Is Yamcha a celebrity?
Is Yamcha a celebrity?
He was shown playing professional baseball in the TV version of the Saiyan Saga, and again in the Garlic Jr. arc. Super continued the trend. I wonder if he'd be recognisable to the average person in the Dragon World? It's a bit like Mr. Satan, but not to the same extent.

I feel he at least got more exposure due to this playing. That also makes him one of the smartest people in the crew. He's mega strong, use it in sports and make a ton of money.
Re: Is Yamcha a celebrity?
Yeah, I like the baseball episode serving as a conclusion to his character that he just moved onto other things. Atlhough I just started the ToP arc and it seems to have backtracked and have him still interested in fighting:

Re: Is Yamcha a celebrity?
Probably to the same extent as any Major League Baseball player? Baseball fans probably know who he is. People who watch baseball because they think he’s hot know who he is. Random person in South Metro who zero interest in sports probably doesn’t.
Re: Is Yamcha a celebrity?
If he is, then he probably is very critiziced and disliked. In that baseball episode, he joined the brawl and beat even his own teammates up. He must've been banned from the league for sure, and the media should've destroyed him.
Re: Is Yamcha a celebrity?
Well he's shown again in the same team in the Garlic Jr arc, so the must have been let back on.Koitsukai wrote: Sun Mar 22, 2026 11:34 am If he is, then he probably is very critiziced and disliked. Re: Is Yamcha a celebrity?
Going by the filler and what we got in Dragon Ball Super, Yamcha should be Babe RuthXJackie RobinsonXBarry BondsXDerrick JeterXOtani...and he should be the second most famous person in Dragon Ball behind Mr. Satan.
And since we're on the topic of sports, I like the idea of Trunks and Goten getting into sports in High-School; Gohan did it first with baseball, but if I'm not mistaken, baseball is the most popular sport in Japan, no? I'm surprised we haven't seen more of that kind of stuff - the amount of illegal boxing rings and sports gambling for money that could be taken advantage of would be extraordinary.

I've never lived in Japan but as far as I know baseball is the most popular sport there yeah.
You know, funny you mention Gohan playing baseball. He actually says in the episode he's never played baseball but I clearly remember him playing it in Z.

Those are just amongst the few little things that I really do not like - minor inconsistencies. I imagine, decades down the line, a total revamp of Dragon Ball will get done keeping the inconsistencies away and tying things up - maybe.Kid Buu wrote: Sun Mar 22, 2026 1:53 pm I've never lived in Japan but as far as I know baseball is the most popular sport there yeah.

But Yamcha being a celebrity would be cool and I can imagine it as something that'd stick in the original manga...and it'd help explain why he had been "Cheating" on Bulma.
Re: Is Yamcha a celebrity?
That reincarnation manga had Yamcha meet a female, I like to imagine that is the lady he "cheated" on Bulma with.Yasai9001 wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 11:21 amThose are just amongst the few little things that I really do not like - minor inconsistencies. I think he did so with many women over the years. Remember, he even had a fan club...Kid Buu wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 3:58 pmThat reincarnation manga had Yamcha meet a female, I like to imagine that is the lady he "cheated" on Bulma with.

Is this in the sub? I remember girls crowding around and reacting to Yamcha during the 22nd Budokai, but I don't remember a fan club.BernardoCairo wrote: Mon Mar 23, 2026 5:31 pmI think he did so with many women over the years. Re: Is Yamcha a celebrity?
Perhaps this is only shown in the anime. I watched it last year, so it's fresh in my memory. Bulma's mother mentions a Yamcha fan club, and we see some girls outside Capsule Corporation waiting for him. At first, I thought this happened during the 21st Tenkaichi Budokai, but now that I think about it, it probably occurred during the Red Ribbon Army arc (since Bulma's mother is present). I think this is shown as the reason Bulma is angry with Yamcha when Goku comes to visit her.
But I could swear it was also mentioned in the manga. Maybe I'm just confusing things there.
