That's not true; this is clearly done for artistic integrity because Toriyama's vision...a new Ssjg Goku figure is on sale, let me go pre-order it then get back to you.

Haha, can't argue with that. Regardless, this night was basically the phrase "Good things come to those who wait". I'm satisfied. I was actually accepting of the Super remake (or remaster now) so I don't mind it. As for the Galactic Patrol arc, it's about damn time. Nice to see Dragon Ball is back and about to enter a new era. I feel like this the third era, right? There was 1984-1995/1986-1997 (manga/anime) as the first era. 2013-2025 was maybe the second from Battle of Gods to Daima (which the 40th video kind of acknowledges).

And now, the third era starts this year with Dragon Ball Super: Beerus and will continue all the way through The Galactic Patrol. The only thing we don't know is how long this era will last. Probably as long as Iyoku handles the franchise? You know what, who cares? Dragon Ball is finally back, that's all I care about.

With them basically hitting the reset button on Super, and seemingly no updates regarding the future of the Super manga, it does feel this rebranding is being done to reposition the anime material as the main headliner for Dragon Ball content, with the manga being placed on the back burner until they've adapted all the material from Toyotaro's storylines in the manga and the anime starts creating original content that Toyotaro will adapt as promotional manga material again like when Super originally debuted back in 2015.

I'm not expecting any major story changes to the recut arcs. I don't see how they could do much more than pare down on the 2015 anime content. Following the manga or unused Toriyama notes would require far wider-reaching deviations.

It'll be interesting to see if they bother worrying about alignment with the Moro arc at all, though I doubt they will. I'm expecting they'll just adapt the manga as is for Moro and not worry about getting into any nitpicky deviations like the different visual portrayals for SSBE, the absence of SSB Kaioken, or the different emotional triggers for UI. Broly and Super Hero already set enough of a precedent for playing things fast and loose between animated projects, to say nothing of Daima. It'll fit together well enough if you squint.

Doing a refresher on prior Super arcs makes sense. While I would have preferred a manga adaptation, at least this has a chance of offering something more watchable for Super in an animated format.

I'm very curious to see how they'll try to tighten up the structural mess that is the 2015 anime's ToP.

We have the Moro and Granola arcs, as well as whatever's going on with Black Freeza. We also have the Superhero arc that could get re-animated alongside the prequel chapters and the epilogue chapter. We have a lot to look forward to.

Toyotaro will be on stage later today, so we might get an announcement regarding the manga's return.

This makes sense. And honestly, this is the way it should be. When it comes to Dragon Ball, it's like the last shonen series where internationally, the anime is more mainstream than the manga. I'm not saying I don't want Toyotaro to continue the manga, but the anime should always be the priority, in my opinion.

Also, I guess with the announcements made, Dragon Ball Super has officially replaced Dragon Ball Z as the premiere brand of the franchise (in my opinion). I've been saying this for a while, but some people disagreed and said "DBZ will never be replaced. The impact of it is bigger than Super even to this day" and all that. And I'm not arguing that, that's true. But for all these years, people have been asking WHEN IS SUPER COMING BACK, not WHEN IS Z COMING BACK.

I even noticed there were younger fans reacting to this event who said they GREW UP with Super. And with Super's remaster essentially being a Super Kai (which even Ajay said is what Toei called it internally), that even more puts it in line with Z, which also has a Kai. Because OG Dragon Ball and GT never got Kai editions, obviously. We all know Daima isn't because it's only 20 episodes unless they cut it into a movie, which would be pointless. So yeah, in my opinion, Dragon Ball Super is now the main franchise of Dragon Ball. Z had a nice run, but that was the '90s and 2000s (outside Japan) and Super is now.

The fact that we're at least getting Moro down the line softens the blow of the Super remake/remaster announcement. Good strategy on their part to lead with the more exciting announcement first. I can live with Super being remade to lead up to the new content, but I still ideally wish they would not have gone this route.

Specifically regarding just the first "Beerus" arc, my biggest problem with BoG getting remade AGAIN is that this just isn't a story that is worth 4 retellings. It's not some complicated or particularly well written classic tale that warrants this much attention and re-examination. It's a nice little story that should have stayed as a 2013 anime film that came out to kickstart the new age of Dragon Ball and set up the new framework of the world going forward, but for some reason I'm now going to be watching Goku fight the purple talking cat on King Kai's planet yet again more than a decade later. There's just absolutely no reason we should still be dwelling on this story 13 years later after it's original release. And the same can be said for most of Super. I find it to be such a waste fundamentally to be dumping a bunch of time and resources into "enhancing" a story this worthless and mostly forgettable. It frankly just doesn't deserve it in my opinion. A polished turd is still a turd at the end of the day. Super at this point should've been what GT became in most people's minds: a poorly executed TV show from decades past that came and went and never lived up to expectations that we all collectively then moved on from. I'm sick of thinking about this empty mishap of a show 11 years later and counting.

