douga, since much of the series is still hand drawn.taikufuru wrote: Mon Dec 15, 2025 10:57 pm I keep wondering if they would remake everything from scratch or if they would work from the 2015 material, only correcting some scenes, removing others and adding new ones. It depends on when they want the project out. If they decide to repeat their mistake and approve production three months before they want to release the damn thing...well...lol.taikufuru wrote: Tue Dec 16, 2025 10:37 amWhich makes me wonder about the pre-production timeframe they would have to do this. Maybe we'll get lucky and they'll just wait until December 2026 to release whatever they're planning on release? lol
Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
With the exception of Dragon Ball Super itself, announcements related to the franchise usually happen between 8 and 12 months before the release date. That's a reasonable timeframe, considering they're working on it before the announcement.
What I think always made things difficult for Dragon Ball Super, even before any pre-production problems, is the fact that there are two arcs involving tournaments, consisting of non-stop action episodes. The second one, in particular, was extremely long and consisted of a battle royale. I remember the Herculean effort to keep the Tournament of Power from melting down, and that almost happened in the final stretch.
Even if the schedule is much better now, I don't think it will be something so simple to execute. And, honestly, I don't see this project having a creative initiative. It just seems like another stopgap and damage control measure for the 2015 series. It reminds me a bit of the idea of extended versions of films released on DVD.

Daima finished production sometime in 2024, well before it started airing, so they would have had enough time to take a long break before jumping into whatever it is they're working on. Let's say for argument's sake that Daima finished production in June 2024, and they started work on this January of this year, and that it'll air sometime in July of next year. That's a very good year and a half of pre-production.
Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
I doubt that whatever this project is is going to be a massive, sprawling, years-long project. Even Daima only wound up airing for five months, so I suspect that at most, they'll just do that again.taikufuru wrote: Tue Dec 16, 2025 11:05 am With the exception of Dragon Ball Super itself, announcements related to the franchise usually happen between 8 and 12 months before the release date. If this is indeed a Super remake, then I suspect they'll be able to bring down the original 131 episodes to 52-65.JulieYBM wrote: Tue Dec 16, 2025 11:25 amI doubt that whatever this project is is going to be a massive, sprawling, years-long project. That's interesting; I wasn't aware of this. I guess what was complete was the main parts of it, as it did go into production sometime in 2021...I think.

I doubt it's a 'Super remake' at all. If there were going to do one, they would just do films to avoid doing a long form series like that yet again. If they announce anything, it'll probably just be a new film with a new story. The Dark Knight wrote: Tue Dec 16, 2025 11:33 amIf this is indeed a Super remake, then I suspect they'll be able to bring down the original 131 episodes to 52-65.JulieYBM wrote: Tue Dec 16, 2025 11:25 amI doubt that whatever this project is is going to be a massive, sprawling, years-long project. Apparently, there have been leaks circulating on social media that appear to be Yamamuro’s work, possibly related to a Dragon Ball Super remake.
Honestly, I'm pretty skeptical about it. Whatever it is that is in works, I don't want Yamamuro anywhere near Dragon Ball. The man's talent has since long sailed and he doesn't need to be there. I don't even like his work on Daima, due to the fact that he, after being demoted, hasn't learned his lesson on why nobody likes his drawings anymore. Same old traits that made his work very stiff.

I saw video from a youtuber named ToonRider, he makes videos about Dragon Ball news, he seems ok, dosent seem to make up BS like a lot of youtubers do, he said that the leaks depict the events of DBS, and that is possible not about a remake but part of a recap (maybe like the recap of the Majin Buu saga in Daima?).
Until I see the news from the official sources I wont belive anything a 100%, but maybe, just maybe will get something this time.

I highly doubt those are official images from the production, nor do I think that Yamamuro Tadayoshi would be asked back to be character designer of a new project.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote: Tue Dec 16, 2025 3:48 pm Apparently, there have been leaks circulating on social media that appear to be Yamamuro’s work, possibly related to a Dragon Ball Super remake.

A lot of people who've been working on Dragon Ball since 2013 shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near it, be it people on the production side or writing side. Ideally, it wouldn't have come back at all, but if it was going to, it should've had a completely different group of people working on it.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote: Tue Dec 16, 2025 3:48 pmI don't want Yamamuro anywhere near Dragon Ball. The writers and series directors aren't the problem. Plenty of skilled writers and series directors worked on the series, their hands were just tied by various factors. The Dark Knight wrote: Tue Dec 16, 2025 11:10 pmA lot of people who've been working on Dragon Ball since 2013 shouldn't have been allowed anywhere near it, be it people on the production side or writing side. Dragonball will probably gonthe way if one piece with seasons so what ever hypothetically series is being worked on it would be about a year to get animated for 13 episodes and then off for a year more than likely.
