Goku's Premonition

In DB, after Tien wins the World Tournament, Krillin goes to get the power poll and Goku starts acting really weird. It's almost as if he knows it's the last time he will ever see Krillin. It was one of my favorite scenes in the DB anime. Its almost chilling how you can tell something is wrong and it really was a turning point in the entire franchise. So how did Goku know that Krillin was killed? Was it just because Goku is Goku and it was his best friend? Could it have been ki sensing? The first time any character mentions being able to sense ki is when Goku drinks the sacred water (the real one, not the fake one) he says he can sense King Piccolo's energy. But even if he did sense Krillin's ki disappear, he still knew something was up as Krillin was running back to the tournament. I guess he could have sensed a dark power there which would have explained his reaction. Maybe that was really when Goku started sensing ki even if he didn't realize it.

Well, premonition most likely. You know when someone's looking at you then you turn around and see them for no reason, or when someone thinks about you, then you think about him? Like that. ^-^

yeah it could be chalked up to that, but goku is sitting there at the dinner table he actually sees an image of glass breaking and krillin falling to the ground, and he can hear krillin screaming in his head.

It's not in the manga, so it was probably just added in to slow down the story.

I don't think Goku had a premonition, did he? More like he had a really bad feeling that something bad was going to happen. And I've heard of people saying they've had that feeling before something awful happens.

Well since it was just filler I don't see any point in trying to explain it, and I don't really care if it makes sense, but hey, why not!

Goku had a bad feeling from the start and that could be considered a premonition, and yes he probably could sense some form of evil ki. I know that ki sensing was never before mentioned in the series, but Goku had never before encountered a being that had so much pure evil ki.

When Kuririn died Goku might have known through some sort of mental bond that he and Kuririn had developed, or it might have been due to the sudden disappearance of Kurirn’s ki. Either way, Goku was obviously made aware of Kuririns danger/death only at that moment, so it must have been a connection only for a second.

Well since it was just filler I don't see any point in trying to explain it, and I don't really care if it makes sense, but hey, why not!

Yeah. But its well made filler, so its worth a little thought.

Well Bardock was a special case, he was cursed somehow with the power of the species he had killed off. But ya i would say it was some kind of vision (it clearly shows goku visualizing the attack before he runs out of the restaurant, unless thats just how he experiences ki sensing) After he learns to sense ki he always knows when someone dies, so the only other instance in which he could have had a premonition was when Roshi and Chaiozu died, but the premonition didn't come back.

Videl kinda did the same thing later on only in reverse. She somehow knew gohan was still alive when even Goku assumed him to be dead.
Kinda off topic but sometimes it doesn't seem like Goku cares that much about his son, like in the Slug Movie Gohan says "I love you dad" and goku just says "Yeah, I know"