It's not like the series is being remade from scratch. It's basically just like the Gundam compilation films, with a few new shots but retelling the series primarily using older assets. It's meant to be inoffensive—which is saying something, given how the other tellings of this story are also meant to be inoffensive.

Yeah, it's just meant to be a better onroading to new material than the existing Super anime.

Which, fair enough. This should be a much easier (in terms of both quality and time) watch for anyone getting into things in 2025.

I get it, and the fact that it's not a full blown remake but instead seems to just be closer to a "remaster" definitely helps. I'm not mad at this announcement, like I said I can certainly live with it. I just find it to be wasteful and pointless. And it seems they are doing some full blown new animation cuts, it's not all just touch ups of old footage. Several talented animators are on this apparently as well, so I don't know. Having someone as talented as Takahashi spending his time re-animating Dragon Ball Super of all things seems like such a waste to me.

There are definitely a ton of episodes from Super that would benefit from getting another round of redrawn art. Super only had 2 episodes to my knowledge that received fixes for the Blu-ray, and even those looked below standard.

Since the ToP arc in general was better animated with less janky art, I really hope they fix the awful CG aura effects used for UI Goku and Extra Blue Vegeta. Some of the later fights had animation that was nearly obscured by the overdone effects. Wouldn't complain if the awful green sky was redone during the 2nd half of that arc as well.

That being said, this entire project could be pointless if the editing is sloppy. The early episodes of DB Kai and that Fishman Island rebroadcast for One Piece felt like bad fan edits at times.

I mean, the purpose is so that general audiences will have an easier time catching up and leading into Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol arc. I wouldn't be doing this project this way, but it's at least got a purpose in mind. My hope is that good animators being brought on will just do some new battle scenes so that the fights look good, at least.

Fair points, but I also think they're remastering Super to reintroduce it to a new generation of fans. Super is pretty old now, believe it or not and the animation doesn't really hold up by 2026 standards. So, if they want new fans to watch The Galactic Patrol arc and beyond, they kind of need to catch everyone up. What better way to do that than to make a Super Kai? Funny enough, the original Kai worked the same way. Sort of. Kai (or more specifically Kai 2.0) eventually led into Super airing the week after. I think Super Kai will obviously from the announcements, lead into the Super 2.0.

And again, I think this might come down to a lot of different factors. Not wanting to catch up to the manga too fast is one popular theory. Then, there's the possibility Toei/Iyoku really just want to fix Super and do right by it this time (especially because Toriyama complained about the 2015 animation). And from what I've gathered, Iyoku seems like he really wants to make Dragon Ball into a much bigger property. Like Marvel level. Remastering Super and funneling new fans into the fandom to join the older fans for Galactic Patrol seems like the perfect way of accomplishing that. It's just business at the end of the day.

I know people are gonna' complain, which I knew would happen if the Super remake (now remaster) was confirmed. But hey, I'm just grateful. It's more Dragon Ball and we know we're getting the Galactic Patrol arc and most likely the Granolah and Black Freeza arcs afterward. Also, I think the format of this new Super series is training fans to get used to Dragon Ball's seasonal future.

I agree with pretty much everything you're saying in an objective sense. I was just mostly coming at it from my own personal reaction of being in the fandom for years and wanting desperately to move on from what I see as a borderline disaster of a show. Call me dramatic, but instead of dwelling on the Super era and bending over backwards to pull new fans into the Super storyline, I would rather them do the opposite, which is ignore Super and pretend it basically doesn't exist, and start fresh from ground zero moving forward. Kinda like what they did with Daima (even though I didn't end up liking that show either). I know this is unrealistic, but a man can dream.

When Moro was announced, do you think there was somebody in the crowd that was yelling:
"This isn't Daima S2! Nobody asked for this, we just wanted Gomah!"

I also just love that they're giving Super the remaster treatment for its animation. It looks closer to Daima's artstyle, which would make sense if they put the same people who animated Daima on this, which it looks like they did.

Also, with the person who said that they apparently rerecorded some of the lines, I imagine they would just have them redub the scenes altogether rather than reuse the original takes. Same with the international dubs. Yeah, it'd probably be quicker & cheaper to just reuse the older audio, but it'd make more sense for consistency, at least to me.

I also wonder where these will air? Maybe another deal with Netflix like Daima? Hopefully if they do, they'll have the English dub available day & day with the Japanese audio to fix that weird mistake Daima made. That's still really weird that they had a good portion of the dub audio ready to go, but the release was delayed for no reason.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.
