This is what I've been begging for since Xenoverse 1, and yet another thing Ultimate Tenkaichi did right (which is always praise fainter than Yamcha's love-life, because UT's original story was still so pisspoor that even a 10-year-old fanfic writer could come up with something better)Scsigs wrote: Mon May 18, 2026 8:15 pm If I'm gonna be honest, I would really just want XV3 to continue the type of storytelling they started with the XV2 Future Saga DLCs where they do some crazy shit that isn't just "correct the miniscule change in history to keep the timeline as it was." The base game stories in XV1 & 2 are really boring, ngl. And a lot of the early DLC stories are too, tbh, since they're just the same shit as the base games. Before the Fu storyline in 2, that's how they were. They have the opportunity to really play with the lore & universe of Dragon Ball to deliver a fun story & game & I hope they're doing just that.
You don't even need to abandon Raditz to Buu, because the what-if potential is already intrinsic: what if events played out differently, and you actually run with that? Not "villain character becomes goffik and stronger for 5 minutes," but I mean "imagine Raditz never came, and Piccolo remained the Big Bad for a whole arc?" or "imagine Raditz successfully took Gohan and now Gohan's being raised as a Saiyan in preparation for rebellion against Freeza, culminating in him becoming a rage-fueled Super Saiyan at some future point?" or "imagine Babidi comes to Earth instead of Raditz, and we get a demon fight on Earth instead of a Saiyan fight?" or "What if Dr. Gero accelerated his plans to unleash the artificial humans, so they weren't as strong, but Goku and friends are still outmatched? How do they get out of that one? What if the Saiyans still come, and arrive in the middle of this Human vs Artificial Human brawl? Which side teams up with which? Or is it a 3-for-all?" or even if you want to keep the sort of "you have to fight to stop history from changing too much," then how about "What if Goku did become God of Earth, and your job as Time Patrol is to defeat him so he returns to mortal life so when he dies against Raditz, the dragon balls aren't lost?" Just let us see the consequences of that for a stretch of time. Show us how we get there, what happens, and whatnot
Literally the very first opening beat of the Z story, and you can split it into different potential What Ifs, without even needing to create new characters or assets.
I wish they did more with that! If I were Fu, that's what I do. Not, "what if Frieza was 20% stronger, and then when a random donut-steel drops in to defeat him, no one comments on it and nothing in history changes"
