From the footage, it seems they're literally just taking the anime version and applying some filters over it. I saw a few redraws and some new shots but this is gonna look super jarring.
They're also removing the filler, at least as we can guess looking at an arc that originally lasted 10+ episodes now being 6.
That was always the main perk of a remake - cutting down all the useless filler.
Bye bye PILAF.
I'm not against the idea, I'm just afraid it's gonna look weird since it's just reusing old Yamamuro-era animation and applying a filter and some effects over it. The designs still look bad.
I'll watch it but the film is still the best piece of modern DB material to this day, the anime just added unnecessary fluff. RF is the one that needed fixing in both versions and in fairness the anime did fix some script issues, so if the remaster has improved animation, that one should be a net positive.

Literally just replacing the fights will help a lot. Not just doing a proper script-up rewrite or a full-on, actually re-animated series with new key animation based on new, non-Yamamuro character designs goes to show that the people leading this project do not actually understand what the problems are with the 2015 animated series and thus things do not bode well for the finished project.

Was expecting a movie for the second announcement. Don't really see the need for a FOURTH version of Battle of Gods, but like with anything Dragon Ball I'm open minded. Just hope the new pieces of animation will blend well with the old and not look jarring.

What's the point of this? There's already a movie and a series.
Mentioning Toriyama rubs me the wrong way. You already adapted this several times, if you wanted to be more faithful you had plenty of chances.
Sounds dishonest to the fans and disrespectful to Toriyama.
We'll be 20 years into the future and they'll still throw his name around for everything...

Putting this on TV will make it easier for general audiences to be reminded of what Dragon Ball Super is in time for the Moro arc to premier. It's a refresher for families.

Finally something new (or not, I guess…)! At least, I hope it addresses Daima in some way to make it feel like a proper continuation of Toriyama’s vision. It will definitely be interesting to see discussions of the silly little things that will be different.

This provides them with the opportunity to set a solid foundation to build new stories off of, rather than the shit show that was Super 1.0.

They said they've been working on this project for years, so I highly doubt it's just the movies' stories, which will only be 6 episodes each. The official word is that all this is a new era of Super, so the chances of them continuing past RF are very high. If they cut down all the arcs in half, that would perfectly lead into the Moro arc.
One would naturally assume as much, but there's been zero confirmation of that, and all the insider reports are saying this "remaster" was intended for the Beerus and Golden Frieza TV arcs and that's it.
If that's true, this is about the most pointless project in Dragon Ball history. I've yet to hear a compelling reason for why anyone should care about this.

There's already talks online about the Champa arc getting the same treatment, which makes sense, as an entire project just dedicated to the movies is indeed pointless. Why would they spend years working on just 12 episodes ? This project will have been in-development for nearly 4 years by the time it comes out; there has to be more to it than that.

"We've been working on this for years" does not actually mean that work has been progressing. There is no way that any work has been regularly being done beyond planning meetings to see if they actually want to do a enhanced version or not. Production is clearly still in the early stages, given how the trailer looks.

They've "spent years" working on all kinds of projects. Time means nothing when you're multitasking Iyoku's bucket list, and Toei doesn't have unlimited staff and resources. I doubt they've even started production for the Golden Frieza stuff.
Yeah, I don't care about this at all.

Bye bye PILAF.
Pilaf is absolutely still gonna be there. They claim this is "more faithful to Toriyama's drafts". Pilaf's inclusion in Battle of Gods was a Toriyama idea, and his continued presence also has all the signs of being a Toriyama thing.
...I just pray that they
actually explain him this time around. The movie did it. The manga did it. The TV series basically treated him as if he was a new character whom we were just expected to care about for no reason.

Reworking only BoG and RoF would definitively feel pointless. But if leaker's statements are anything to go by, this originally being internally treated as "DBS Kai" implies the plan is to remaster later arcs as well. Obviously it's nothing official, and DB leakers certainly have weird track records. But it makes more sense than just doing the last 2 DBZ movies.
However I'm more interested in their others statements, such as the remaster including manga elements. For Battle of Gods hardly anything will change, but it gets trickier to reconcile the differences the more the series goes on. I do hope some of the stuff they said is true

I'm fine with Pilaf's presence, I don't really care about his character, but the 2015 anime had wayyyyyyyyyyyy too much filler with Pilaf. Wayyy too much.
It's been 11 years but I do believe the first like 4 or 5 episodes of the 2015 anime were filled with Pilaf scenes. All that fat can be trimmed.
At his core Zamasu is good like Shin, though I guess you could say he was so fastidious that it backfired. But you know, for this "Future Trunks Arc" you had to depict Zamasu and Trunks' inner conflict, right? If this was back when I was drawing the manga myself then I doubt if I could have done it. I mean, I'm not very good at depicting the characters' psychology on the page. So this all came together because now I only have to think up the story. [...] On my own, I doubt I would have been able to express Zamasu's fall to the dark side.

Back when it was rumors, I was wondering why they didn't just remake the original series (what is covered by the original manga) because that could potentially fit everything under <200 episodes while having modern animation to make it more accessible to a new audience. But seeing that it's a Super remaster, makes a lot more sense. Especially with the point that they're going to incorporate more of the DBS manga and Toriyama's draft.
The original Super was plagued by bad pacing (the only arc I thought was paced fine was the Champa arc) and bad production. If this can polish up Super's low points, then I would say this is a worthwhile project. If this actually goes up to ToP as the rumors suggest, then I'm very curious about how they make the pacing better there. ToP seems to be special because it's very easy to cut too much where you lose the spotlight for other universes (big selling point of the arc/DBS), like the DBS manga, or you have too much where the pacing drags like the anime.
This is more wishful thinking, because this is outside the scope of even the rumors iirc, would be adapting the Broly movie and potentially adding the scenes that Toriyama wrote but had to be cut to fit the movie-length. And keeping the cool Hit "filler". This is wishful thinking, but I'd love it if they could manage both. I don't really expect major story changes (like incorporating Daima stuff) so I'm not even counting on that lol.
Why I use "Geran" instead of "Jiren"

I'm hoping they expand upon the Broly movie to fit with Toriyama's original drafts.
There was a lot of content that got cut, Broly wouldn't have worked as a 3 hour movie but as a series? I think it'll work.

I expect the Broly arc will be nothing more than the movie cut up into 5 episode parts, with new animation made for the beginning and ending of each episode to help thing flow from one to the other.

There were so many cutaways to spectators commenting on what's going on and basically telling us what we're already seeing, so cutting that out alone will significantly reduce the episode count. I do however expect the focus will primarily be on U6 and U11, with everything else being significantly reduced.

To my knowledge, isn't there some clause regarding the films Toei co-produced with Fox (as in, Battle of Gods, Resurrection F, and Broly) where they aren't allowed to use any footage from those movies in the TV series? I thought that was why Super reused none of the footage from the first two revival movies despite its rushed production.
If that is the case, then Broly would have to be completely reanimated for the new remaster, which seems like an awful lot of work for a show which is supposed to just be a remaster (even with additional cuts and composting changes). I wonder what the plan for it is, then. Will Broly just not be included in Super: Beerus--like how the manga handled it? I guess we won't know for another year.

I did not know that, but if that is indeed the case and there isn't a time limit on it, then I expect Broly will just be left as a movie. They could just air it as a special event the week before Moro's first episode.
