Why doesn't Goku and Tenshinhan use Mafuba

They both learned the Mafuba but they never use it. In the Dragon Ball manga Tenshinhan trained to use Mafuba, but he couldn't use it in combat since he wasn't aware that the rice cooker was broken before his battle against Piccolo Daimao.

In DBS Goku trained to use the Mafuba, however in the anime Goku forgot the urn in the time machine so he never got to use it. In the manga of DBS he only used it against Zamasu but failed since Master Roshi gave him the wrong tag.

What is the point of learning and mastering a technique if they don't use it. In Tenshinhan case couldn't he use his Multi-Form Technique and then use Mafuba, so his main body doesn't get drained from using the technique.
