Bulma’s Hair Color

Since WHEN though was it ever officially stated by Toriyama that Trunks’ hair was originally intended to be blue in Z anyway ???

In almost all the colored manga artwork Trunks hair is some shade of purple
It’s only on Volume 32 (Volume 16 in English) that it is a shade of blue and like 2 artworks that Toriyama was clearly just experimenting with the colors as we all know he’s infamous for

It wasn't meant to be blue in Z, it was quite obviously meant to be purple just like his mother, with only a few exceptions showing them as blue.

However, at some point, Toriyama stopped making Bulma's hair purple and - perhaps influenced when having to create artworks for select anime products and checking references - started to consistently make Bulma's hair blue, showing it was now how he considered the character to be in his mind, how he accepted that feature as part of the character.

when he started making Bulma's hair blue, with perhaps only one exception prior to Battle of Gods, he started to consistently make Trunks' hair blue as well: in his mind, the thing is simple, Trunks has Bulma's hair. When switching Bulma to blue consistently, he switched Trunks to blue consistently.

You don’t seem very good with identifying specific colors because there’s a difference between shades of turquoise and just “blue”
There are various shades of blue with green mixed in , yellow , white , etc .

Bulma has a light turquoise shade in the very first colored artwork of her first appearance in chapter 1
Then Toriyama was experimenting between said turquoise and various shades of purple throughout the run of the series all the way until the end of Z

Toei was obviously going by the very first hair colors that we see Bulma and Trunks introduced with going with various shades of turquoise for Bulma and lavender for Z Trunks then changing to a shade of medium lilac in GT

Anyway it wasn’t until the Super manga when Toriyama decided to change Bulma’s hair yet AGAIN just because he wanted to “update her look to be more modern” whatever that means

I think basically it just means that Toriyama just felt like experimenting with the colors again and Toei just went along with it for modern consistency for the Super era

They most likely wanted to officially separate and differentiate the DB/Z classic era with the modern Super era

I still consider it completely unnecessary though to change Trunks’ hair to match Bulma’s “modernized look”
It’s lazy character design imo and Toei kinda looking down on the fans as dumb thinking that it isn’t obvious enough that Bulma and Trunks are related or that fans wouldn’t be able to tell the 2 Trunks apart

I’m starting to think it’s Toei and not Toriyama is the reason why the colors are so inconsistent and confusing now in Super especially now that Toriyama is no longer living Toei now makes a lot of if not all the decisions with the Super anime nowadays

I think that's being a bit pedantic. Whether it's this or this, I think it's clear the color was blue, irrespective of the shade chosen at a given time.

I think that's being a bit pedantic. Whether it's this or this, I think it's clear the color was blue, irrespective of the shade chosen at a given time.

It matters to me as someone who is familiar with painting and blending paint colors together as I took a painting class in college
I’m no expert but I know the basics of color blending and various shades

Toriyama and Toei probably just saw colors in a general sense and not more specifically
It’s just a matter of preference for each person concerning the hair colors but fans like me who prefer the original shades tend to be more stubborn I guess

Also I admit that I do indeed have severe OCD when it comes to this kinda stuff I’m obsessed with hence why I made this thread in the first place
