If they had never created Dragon Ball Z Kai do you think we would have some re-dubs of Dragon Ball Z now?

I think Funimation would re-dub Dragon Ball Z at some point in order to fix the bad writing but I wonder if other dubs like the French one for example would do something like this.

I really doubt it. Sabat has always stated that Kai was their one in a million chance to get things right.TheRed259 wrote: Tue Jun 23, 2026 8:10 am I think Funimation would re-dub Dragon Ball Z at some point in order to fix the bad writing
Well, for the other dubs, it would be possible but only if the masters had their audio damaged.but I wonder if other dubs like the French one for example would do something like this.
If I recall correctly, it happened in the Latin American dub of Dragon Ball Z. Some years ago, several lines of Garlick Jr. were found to be missing and his actor (Salvador Delgado) had to be called to dub them again.
A little too late but yeah, I've been officially active in Kanzenshuu for ten years

Don't think most dubbing studios would have bothered to be honest, like Denmark got a dub in 2002-2006 but then reran it in the early 2010s rather than doing a new dub.
I think it would have been interesting if territories like Croatia and Macedonia got redubs of Z like Serbia did since I believe the Loudworks dub was considered an improvement.
I wonder if TOEI would have given Super to Ocean instead of Bang Zoom in this alternate timeline, as they probably opted for the latter because the former never got their Kai dub out, but if Ocean never had the chance to dub Kai who knows what would have happened

Never knew this, but that's very interesting. Maybe we would have gotten more partial redubs in cases where the masters were missing or damaged?Tian wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 7:32 am If I recall correctly, it happened in the Latin American dub of Dragon Ball Z. Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

Yes, I knew that about the Latin American dub.Tian wrote: Wed Jun 24, 2026 7:32 am Well, for the other dubs, it would be possible but only if the masters had their audio damaged.

Re-dubs can also happen if for some reason they can't acquire the rights to an already existing dub.

I don't think anyone would have attempted to re-dub 291 episodes without knowing for sure whether it would be a success or not, it's too risky, especially in a decade like the 00s, when the industry still relied on TV ratings and home video sales.
At most, maybe a distributor would have tried doing it in batches to see if it was worth it
