Digitizing fansubs

Post by eledoremassis02 » Tue Aug 25, 2026 1:12 am

Been digitizing fansubs I've collected over the years as a way to slim down what I have. It's been pretty fun and got me back into trying to collect more fansubs if I come across them. Did Imperfect Cell and some of the films.

Has anyone else gotten into backing up some of their older VHS'?

Yes, it is.

Also, Vegeta shouldn't be throwing stones in glass houses lol

My favorite fansub line is in Movie 13, where they hilariously translated Vegeta calling out at Hildegarn with him flinging F-bombs even though that’s obviously not what he’s saying. Anime Labs just went ham on inserting cussing even though it’s clear most of those swear words simply don’t exist as equivalents in the Japanese language. They wanted to make it seem more hardcore and edgy than it actually was.

Another amusing aspect of how Anime Labs subbed things is the crazy messages they would put on the eye catches and OP/EDs, mostly consisting of calling out other fansub groups and individuals at the time.
DB collection related goals as of now:

1.) Find decent priced copy of Dragon Box Z Vol. 4 (Done)

2.) Collect rest of manga

3.) Get rest of Daizenshuu (2-7)

I remember in 2002 i've watched DBZ Movie 12 with Polish fansubs, they probably were Anime Labs translations and i was shocked when i watched later releases few years later, that Paikuhan didn't swear to destroy barrier :D
