Were people making fun of Yamcha's death back then as well?
I found this propaganda poster from 2000's https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https% ... xxgzg1.png (Potential NSFW) and "Palestinians" got famous Yamcha death pose. And i've been wondering, people on internet made fun of Yamcha's death to Saibaman at least at early 2000's , with result even Japan join it (Figure, that Super baseball episode) did it happen in early 90's as well, when Dragon Ball aired in Japan and in Europe? Or only after DBZ got popular in USA?

Re: Were people making fun of Yamcha's death back then as well?
Hmmm... I personally don't think so. Honestly, is Yamcha's death pose really that unique? It's a genuine question I have because I particularly really don't see the meme as something that created the image of this pose where people associate to someone who's dead. I can very well see a image like this in the early 2000s resembling it by coincidence because it's a artist trying to make two dead bodies look minimally different from each other. If it was only the body with "Palestinians" written, maybe... or the artist traced over Yamcha as a basis without the intention of referencing lol, who knows.

Yamcha's position is just a fetal position. Nothing "special" about it.

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuh... This is a boomer comic I doubt this was done by a DBZ fan. I dont even see the resemblance, its similar but this is NOT referencing Yamcha. Not every dead body is a DBZ reference.coola wrote: Sat May 09, 2026 9:10 am I found this propaganda poster from 2000's https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https% ... xxgzg1.png (Potential NSFW) and "Palestinians" got famous Yamcha death pose. I find the whole Yamcha death joke thing weird. I get TFS made it what it is today but it was a big deal and 100% taken seriously in the original context. It's a joke thats gone too far tho.
Re: Were people making fun of Yamcha's death back then as well?
You had Budokai 3 in 2004 where self destructing as a Saibaman instantly killed Yamcha even in VS mode
Re: Were people making fun of Yamcha's death back then as well?
I'm pretty curious, if it was TFS "fault"? Yes, anime and manga did start making fun of it few years ago after that TFS episode aired https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https% ... jknc1.jpeg But i feel like main culprit was Toei themselves, when they made that Super baseball episode, and greenlit that morbid figure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sBOdlMv7BAeledoremassis02 wrote: Mon May 11, 2026 10:05 pm I find the whole Yamcha death joke thing weird. I agree with coola, that joke predate TFS. I dont love them but not every dbz fandom joke can be blamed on them.
Re: Were people making fun of Yamcha's death back then as well?
I'm not sure if Toei themselves have watched TFS, but it sure feels like they do.
There is a scene in Super where Popo warns Vegeta to not break the Room of Space and Time, with his eyes scarily covering the screen, much like TFS loves to do.

I remember reading about closed forum Super writers had, series already felt like Safe rather than Super so wouldn't be surprised if one of them was TFS fan?Kenji wrote: Tue May 12, 2026 7:32 pmNot making it up:Yellow Flower King wrote: Tue May 12, 2026 7:22 pmOh God please no.Kenji wrote: Tue May 12, 2026 7:07 pm I'm not sure if Toei themselves have watched TFS, but it sure feels like they do.

Re: Were people making fun of Yamcha's death back then as well?
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/yamchas-death-pose
Yamcha's death pose and the tag "ヤムチャしやがって…" ("you were Yamcha") first emerged in early 2009 as a derivative of the colloquial expression "無茶しやがって…" ("you were reckless") which has been used on Nico Nico Douga[1] when referring to someone who's made an attempt at something absurd or impossible. Such association of Yamcha and FAIL was established most likely due to the character's feeble strength in comparison to other Saiyan-blooded characters including his friends Goku and his son Gohan.
The exploitable image quickly spawned a large volume of parody fanart and illustrations on the Japanese illustrators' community Pixiv[2], which were soon picked up by a number of Yahoo Blogs. The drawing meme eventually made its way into the English web in 2010, as seen on imageboard hubsites and anime-related forums like Danbooru[3]. The meme was also documented by TVTropes Wiki[4] in the "Ascended Meme" article.
Yamcha's death pose was further reiterated in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi[5], wherein Saibaiman's attack makes its enemy fall to the ground in the identical pose, and in Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans[6] where Yamcha falls defeated in the same pose.

I was literally going insane, I honestly dont know why people think TFS can be credited with every single DBZ meme.

There are "fans", specifically American "fans", who've only watched TFS and will go as far as to claim it's better than the source material it's parodying.Yellow Flower King wrote: Wed May 13, 2026 7:13 pmI honestly dont know why people think TFS can be credited with every single DBZ meme.

Re: Were people making fun of Yamcha's death back then as well?
Yea, I'm not one of those. I found out about the Yamcha meme through TFS because I don't use Twitter and I never used Japanese social media. I actually found early TFS to be kind of boring cause they took direct lines and recontextualized them, or just took already known jokes of the show and used them.
I saw TFS make the joke and not long after I saw jokes and stuff being made so I made that conclusion, along with seeing other TFS related shirts out in the wild but I am glad to be proven wrong.
That said, I found the joke funny for maybe a year and it just got overplayed....to death
