The ending of the Future Trunks saga was awesome. There's nothing to "fix". It was foreshadowed directly in the first episode, when Whis said Zeno is capable of erasing whole universes if he dislikes something.
And the Future Sword of Hope was an awesome send-off to Future Trunks. He finally had the power to defeat the villain himself, instead of having to rely on someone else to save him. Sure it requires some suspension of disbelief, but so does everything in fiction.

Akira Toriyama, DBS vol.4 joint interview with ToyotaroAt his core Zamasu is good like Shin, though I guess you could say he was so fastidious that it backfired. But you know, for this "Future Trunks Arc" you had to depict Zamasu and Trunks' inner conflict, right? If this was back when I was drawing the manga myself then I doubt if I could have done it. I mean, I'm not very good at depicting the characters' psychology on the page. So this all came together because now I only have to think up the story. [...] On my own, I doubt I would have been able to express Zamasu's fall to the dark side.
Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
I don't think it was meant to be edgy and just to show Zeno destroying the multiverse like they said earlier and sets up the next arc. It was an "expendable" multiverse because the arc resulted in a new identical timeline being created so that Trunks and Mai could go to in the end.JulieYBM wrote: Mon Jan 19, 2026 1:46 amThe Genki-dama sword is such a better ending for the arc. Trunks going to a timeline with a duplicate of himself is something I still can't get over.
I have no issues with how Zamasu was dealt with by Zeno. But it's such a bummer how Trunks's actual world is just gone with no hope of bringing it back and he has to settle with being Trunks number two in another world, that's just weird
Either keep him in the present (it wouldn't even create any plot holes since Future Trunks might just be doing his own thing in EoZ) or go the time patrol route, anything else would have been fine

I think the ending of the Future Trunks arc would be fine to me if Whis mentions Cell' timeline.
Whis could tell Trunks there is a timeline where he and Mai ate dead and thst timeline has no one to protect so he goes there instead and can reunite with his mother there.
That or a throwaway line about Time patrol.

For me the biggest problem is not the Zeno part, but the fact that none of the characters does something to bring Trunks timeline back, the people and the world Future Gohan died for, the one Trunks fight for most of his life is gone, is not even that the people is dead, they are erased from existence, and Trunks just goes to live on another timeline just like that?
If I was gonna fix it, I would make Trunks stay on the main temline and fight on the TOP, and when they win they can wish for every universe erased by the Zenos back, including the Trunks timeline.

Especially since the winner of the Tournament is Android 17, it would have been crazy good to see him make that wish choosing to include Trunks' timeline. Another missed opportunity

Also change the parts were Goku, 17 and 18 fight the U2 trios, with Trunks, 17 and 18, Trunks feeling wierd having to fight alongside the 2 androids that destroyed his life in order to recover his world, and in the end 17 wishes his world back.
I'm not a writer or anything like that, but I think that would have been much better than what we got.
Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
Yeah, the only thing to fix about the ending of Future Trunks saga is what to do with Trunks. There are three options (stay in the present, live in Cell's timeline or become Time Patroller), but they chose to go with a fourth and the worst one. That's just unacceptable. If the remake can fix that, then I see value in wasting time retelling it.

Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
I'll be honest, even in 2015 with the excitement of a brand new Dragon Ball series, I still couldn't bring myself to finish the BoG and F episodes.
I don't think any of the changes made in BoG's Super adaptation did anything but lessen the story. And basically every cut of animation in episode 24 would need to be redone from scratch. And I'll never understand why it added Ginyu and Gotenks into the arc only to remove them almost instantly (Tagoma was a good change, though).
If the series got the kai treatment and skipped the one-off material, Super would lose most of the fan favorite episodes from the first half.
Hopefully we'll be blessed with a Daima RPG or something, idk.

Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
Quality-wise how do you guys think the remake is going to look? I've seen a lot of people say it'll be as good as Daima and Broly were, but I genuinely can't picture that. IDK why and I definitely can't list a reason, but in my mind when I think of this remake, the only thing I see is that remastered Goku vs Frieza battle from RoF; technically better than Super, but definitely not as good as anything we got after it, so in addition to not getting any new content until the remake ends, we'd also be taking a step down.
On a side note, I also see a lot of people assume the remake is for the manga, but the reason why the remake rumor popped up in the first place was because of that genga, and the god ritual from it was different from the manga version. It was kind of different from the anime too, which makes me a bit hopeful that this isn't going to be a remaster, but I don't see the point in remaking Super if it isn't for the sake of the manga.

