(thank fuck. I can only imagine the unfortunate timeline where FUNi got it over 4Kids & that wasn't there to make sure FUNi could change anything in terms of the dialogue. 1 of the biggest strengths of the FUNi One Piece dub is how accurate it is to the original dialogue.

Yeah I imagine a Funimation dub of One Piece circa 2004 would have been approached the same way they did original Dragon Ball and Yuyu Hakusho faithful in its presentation but heavily reworked in its dialog to be “funnier” and appeal to a “broader audience” this was still the Barry Watson era of Funimation.

And, like someone else said, the Netflix series did a LOT to bring on new fans for the brand. It was talked about for a while after it came out because of how good it was. With the anime also being on Netflix, I assume a lot of people started watching the anime after they finished the live action series. 2020 also allowed more people to get into it, since a lot of people found themselves with a lot of free time on their hands due to COVID.
It took a bit of time because Toei & 4Kids fucked it up the first time, but the franchise is pretty big over here.

Yeah, anecdotal of course, a buddy of mine got into The One Piece anime because of the Netflix series. I have no idea how common that was but I don’t know how popular the live action series would have been if the anime series wasn’t already a popular IP.

I imagine it'd probably be closer to Fullmetal Alchemist since I assume it'd still have Mike McFarland in charge, but they'd have no reasons to not take stupid liberties with the scripts here & there. Basically how they dubbed the later DBZ movies. I've seen clips of when they initially dubbed the episodes from after 4Kids stopped before they went back to the beginning after Toonami dropped the show & also redubbed those episodes with more accurate dialogue. Maybe more like that too.

The One Piece live action series was the talk of the town when it came out, so I imagine it was pretty common for people to jump on board when that happened.

According to Ajay, the Resurrection F arc will be getting the same remaster treatment and both arcs will last 6 episodes

Would there be a point in a redub? I feel like the only reason Kai was redubbed in Japan is because Toei wanted it in stereo and that wasn’t an option with Z. Seems totally unnecessary for Super Kai.

It's looking really good. Sure, it has that "plastic" style that's not so classic, but I think the effects and movement are much better. I loved the Super Saiyan God scenes.

Yes, all the arcs will be part of this new Super project. I also agree that it's great to see everything being streamlined, as the idea of jumping from movies, to the show, to the manga, to movies again is just backwards. We'll finally be able to experience the entire story from start to finish (whenever that is) in one consistent version.

I mean, it'd still give them justification to do a TV version because if they didn't, it'd be like when the BOG & RF arcs of Super came out. Why watch the show version of it's just the film with nothing substantial added? At this it'd also give us shit actually written by Toriyama too.

I highly doubt any of this would be happening if the manga wasn't coming back. There is a manga panel later today, so maybe it'll be announced then. Personally, I think it's more likely to get announced in December at Jump Festa.
