Two questions I can't find real answers to
1. Is the Ultimate Uncut Dub episode 1-67 and Original Single Dub 68-291 the same as the '07 Remastered Dub? If not, What are the differences?
2. "Generally" the widescreen presentation of Kai 1.0 is consider okay because it was made with 16:9, Is TFC as good or is it considered worse?
Sorry if these are stupid questions, I couldn't find anything that wasn't Google AI.

1. I can't answer the dub question with 100% certainty, as I'm honestly not sure about it, but my limited understanding of it is that they're the same.AveryADiaz wrote: Fri May 15, 2026 10:59 pm 1. 2. Kai 1.0 and TFC were cropped frame by frame, so although it's not the ideal way to watch it (4:3 is), Toei did a better job at preserving the overall image compared to Funimation's train wreck of a job.
Re: Two questions I can't find real answers to
No. Too many minutia differences to list but the remastered dub has newly recorded dialog to present consistency with the Ultimate Uncut dub (in theory anyways) actors are replaced with their UUE replacements (example Laura Bailey redubs all of Ceyli Delgadillo’s season 3 dialog as Dende since she voiced him in the UUE dub) and and other actors redub their own dialog to sound more like their later performances namely Chris Sabat redubs his work as Vegeta for the Ginyu, Frieza, and Garlic Jr saga to erase his original Temu Brian Drummond take and more how he sounded in the UUE dub. Not all the actors redubbed their dialogue and by the Trunks saga it pretty much stops entirely. Redubbed dialogue is also mostly the same but some slight changes here and there.AveryADiaz wrote: Fri May 15, 2026 10:59 pm 1. There’s also dialog that was clearly recorded for the 1999-2003 dub and removed but found its way back into the remastered dub and also some different music placements in the American score. All but confirmed to be due to Funimation using a rough draft version of the dub as a basis for the remastered version instead of the finalized Singles DVD version
The first 67 episodes are like 99 percent the same as the remastered version but Chris Sabat redubs Vic Mignogna’s performance as Burter for some reason (either because Mignogna was too busy to replace Mark Britten’s dialog for the Ginyu saga or because Sabat had voiced him in the Budokai games and they wanted synergy with that)
TFC is considered worse because it has a green tint and only available in wide screen. Kai 1.0 is only widescreen for broadcast but in it’s intended 4:3 aspect ratio for home video which is why it’s generally given a pass.2. "Generally" the widescreen presentation of Kai 1.0 is consider okay because it was made with 16:9, Is TFC as good or is it considered worse?

Re: Two questions I can't find real answers to
I guess I should have phrased my second question better. It was specifically about the quality of the cropping, People "like" the cropping on Kai 1.0 but never talk about TFC. Is TFC the same quality of cropping as Kai 1.0 or more like the FUNimation Orange Bricks/BD Seasons?
Re: Two questions I can't find real answers to
I might be wrong, but, one of reasons probably, is that TFC wasn't as popular as Kai 1.0, so you heard less complainsAveryADiaz wrote: Sat May 16, 2026 9:14 am I guess I should have phrased my second question better. And it was even released in Japan just to compensate for Toriko terrible merch sales, resulting in rushed and messy TFC...

Re: Two questions I can't find real answers to
In Latin America, TFC was way more popular than the first half of Kai.
Re: Two questions I can't find real answers to
I coulda sworn people didn’t like Kai 1.0 widescreen presentation it was just forgiven because it was the correct aspect ratio on home video and not a simple drop and crop like the Orange Bricks
When TFC only has availability in widescreen plus an ugly green tint to boot more people are gonna complain

Remember, that whole debacle with the DBZ cast not returning ruined Kai in Latin America. It wasnt until TFC they returned.

Re: Two questions I can't find real answers to
I found I have two more questions that I can get real answers for.
1. It's stated Meredith McCoy didn't return for Kai because she was in Israel, Why was she in Israel? Did she just happen to move there semi permanent? Was it a religious thing? Was she even in Israel to begin with?
2. In Dragon Ball, Kid Goku is shown with a yellow Kame Sennin badge on his Orange Gi. In Dragon Ball Z, the badge is white. Is it a coloring mistake or was it originally intended to be yellow?

I'm sorry. I didn't mean it any sort of way. I just found it strange that that's a commonly stated thing that has no easily accessible citation that indicates she was even there and wanted to know if there was more information.Yellow Flower King wrote: Tue May 19, 2026 12:49 pmThis isnt TMZ, we dont have gossip so you can know where any va's are or why they are there.AveryADiaz wrote: Tue May 19, 2026 12:24 pm I found I have two more questions that I can get real answers for.

Finally, somebody (briefly) explained what the hell the difference is between the "Ultimate Uncut Dub" and the Revised/Remastered dub. I always heard people wanting the UUC Dub and I'm like... "Why? We have the Revised/Remastered Dub that you find on all modern DBZ releases." But context helps.
Also got a source for that "They used a early draft" for the Revised/Remastered dub?

Going by her Wikipedia page, Meredith Mauldin (stage name Meredith McCoy) is married to Michael Mauldin, who ran as a Republican for the Texas Senate in 2005. Michael Mauldin is (was?) also an executive director for UpperRoom, a worship ministry. McCoy has been on a few of UpperRoom's albumns and also previously performed with The Glory of Zion International Worship Team.AveryADiaz wrote: Tue May 19, 2026 12:24 pm I found I have two more questions that I can get real answers for.

Which is also to say, if I had to hazard a guess: she was in Israel doing music stuff.

Re: Two questions I can't find real answers to
IIRC, the widescreen version of 'Kai 1.0' apparently remade some shots with the composition changed purely because the original couldn't be cropped effectively (and in these cases the original film material is used in the 4:3 version). I don't think that TFC had any new in-episode animation, so cropping would have been their only option.AveryADiaz wrote: Fri May 15, 2026 10:59 pm "Generally" the widescreen presentation of Kai 1.0 is consider okay because it was made with 16:9, Is TFC as good or is it considered worse?
Also, regarding the Funimation sets, the Orange Brick DVDs were simply centre-cropped but the later Blu-rays were actually 'tilt and scanned' (i.e. manually reframed). The latter option is better, but obviously doesn't fully solve the problems inherent to cropping (and causes other issues like the picture visibly tilting during a crossfade).
Re: Two questions I can't find real answers to
*Scott Morgan (or one of the CakeMix Studios guys believe it was him though) confirmed at least one instance of a different music track in the Orange Bricks was the original track composed for the scene before Funimation changed it for tv/original DVD release. Goku’s Android dream specifically iircGTx10 wrote: Thu May 21, 2026 1:10 pm .

Multiple fans on here have stated that the music tracks used in the Remastered release matches the YTV airings as apparently Ocean received an early version of the Funi dub to distribute and make additional edits before doing their own dub with Funimation’s scripts.
A lot of lines that weren’t in the original Funimation version that made its way to the remastered dub were in the Westwood version like Goku’s speech about Kid Buu when he’s being destroyed. We know Schemmel didn’t redub anything so that was obviously recorded back in 2002.