There's no proof that a remake is being made. If Toei Animation et al go the route of the Fish-Man Island re-edit, isuch a project would only just have a few small adjustments.IntangibleFancy wrote: Mon Jan 19, 2026 8:01 pm Quality-wise how do you guys think the remake is going to look? Re: Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri 2026 on january 25th will have Dragon Ball announcements
Since we're just days away from the announcements, I just want to reiterate my predictions. If we're still going by two anime/movie announcements, I'll say:
1. DRAGON BALL ANIME REMAKE or DRAGON BALL SUPER ANIME REMAKE - I'd prefer the former in many ways, but to be honest, I've warmed up to the idea of the latter. Dragon Ball and Z for the most part already have perfect anime adaptations (despite broadcast audio and other issues). But Super was a mess from the start. A remake of Super could fix the animation issues and maybe be more faithful to the manga while keeping the best parts of the anime. Another reason why I think the Super remake is more likely is because I think it will lead into the Moro and Granolah arcs. Also, with Toriyama no longer with us, I think remaking Super using many of his manga ideas that he gave to Toyotaro would be a good way to sell this new Super series as the DEFINITIVE DRAGON BALL SUPER. Like AKIRA TORIYAMA'S DRAGON BALL SUPER or something. You already know with Toriyama gone, they're going to try to milk everything he contributed to Dragon Ball before they reach the Black Freeza arc.
A remake accomplishes this, giving them the Battle of Gods, Resurrection F, Universe 6, Future Trunks, Tournament of Power, Broly, Moro, Granolah, Super Hero, and the eventual Black Freeza arcs before they have to come up with brand new Toriyama-less new material. And it's been almost 11 years since the original Super anime started and 8 years since it ended. I think that's enough time to remake it akin to what Hunter x Hunter got with the 2011 series. And with all the rumors, I'll just be safe and say a Super anime remake is likely. I mean, imagine Dragon Ball Super the way it should've been from the start back in 2015 when we all dreamed of a new DB series as kids. I even heard rumors this possible remake might have the old Z sound effects for fighting and transformations. That would be AWESOME and would honor Toriyama really well considering Super was his last HUGE contribution to Dragon Ball besides Daima.
And then maybe a new Dragon Ball movie? People keep saying a Daima movie, but I think that's just recency bias. To me, Daima was just a one-off project that Toriyama made before his passing. Nothing more, nothing less. I don't think we're ever revisiting that world, but I could be wrong.
2. DRAGON BALL XENOVERSE 3 - I don't really care for this because I was too old for Xenoverse when it came out, but I think Xenoverse is for modern DB fans what Budokai Tenkaichi/Sparking was for us older fans. Announcing a new Xenoverse game would definitely bring hype back to the fandom after an honestly lackluster Sparking Zero. Honestly, though, I'd prefer a Budokai 4 or Burst Limit 2. Maybe a game called Budokai Burst that acts as a sequel to both? I don't know, but I think after how well Sparking Zero (Tenkaichi 4), I think making Budokai 4 is a financially smart decision. My dream game would be a DRAGON BALL ONLINE REMAKE, though. Again, a project that Toriyama contributed a lot too, which gives it more value. Only thing going against that is that Xenoverse already checks off that box.
Well, that's it for my safe predictions based on rumors and what not. Hopefully, I'm somewhat wrong and we get even better announcements than what I could've predicted, but we'll see. All I know is, I just can't wait for Dragon Ball to make a big comeback in pop culture again. It's been a while and this drought period has reminded me of what it was like to be a fan back in the 2000s.

That's just it, though. Toriyama was trying so hard to do something unexpected (i.e. edgy and againstthe grain) that he did not create a good or satisfying ending.Skar wrote: Mon Jan 19, 2026 4:21 pmI don't think it was meant to be edgy and just to show Zeno destroying the multiverse like they said earlier and sets up the next arc. So, will this thread be retitled after the announcements to reflect said announcement? Kind of like how the Sparking Zero thread was just called "A new budokai tenkaichi game is coming" or something like that, and now is "Sparking Zero Official Thread" or whatever it's called?

I don't think a manga adaptation, if it exists, would approach the movie storylines the same way the manga did. In the manga, those arcs are either heavily truncated or skipped entirely; so any hypothetical manga-to-TV Super remake would have to take some liberties regardless for most of the movie content.IntangibleFancy wrote: Mon Jan 19, 2026 8:01 pm On a side note, I also see a lot of people assume the remake is for the manga, but the reason why the remake rumor popped up in the first place was because of that genga, and the god ritual from it was different from the manga version.

My prediction: it’s about DBS, but not a remake. It’s gonna be some shit like a blu-ray release, some DBS Dragon Box, bricks bullshit or something like that. Or the same thing, but for Daima.
Nothing fun coming our way, that's for sure.

A boxset release as the big announcement (with some pack-in figurine) would be funny.
The way everyone's been talking and the fact that they're making this a whole big event makes me think there's still something substantial on the way, even if it's something as blah (imo) as another cgi movie or just slapping the ToP filter on the rest of DBS and re-airing that the whole thing like that.

I don't think they would air the entire show as is, but rather cut it down like Kai.Chuquita wrote: Tue Jan 20, 2026 1:57 pm A boxset release as the big announcement (with some pack-in figurine) would be funny.
