Lack of Dragonball news

Post by Ultimate DBZ » Thu Apr 10, 2008 7:52 pm

Is it just me, or is there not as much exiting news as there used to be since March. I mean, news on the artist of the music guy unrealated to Dragonball, Akira Toryamma's birthday, Atari's Trade or something like that being blocked... Not as exiting news in the Dragonworld as there used to be. No to mention no REAL news at the official DBZ site since December. Does anyone else see Dragonball dieing, or is it just me?

A month of slow news means nothing. Look through the news/update archives for proof of this. If it was going to die, it would have died already.

The show's nearly twenty years old, and over ten years old in the States. I don't think it's a death knell for the series that a month goes by without major news. It's just...well, pretty old.

And in other news, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

It always seems to me like Dragonball is the show with the most news. Theres always new CD's or DVD's or games being announced. Not to mention the new movie. Do other old animes (or new animes) like Yu Yu Hakusho for example get as many updates?

2 Months. I agree with Kid Trunks. New Realeses, anew DVD, a new CD, TV arrangements, new dates or times for TV. I mean Dragonball Z was jsut cancelled off of TVv for good, and replaced w.samurai Jack. Blue Dragon replaced One Piece, not DBZ. A new toy maybe? Maybe some new screen shots, new schedules for dvds, new prices for merchandice, something interesing. Akira Toriamma's birthday, Youtube videos, comparing vioces, and concerts from the music aritst of DBZ playing at a concert is not very exiting! Especially sneakers in Japan. Maybe an arcade game is good news, but not if you can't play it here in USA!

You all have to realize, the franchise is over 20 years old.

Us fans are lucky we still get anything

Truthfully, as much as I would love a new Toriyama-directed, 2-D animated series or movie or tv special, I'm equally content to let dbz slide off into the "land of Classic Anime/Manga Series". (You know, where the older Gundam series, Sailor Moon, Ranma½, and Lupin the 3rd all hang out.)
On hiatus.

You have no idea how much I would like for there to be another movie or special. None of the movies fit into the story as it is, so why not make another one.

Because the last time Toei made more Dragonball stuff, they crapped out GT.

Good point, but if I remember correctly Toriyama wasn't heavily involved in GT, so it was doomed before it began. If Toriyama were to make something new, although he has said he won't, I would be all for it.

I agree with GT being doomed from the start due to Toryama not being very involved in it but I havn't heard anything saying that he won't be a part of the new Dragonball anime special coming out.

Anime News Network writes:

This year's 21st issue (released on April 21) of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine has announced that a "Jump Super Anime Tour" will visit 10 Japanese cities this fall with new anime specials for Dragon Ball and One Piece. The tour is the eighth project that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the magazine. The magazine also hints that at least one other title will also be animated.

This is pretty awesome news. We'll definitely be sending Julian to one of the events for first-hand reports. Lucky bastard...
So until we hear that he's leaving this all up to Toei there is still hope for more well made Dragonball.

We already know about the special, also this looks like a month old topic.

I know this is an old topic and that most everyone knows about it, I only brought it up because SSJ2bardock said that he didn't think that Toryama was making any new anime.
SSJ2bardock wrote:"If Toriyama were to make something new, although he has said he won't, I would be all for it."
I was simply telling him that there was a chance that Toryama was working on a new anime. And yes, I do know that it is old news because I had to go back to the April 20 news update to find this information for him. I'm sorry if it seemed like I was dredging up old new, I was merely trying to inform others of upcoming material.

Maybe it's time to extend into Toriyama's other projects, then. It's not as if we didn't go "this girl reminds me of Android 18..." while playing Blue Dragon.
